The Beloved Apprentice Who Seeks Strength (1)
Carla’s POV
“We’ll meet again, my apprentice—”
I watch my apprentice leave the hut.
Soon, my apprentice’s figure disappears from sight.
When I can no longer see my apprentice, I let out a sigh.
I’m overwhelmed by a sense of relief.
Because, I have just completed a certain task.
The auxiliary magic, the necklace.
I clench my fist in celebration, knowing that my plan has succeeded.
Having done all of this, surely—
“Ul-kun will give up on pursuing strength…!”
—Ultos Randall
The only son of Duke Randall, my apprentice.
I’m genuinely worried about him. Even though he always has a cheerful smile on his face, he would always ask about insane training methods to make himself stronger, without considering any of the consequences. I’m truly worried that he might be obsessed with power.
Moreover,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I see, so you went to Lyon.”
“Yes.”
A little while after Ul-kun returned from Lyon, I had a headache after hearing a report from my apprentice.
(As I thought…his aura has changed…!)
Ever since he went to Lyon to introduce himself to the nobles, Ul-kun’s aura has changed.
To put it simply, it’s as if he has succeeded in something and somewhat satisfied.
So, I decided to ask him about it cautiously.
“My apprentice…”
I clear my throat and try to ask him as solemnly as possible.
“What is it, sensei?”
“Umm…well…what did you do in Lyon?”
“Oh, I met my parents and attended a banquet.”
No, that’s not what I meant…
Ugh, this isn’t getting anywhere.
So, I decided to try to ask about the issue more directly.
“So, umm, my apprentice. I got a feeling that got involved in something bad in Lyon. It’s just a feeling, you know.”
“……ah~”
He pauses for a while.
“Yeah, just a bit. When I was with Enrique, we got involved with some bad guys.”
“Hmm. Was it anything serious?”
“Oh no, not at all.”
I see…
‘—we got involved with some bad guys.’
It must have been something like getting into a fight with some thugs in a back alley or something.
(Thank goodness…at least he didn’t get involved in anything dangerous.)
I feel a sense of relief.
The reason why I was so worried is because…
At the same time as Ul-kun went to Lyon, certain incidents happened in Lyon.
In the outskirts of Lyon, a man known as a hero, Rain, has clashed with a formidable individual who calls himself ‘Bard.’ Then, in a certain village, a man who introduced himself as ‘Genesis’ has rounded up and defeated a group of bandits in one fell swoop. Finally, the city hall of Lyon’s mayor, Gregorio, was suddenly destroyed by lightning magic.
That’s right.
Until recently, Lyon has been known as a peaceful town.
But now, it has suddenly become known throughout the kingdom as a place possibly more dangerous than the monster-infested frontier.
That’s why I was carefully checking to make sure that my apprentice who seeks strength hadn’t gotten involved in any of these dangerous incidents.
In the end, it seems that he had only gotten into a fight with some thugs.
Well, if that’s all, then it’s fine.
(I was worried he might have been involved in one of those three incidents…but it seems my worries were unfounded.)
After all, you won’t get involved with people from the underworld unless you deliberately went looking for trouble.
On top of that, there is no way that the son of Duke Randall, no matter how reckless he is, would mess with someone from the underworld.
I let out a relieved sigh.
However, at the same time…
Enrique…huh?
I know the person my apprentice mentioned.
Enrique.
Even though I don’t have much to do with adventurer, I’ve heard stories about him, like the one where he fought an ogre barehand.
He’s a man whose abilities has gone completely to muscle rather than magic.
Rumour has it that even his brain is made of muscle.
I’m aware that Enrique is at the Randall mansion.
I’ve been keeping an eye on Enrique while making sure that Ul-kun isn’t doing any dangerous training…or rather, I’ve been seeing him while hiding and secretly watching the mansion from afar.
Enrique’s appearance is definitely one step away from a thug. Also, his aura suggests that he is someone really strong.
But, I kept a cool mind and concluded at an answer.
No matter how you look at it, there is no way Ul-kun is under the influence of that dumb musclehead Enrique.
Perhaps, that musclehead Enrique has taken Ul-kun out against his will and had him attacked by thugs.
‘Hehehe…come on kid, give it a try!’
Enrique’s creepy smile and Ul-kun’s frightened face after being coerced into doing something reckless comes to mind.
“…that bastard!”
I accidentally blurted so.
“Did you say something, sensei?”
“N-No, it’s nothing.”
I look at the innocent boy in front of me.
“My apprentice…”
If things were to continue like that, Ul-kun might end up getting involved in something really dangerous.
That’s why I came up with a plan…
