Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 133 Peaceful royal capital sightseeing
It’s quite liberating not to have to worry about glances anymore. The constant awareness of the lurking assassins in the background had prevented me from fully enjoying moments until now.
The Flower Festival has already come to an end.
Before I knew it, everything had been tidied up, leaving no trace behind.
However, unlike the chilly winter, the temperature was pleasantly warm, and the streets remained bustling as usual.
“Look, a fur store.”
“Oh, those are raccoon furs. ‘Counting the Skins of Untaken Raccoons,’ they say.”
“So, that’s what it means.”
Even Minya seemed intrigued, her eyes wide with curiosity.
It appeared to be a specialty raccoon fur store. There were several customers, likely wealthy merchants or nobles, adorned in expensive attire.
The displayed furs were thick with soft, brown hairs, exuding a cozy warmth.
Although it was already spring and the necessity was diminished, they seemed perfect for draping around one’s neck for a touch of elegance.
“Let’s indulge in some seafood today.”
“Yeah!”
“That sounds wonderful.”
“Perrfect.”
And so, we entered a spacious restaurant specializing in seafood, akin to a seafood izakaya you might find in Japan.
“Welcome!”
“We’ll have the lunch set for five.”
“Understood.”
The party consisted of me, Minya, Lania, Ciel, and Tomaria.
Tomaria, perhaps out of concern, never lets us kids go out alone. Even when we were playing on the sandy shores and exploring the rocky coast, she kept a watchful eye nearby.
“Scallops.”
“Tuna.”
“Bonito.”
“Tilefish.”
“Whitebait.”
We took turns naming the fish from the sashimi set.
The scallops were quite sizable, measuring around six centimeters. The tuna, thinly sliced, adorned multiple plates. And the white-fleshed tilefish, I wonder if it’s a local delicacy here.
We dipped them in fish sauce and savored each bite.
“It might be uncommon for people from inland areas, but we serve raw fish.”
“That’s right.”
It seems that even in the capital city, there are few places that serve raw fish.
On Earth, it’s common in Japan, but I don’t think it’s as popular in other countries.
We savor the taste of the fresh raw fish, a rare treat after a long time.
“So delicious.”
“Yeah, it’s amazing!”
I wish there was rice to go along with this.
Rice seems to exist here, but it’s not as common.
I munch on the slightly coarse bread, a type made from cheaper, less refined wheat flour. Many commoners consume bread of this quality.
In the slums, even lower-quality, hard black bread is the staple.
“There’s tomatoes!”
“Oh, wow!”
We’re in a dried fruit shop.
They sell all sorts of dried fruits.
I never thought tomatoes could be classified as fruit, but here they are as dried tomatoes.
“These are dried tomatoes from Sturmir Village. They’re of high quality, but the recent shipments have decreased.”
“Oh, yes, I know.”
While I’ve provided some agricultural guidance, the outcome is still uncertain.
I hope it goes well. I wish for a prosperous future for Sturmir Village from the distant capital city.
“Please, have a taste of this. You can try one for free.”
“Really? Thank you.”
Everyone tries a small dried tomato.
“So delicious.”
“Tastes great!”
The tomatoes have a delightful combination of saltiness and sweetness, along with the unique umami of tomatoes.
Oranges and other fruits may have a pleasant aroma, but they lack the same depth of flavor.
Dried tomatoes are undeniably delicious.
“I’ll take these.”
“Sure, thank you.”
I purchase some dried tomatoes. These will be perfect for a snack.
I’ll enjoy them while riding in the carriage on the way back. Carriage rides can be quite leisurely.
“Hey, isn’t this the dried fruit shop?”
“Yes, but it’s more accurate to call it a dried goods store.”
“Um, I’ll have some kelp, please.”
“Of course.”
Yes, seaweed! Perfect for making broth.
If I have this and bonito flakes, it’s a winning combination.
Combining mushrooms and seaweed enhances the umami flavor synergistically. This is definitely worth buying.
“And over here, some pasta as well.”
“Thank you.”
I also buy some pasta, dried noodles.
Handmaking pasta can be quite a task, so it’s a pleasure to buy it when available.
While it wasn’t common in the Slums and Trieste City, it seems to be readily available in the capital city.
While it might be found in Trieste if I look around, I can easily find it here in the capital city.
In this way, I gather various items.
Thanks to my previous battles with boars, goblin kings and bear that resulted in level-ups, my item box has expanded significantly.
It can easily accommodate this amount.
Even so, it’s not limitless, so I’m being selective.
I won’t buy unnecessary things.
Although I have ample funds, reckless spending is out of the question.
I wouldn’t want to incur the wrath of our investor, Lady Eleanor.
I wonder how Lady Eleanor is doing. I haven’t seen those twin tails of her pink hair in a while.
The following morning, I bid farewell to Baron, the kind old man who took care of me, and left the capital city.
“Take care, Ed. You’re always welcome to come back.”
“Yes. Baron, please take care.”
I cross the Great Melrithia Bridge in the swaying carriage. This truly marks the end of my time in the capital city.
“We had a good time in the capital city, didn’t we?”
“Yes, we did.”
“I want to come back, meow.”
“Sure, let’s come back again. Someday, for sure.”
And so, we continue our journey back to Eldania, swaying on the cargo bed of the rented carriage.
Despite the hustle and bustle in the capital city being more than expected, I think it was worth the visit.
