ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
The white dragon girl opened up to us and began to talk. It seemed that she was the cause of the so-called “magic rampage.” Ancient Dragons were not magical beasts but rather something like spirits. They had no parents, and one day they were suddenly born from the world itself.
In her case, she had been born in the mountains of the frontier. At that moment, all the surrounding monsters had attacked her at once, just like how animal cubs were targeted by predators. Though I thought it took some serious guts for monsters to go after a dragon cub, the fact remained that she had been attacked.
Of course, this child had no experience with hunting or fighting. So, gripped by fear, she had released her magical power at full force. That was the true cause of the “magic rampage” disaster that had occurred in the mountains.
The fact that a single being could unleash enough magic to destroy an entire region was astonishing, but in the end, spirits were a kind of godlike existence. Perhaps you could call them nature spirits. They were beings far higher than humans or magical beasts. No wonder it turned into a natural disaster.
“After that, I just kept eating in the mountains.”
Once she realized she was stronger than the surrounding monsters, she seemed to have become the hunter instead. To recover the magic power and stamina consumed in that explosion, she learned to hunt prey.
One day, while hunting and eating magical beasts in her human form, a human knight order arrived. She had apparently known the existence of humans, but since magical beasts were beside them, she took on her dragon form to eat the beasts.
But then the knight order, misunderstanding the situation and thinking they were under attack, pointed their swords at her.
Well, of course they did. They had been investigating the cause of the rampage, and upon encountering a being they suspected to be the cause, it was only natural they would think it hostile and fight back.
After all, the humans had already suffered the “attack” of the magic rampage. And since they had non-combatants among them, it was natural to ready their swords to protect them from what seemed like a threat.
That said, this dragon child hadn’t eaten a single human. As expected, her eyes had gone to the pile of food the knight order had abandoned. While she was eating that, every knight who had pointed their swords at her disappeared from sight.
Having finished that food, she seemed to have developed a taste for human provisions. They had been so delicious that she decided she wanted those more than monsters, so she set her sights on the human towns.
“And then, while looking from the sky, I saw the same thing left behind. So I came.”
She said.
Apparently, from above she had spotted the pile of supplies I had put out for support. When she wondered if she could somehow get some of it, the knights suddenly slashed at her. Thinking that was too cruel, she shouted—but that only made the attacks fiercer. So when she was at a loss as to what to do, I had stepped forward and told her to eat.
“…So then, Commander Sharon and the others are safe?”
I asked.
“The people in the mountains? They went somewhere, so I don’t know.”
She replied.
Well, that made sense. If she knew where they went, she might have followed them to beg for more food. But realistically, even the Vice Commander I had just seen had that level of combat strength. There was no way they had been done in by monsters.
The only issue was food, but they should have had rations with them. That would get them by for a while. If I asked the logistics unit to send supplies now, it should work out. In any case, the knights had surely seen the dragon flying toward town, so they would already be on their way here.
“So that’s how it is, Margrave. This child doesn’t seem to be a harmful existence after all.”
“Ah… Yeahh. That’s true.”
The Margrave nodded awkwardly. In the end, the disaster really had been nothing more than an unfortunate accident, so there was no reason to resent a nature spirit. She hadn’t meant any harm, and she hadn’t eaten any humans.
The dragon girl sat on the ground with her legs tucked to the side, patting her full belly with a satisfied expression. It seemed she had calmed down after filling her stomach.
“…For now, there doesn’t appear to be any hostility from the Ancient Dragon. I suggest we deem it safe for the time being and send the logistics unit with supplies to search for the Commander and the rest of her unit.”
Vice Commander Mial proposed to the Margrave. The Margrave nodded, and though she didn’t yet relax her guard, she gave the same orders. When the dragon girl spotted the food I had put out for the Commander, her eyes sparkled.
“Can I have more?”
“That pile is off limits. I’ll give you your own, but there might be people out there starving right now.”
When I said that, the dragon girl obediently backed down. Rubbing her small belly, she murmured softly.
“Being hungry is sad. Okay, I won’t eat that.”
“If there’s anything you want, just tell me. I’ll give you as much as you like.”
At those words, her face lit up, and she stared up at me. Tugging at the hem of my clothes, the dragon girl said.
“You’re amazing. I like you. I’ll make you my husband.”
“Oh, I see. But I already have plenty of wives.”
I answered. To be precise, plenty of people were already after my body. If I wasn’t careful, I might end up having to deal with the entire order of female knights.
“No. You’re my husband. You can have children with others too, but you have to make me pregnant.”
“Don’t say something outrageous like that with how you look.”
Aren’t dragons supposed to lay eggs? They shouldn’t be viviparous…. I mean, reptiles aren’t.
Even if she was a nature spirit, doing anything with someone who looked like this would be criminal as hell. But the dragon child didn’t care to listen.
“I’ll give birth to strong children!”
“You’ve already got it decided even without my input, huh?”
Apparently, in her mind, the matter was already decided on.
Weren’t you just born yourself? How could a being with no parents be talking about bearing children already? What kind of ecology did Ancient Dragons even have?
By the way, their descendants were said to become ordinary dragons. Unlike the lesser dinosaur-like kinds, they were intelligent dragons. Some could even learn human speech.
Wait. Does that mean I’m about to become a dragon parent?
“Well, I suppose it’s better that she’s attached. Perhaps it’s best to leave her in your care, Heaven Messenger-dono.”
The Margrave said, pushing the responsibility onto me.
Ugh. But it was true that no one else could keep this child satisfied and full.
“…Alright, I’ll take care of her. Hey, what’s your name?”
“I don’t have one. My husband should decide.”
So I had to choose, huh. She didn’t have parents to name her after all.
Well then, how about that? The partner of a certain princess pirate.
“Then you’re ‘Syldra.’ How’s that?”
“I’m Syldra! It’s a good name!”
She seemed to like it. Good. For now, this was the end of this incident. All that was left was to wait for Commander Sharon’s return.
