The Beloved Apprentice Who Seeks Strength (2)
Carla’s POV
The plan that I came up with is…
“Today, we will be training Auxiliary magic.”
Specifically, I won’t teach him offensive magic anymore.
“Eh? Auxiliary magic? But why? All of the sudden…”
Ul-kun said so with a puzzled look on his face.
“W-Well…”
I hesitate.
I’m not sure what to say to my young and energetic apprentice who is eager to seek strength.
Surely, at this age, if I were to say the real reason, he might just rebel.
I was also like that when I was at his age.
“Well, you see…relying only on attack magic, well…it’s a bit, uh, unbalanced…magically speaking. It might feel, umm…not quite right, hahaha.”
I know that it might not sound very convincing.
After all, I’m recommending my apprentice to learn Auxiliary magic instead of offensive magic, knowing my apprentice’s desire for strength.
But even so, I think it should be fine.
Surely, someday, Ul-kun would understand.
(This is in order to get you out of the cycle of struggle…!)
Thus, we begin our training in Auxiliary magic.

That’s why, when I successfully taught Ul-kun Auxiliary magic and given him the necklace, I feel extremely satisfied.
Moreover, his [Disguise] magic earlier was splendid.
(What a perfect plan…!)
Ul-kun seemed genuinely interested in Auxiliary magic.
I’m sure once Ul-kun discovered the true joy of developing Auxiliary magic, he will lose interest in offensive magic.
I never thought I would get this excited just for something so trivial.
But—
“I never thought I’d end up going to the academy…”
I’m a free-spirited type of mage by nature, I don’t belong to any specific group nor spend time with others. I’m not the kind of mage who belongs to the academy.
All of this comes from my painful past…
Since I part ways with my respected older brother who sought strength and left, I’ve never opened my heart to anyone else.
I’ve visited several noble houses and worked as a private tutor.
However, not once did I refer to anyone as my ‘apprentice’.
Except for Ul-kun.
Yeah, Ul-kun reminds me of my brother in some ways.
He seeks strength relentlessly, without thinking of the consequences.
That’s probably why.
Then before I knew it, I can’t take my eyes off Ul-kun.
As I continue to interact with Ul-kun, I find myself wanting to join the academy.
I want to learn more about magic.
Ul-kun’s sincerity has melted my icy heart.
I’ve always kept people at a distance until now.
“Fufufu.”
I look up at the ceiling.
Since my older brother left me, I had never made another accessory.
Giving another handmade necklace to someone else and ultimately going to the academy—it’s something the old me would’ve never imagined.
However, Ul-kun…
No, I’m sure it should be fine. it seems that he has found Auxiliary magic enjoyable.
With this there is nothing to worry about.
I’m sure he won’t get involved in strange incidents or seek strength recklessly.
“Well then, I should get going now.”
I say so as I chuckle to myself
I start walking towards the royal capital, thinking about the best memories here—
Thinking about my beloved apprentice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three months has passed since I left the Randall territory…
I’m now staying in a boarding house in the royal capital.
For the past three months, everything went smoothly. It seems my reputation is well known even in the royal capital. Thanks to that, I was able to join the academy right away. Moreover, I even sometimes would receive research funds from the academy.
“Do your best, Ul-kun. I’ll be working hard here too.”
I say so in my room, clenching my fists.
“Ah, that’s right. A letter has arrived earlier.”
I think it arrived here early in the morning.
“…from the Randall territory?”
When I take a closer look, the letter is indeed from the Randall territory.
Could it possibly be from Ul-kun?
I eagerly open the letter.
I wonder what’s inside? Could it be that he’s feeling lonely without his master? Or perhaps he wants to attend the academy because he is inspired by his master?
“Don’t be embarrassed…my apprentice. Well, if you’re feeling that lonely, I suppose I could drop by some other time…”
―Ultos Randall. Unconscious, severely injured and in a critical condition.
“Ah, I see…in critical condition and unconscious. Hmm…Well, Ultos is a boy, these things happen sometimes.”
Hmm???
Wait a minute…
I Read it again.
“U-Unconscious??? Critical condition???”
The letter is full of ominous words.
“Eeeeeeeeehhhhh!? Whyyyyyyyyyy~~~!?!?”
Author’s Note
Carla-sensei à Thanks to Ultos, she is able to trust others again. She thought by teaching Ultos Auxiliary magic and giving him the necklace, everything would be alright. However, three months later, she is left speechless.
Ultos à A dangerous apprentice who is driven by the pursuit of strength. There is something about him that makes him seem like someone you can’t just leave alone. By the way, he didn’t just get involved in the Lyon incident, he is the mastermind behind it all.
Enrique à Due to his appearance, Carla-sensei is extremely wary of him. If anything, he is the one being manipulated by the young master, not the other way around. Completely misunderstood. Poor guy.
