She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 28
Ice Cream Day
“How did it go, your career counselling?”
“No problem at all, what about you?”
“No problem either.”
“Oh, by the way…”
“What?”
“In the worst case, they told me to be a fortune teller.”
“Ah…”
I understand what they meant by it. Kisaragi can read other people thoughts, so it would be beneficial for her to make them believe in divination. But I’m not sure it’s a good thing for a teacher to encourage his student to be a fortune teller.
“It seemed that your homeroom teacher is a big fan of your rumors.”
“It seems like it. It would be a lot more interesting if such a mysterious thing exists.”
“Don’t be amused by it…”
“It’s a lot better than being scared by it.”
“I guess so.”
I guess it doesn’t matter at all. It’s funny that I care so much about it.
Then I turned my attention to the ice cream fridge in front of me. I’m deciding which flavour to choose. Given the heat outside, I’d like something refreshing. I’ll go with soda sorbet. Since it is a cup, if it melts, I’ll just put it in the freezer and refreeze it. Kisaragi who is next to me seems to be having a hard time deciding.
“If they have tangerine flavour ice cream it would be an easy decision, but they don’t have it, I’m having a hard time deciding.”
“Tangerine?”
“I’m having a hard time deciding…”
She is saying the same dialogue again and again like an NPC. They don’t have tangerine flavour okay.
“Why don’t you just buy some tangerine jellies and eat them when you get home?”
“I mean, isn’t it kind of fancy to eat ice cream stick on the way home from school?”
“Nope, I don’t know anything about it.”
“Even I don’t have the courage to do it when I’m going home alone.”
She eventually doesn’t listen to what I said and buys a vanilla ice cream stick. As she walked out of the store, she instantly opened it and threw away the pack into the trash can outside. She took a mouthful of ice cream and she looked really satisfied.

The ice cream quickly melts in the direct sunlight. She makes a small gurgling sound as she chews it. Then on the stick, the word ‘Hazure’ is written on it. She threw away the stick and we continue to head home.
(Hazure or ハズレ means being left out or excluded from a group)
“How does it feel to do something you’ve always wanted to do?”
“Let’s do it again next time Hokuto-san.”
“Yeah sure, why not?”
“Yeah, sure.”
I still get goosebumps remembering the first time we met. Though it had only been a few months, that day the weather was really pleasant and mild.
But what about now? The sun shines brightly from above and the reflected heat from the concrete looms from below. The cicadas are singing from all direction. I can’t wait to go home and lie down under the air conditioner.
“Summer break is just around the corner.”
She mutters sullenly.
“Although it is a ‘break’, but there are very few days when I can actually take a break.”
“Just thinking about summer break is exciting, isn’t it?”
“Unfortunately, I don’t feel those genuine feelings anymore.”
“So, Hokuto-san, what are your plans for summer break, what are you doing to do?”
“Digesting my stack of games and books.”
The other thing left to do is to play with Mikinori. It is no different from a normal holiday.
“It’s summer break, let’s go to a festival or something.”
“I won’t go even if you invite me.”
“A-Are you sure?”
She looks upset, even though it was her who started it before. Does she feel like being rejected?
“Well, I don’t have a reason to say no.”
“Then how many days in advance should I contact you.”
“The day before or the day is fine.”
I don’t have any plans anyway.
“But I won’t go if I have a plan before.”
“Of course.”
While we’re talking about it, we arrive at my place.
“Okay then, see you tomorrow.”
She waves her hand.
“Yeah, see you tomorrow.”
I didn’t wave back to her, but I see her going off.
