Chapter 26: Sleep

We took the elevator to the 23rd floor and entered their house. Just like the rest of the building, the entrance to their apartment was big too. 

During the King Golem incident, the one where I escorted Yuri-nee back home, we only talked at the entrance but now, I was about to enter their house for real. 

Their house was incredibly spacious compared to mine. The house was filled with top-notch house appliances and other miscellaneous items. 

And for some reason, their house smelled good. The pleasant scent stimulated my nose, making me feel excited. 

I wonder what we’re going to eat today. 

Feeling giddy with anticipation, I let the three of them guide us to the living room. I handed the gift we had bought to them and walked to the table in the kitchen.

There, I saw a steaming hot nikujaga (a Japanese meat and potato soup).

Choosing this as today’s menu… This is a foul play. 

I lowered my gaze and Sanae-san gently placed her hands on my shoulder. 

“I asked Rie-chan what Yusuke-kun’s favorite food is and she said ‘Onii-chan likes the nikujaga that our Mom made’.”

I glanced at Rie from the corner of my eyes. Rie had a complicated expression on her face but one thing for sure, I could see a hint of loneliness in her face. 

“Of course, the taste might be different to what Yusuke-kun made but… We’d be very happy if Yusuke-kun can treat our home like your own.”

Seeing the dejected look on my face, Nana spoke up.

“Today’s main character is Yusuke! That’s why, eat to your heart’s fill, Yusuke!”

Yuri-nee also chimed in.

All five of us enjoyed the nikujaga that Sanae-san had cooked for us.

Seeing that, Yuri-nee picked the rice from Rie’s cheek with her fingers and placed the rice into her own mouth. Nana was trying to feed me some meat with her chopsticks, she had a mischievous grin on her face. She was clearly teasing me. 

On the other side, Sanae-san was watching over us with a content smile on her face. 

Everything was in perfect harmony. It was as if I had finally found the missing puzzle in my heart. 

The four of them looked really happy. We really enjoyed the nikujaga that Sanae-san had prepared for us. This nikujaga tasted different from what my mother used to make but… This nikujaga evoked two emotions within me. 

The nostalgic feeling of my mother and… Something entirely new.

“Fufu~ Leave the cleanup to me. Yuri, Nana, can you please make them some tea? Go ahead and relax with a cup of tea. I will join you guys later.”

Yuri-nee and Nana smiled in agreement at Sanae-san’s request.

Rie said, looking happy. But then, Yuri-nee continued on. The worry was evident on her face.

Hearing Yuri-nee’s question, Rie immediately turned dejected.

Rie said, looking clearly dejected. Seeing that, Yuri-nee walked over to the sofa where Rie and I were sitting and she hugged Rie from behind. 

“It’s okay. Feeling lonely is normal. Nana and I have been feeling lonely since our Papa passed away too.”

Rie closed her eyes at Yuri-nee’s comforting words. However, because the strength had left Rie’s body, she ended up pressing her shoulder against Yuri-nee’s ample chest instead. Yuri-nee’s chest got squished under Rie’s weight but Yuri-nee didn’t look fazed in the slightest. 

They’re really good people. They treat me like we’re a part of their family.

Sensing my voice growing weaker, Nana smiled triumphantly.

“It’s okay. You can sleep all you want here. Look, Rie-chan is sleeping peacefully too. Don’t worry. Only good things will happen to the two of you from now on and forever….”
