Chapter 84 Envoys of the Church
Me and Lania were on duty at the café Elfir.
“Welcome!”
“Welcome!”
The girl’s greeting alone was enough to make it cute, and I liked it.
“How may I assist you?”
An elegantly dressed old man arrived with three girls who seemed to be his attendants.
“Hmm. Can we have four servings of Ice Health Tea?”
“Yes, certainly.”
Lania responded cheerfully.
It was another sunny day, and the sun was shining brightly.
Since the iced tea was already prepared, I quickly took care of the preparations while asking Lania to serve the customers.
“Hmm, the flavor is not bad.”
“Yes, indeed, Your Holiness.”
“What about you, young lady?”
“If the bitterness is at this level, it actually feels like it would make me healthier. It’s just right.”
“Hmm.”
It seems they are interested in the health tea.
Whoa, that’s unexpected.
――Your Holiness.
Wait, if I’m not mistaken, he is the priest from the Raffalier Church.
Indeed, he’s relatively a neighbor, but did he come all the way here from the main street?
“Excuse me.”
Oh no. The priest is looking in our direction.
“Excuse me.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Me, you mean?”
“No, no need to be formal to me.”
“Oh, thank you.”
The priest replied, relaxing his demeanor.
I thought he would be a really scary person, but he’s completely different from my imagination.
“Is this health tea your idea?”
“Well, yes, it is.”
“I also spoke to the leader of the slums’ kids, but he said, ‘I don’t understand complicated things, so ask Ed. It’s his idea,’ and the conversation didn’t go well.”
“I see.”
“How about it? Would you like to trade with the Seven-Seven Company? We don’t interfere in the local market where Bielcera Store is selling, but how about trying to sell it in other towns?”
That general store where we get the spoons, baskets, and tea products.
Apparently, it’s quite a large store called Bielcera Store.
I didn’t know that.
I still haven’t been there. I should reflect a bit.
Well, it’s because it’s on the noble street side of the main street, so it’s hard to enter. Dridon-san’s place has had a connection with them since the Eldania era. I guess the big players get along well.
So they’re talking about trade with other cities.
I’ve had such fantasies before, but I never expected it to come directly from the priest.
After all, they’re a separate organization. Externally, at least.
“How about it? Any complaints?”
“No, I would like to consider it positively, but is it alright for the priest himself to be involved?”
“Well, it’s a separate organization for administrative purposes, but I also serve as the branch manager of the company. There’s no problem.”
When he clearly says there’s no problem, it’s quite “strong.” The priest is different. He must be a seasoned warrior in business.
I don’t really know if there are no problems. I won’t touch anything risky.
Based on my antenna sensitivity, a strong yellow light is flashing.
“As for the price, let’s have the person in charge of practical matters discuss the market price before making a decision. First, let’s distribute it within the country. We’ll make sure it reaches every city. We’ll stake it on the number seven-seven of the cities.”
When he says that, well, I guess I’ll give it a try then.
We discussed the issue of having too much quantity, and it was agreed that we won’t push ourselves too hard, despite the request for as much as possible.
“Twenty percent of the price goes to you, Ed-kun. That’s the agreement. The remaining sales will go to the leader of the kids.”
“Oh, okay. I understand.”
I feel a bit guilty about receiving something in return. I’m supposed to be the originator of the idea. Since negotiations and such are being handed over to me, I’ll consider it as compensation for that effort.
It seems like I’ll continue to be involved in the future.
The conversation progressed smoothly.
First day of work.
I approached acquaintances and older children, grabbing anyone who seemed idle.
Among those who were doing odd jobs in the city, there were people who said that this opportunity was better.
We walked together, gathering herbs from the grass.
Truly, all of us together.
Though we didn’t completely exhaust the supply, we collected a considerable amount.
Each person took some back to their homes at various locations and dried them to turn them into dried herbs.
We would deliver them in the evening after being asked in the morning.
This sense of speed is amazing.
I don’t think we often see this kind of thing in Japan.
We packed the dried herbs, which had reduced in quantity, into backpacks and brought them to the Seven-Seven Company.
“We’ve come to deliver.”
“Yes, yes. Oh my, you’ve all done a great job.”
“Thank you very much.”
The gang of kids basked in the maid’s praise, their smiles widening.
It’s always nice to be praised by a beautiful maid, you know? I understand, yeah.
Even the girls among us were delighted and joined in the celebration.
We often do menial tasks and sometimes get scolded, so being praised feels really good.
Though the priest himself didn’t come out, a person of importance did and escorted us inside. They immediately paid the fee.
Generally, in this kind of business, direct exchange of goods for money is common.
They say they don’t usually do sales or purchases on credit with people they don’t trust.
Both Harris and I received our share.
Then Harris started distributing it among the participants.
Outside, everyone was waiting.
“Thank you.”
“Thank you.”
“Thanks, big brother.”
“Thanks, Harris.”
“Thank you very much.”
Everyone received the money with joyful expressions.
It somehow makes me happy too.
“Well then, please count on us again next time. It will surely sell.”
One of the higher-ups from Seven-Seven came out personally and praised us.
“Will there be a next time!?”
“Let’s do it again together, everyone.”
It turned into quite a big event, but that’s how it became the Herb Harvest Festival at the beginning of summer.
