She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 12
Incident Day
“Hokuto-san are you familiar with the ‘You Can Dash Incident’?”
You Can Dash. It’s the name of an ice cream brand sold in supermarkets, convenience stores, everywhere. Not many people would notice it. However, if it’s a name of an incident, it’s a whole different matter. I don’t recall seeing such an incident from the news, nor have I seen it in the newspapers. So, I shook my head.
“I don’t know.”
“I see. I knew you weren’t involved.”
Her face looks relieved. The word ‘you’ stuck in my head.
“Was it an incident I could have been involved in?”
“Yes, it happened in this school, it’s the name of an incident that happened in our school.”
“Did someone steal some ice cream or something like that?”
“No, there’s nothing to do with ice creams.”
“Then how could the incident come up with that name?”
“According to a story it was named that way because many of those who were involved in the incident ran away.”
“What story?”
“Probably an afterthought. There were fifty to fifty ratio of those who run away and those who don’t.”
“Well, that’s about it.”
“Well, I’ve heard about the whole story, but it’s getting a little too heavy for me to bear it alone. So, would you please listen to what I have to say?”
Her unusual serious expression took my breath away. I guess I am the only one who can be told of this kind of story. Maybe I wasn’t mistaken seeing her come to the library as if she was running away today. I made sure that I have a free time to hear her story, and I put a bookmark on a book I’m reading on. She seemed relieved, then she sighed deeply.
“I’m glad to hear that, my story is not something you can post on the internet, because no one will take it seriously.”
She seems really vulnerable.
“Yes. I’m used to the noises in my head, but I’m not used to what I hear just now.”
“Are you involved in this incident?”
“No, I don’t interact with people enough to get involved in this incident.”
“I understand. I know it’s hard, but let’s talk about the incident. Since it’s an incident, there are victims and culprits, right? “
” Yes. The victim is Yuhi Machii, and the culprits are Satsuki Takano, and many others.”
“Many others?”
“Again, this is what I’ve heard from a lot of people, and I’m speaking from my perspective. So, there may be some points that are not true.””
“I see. The culprit is not alone. I understand.”
I think I recalled hearing the names of Machii and Takano. I think I recently heard their names at some point. I thought about those names for a while and remembered.
“Ahh.”
“Do you remember something?”
“Those two just got together recently, didn’t they?”
Anyway, Takano fell in love with Machii at first sight. Thereafter, they confessed their feelings to each other at every opportunity, and eventually began dating.
“If you know about them, then we can talk about the incident easier.”
“Is this what they call a dating DV?”
(DV stands for domestic violence)
“Before that. For example, Hokuto-san If someone confessed to you that you didn’t think anything them, would you accept her?”
“Depends on the time and situation.”
It looked like she doesn’t agree with me. I thought it’s better just to answer honestly. She clears her throat and continues.
“Machii-san didn’t accept Takano-san’s confession.”
“I guess.”
“Machii-san’s tastes were the exact opposite of Takano-san’s.”
“That’s a disaster.”
“The disaster doesn’t end there. Takano-san is a representative of the so-called ‘good young man.’ There are probably more people who support him than people who avoid me.”
“What are you trying to say?”
“Because she refuses to accept his confession, he became hostile towards her.”
“I see. It’s like the same pattern as yours.”
“Yes. I don’t understand why they would do such thing, but there seems to be a certain number of people who do that.”
“So, she finally accepts his confession.”
“That’s right. Since they began dating, he often checks on her once in a while. He seems to became less hostile to her, but I’m sure she feels forced to be in that relationship.”
I have never seen her in such a sad face before. She must feel very distressed to see others suffer. She is a really kind person. She is too kind if I may say so.
“So why are you suffering so much?”
“I know what happened to her, I know that she is in pain, but there is nothing I can do for her.”
She can read the thoughts of people around her, regardless she wanted to or not. If she were to reach out Machii-san, Machii-san would wonder how could she know about her problem. Besides, it is none of her business.
“wouldn’t it be nice to not know?”
She laughed emphatically. I am sure she also felt guilty telling me about it. What a difficult person. All I could do was sympathize with her in my mind.
