Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 131 Adventurer’s Guild Survey
An investigation was initiated within the Adventurer Guild’s Royal Capital Branch by royal decree.
Within the capital city, there exists the main headquarters that oversees adventurer guilds throughout the nation, along with the Royal Capital Branch that handles requests originating within the city.
While adventurer guilds are individually managed by each country, their central headquarters is located in Azhilia.
Due to the noble household’s constraints, they refrain from interfering with the adventurer guild, which serves as a fortunate circumstance for us.
We whiled away our time in the royal palace, engaging in tea sessions and leisurely activities.
Venturing out into the city once more, we indulged in a variety of delectable foods.
“Excuse me, may I have some sugar, salt, and pepper?”
“Of course, coming right up!”
We visited the spice shop to procure seasonings.
Even sugar fell under this establishment’s jurisdiction.
We made a cost-effective purchase as we received extras when buying in bulk.
Considering the remaining gold coins for our return to Eldania, we bought as much as we could while consulting our available funds.
There’s no such thing as having too much; I have the luxury of an item box, after all.
“Boy, you sure are buying quite a lot.”
“I wanted to take some back to the provincial city. Transport costs are high on that side.”
“Oh, I can see that. There are sharp ones out there. Well, well.”
I was approached by either the shop owner or a young man. More like the owner’s son, really.
“Care for some milk tea?”
“Oh, thank you.”
As we all gathered, we headed toward the back together.
“Are those folks your friends?”
“No, well, they’re… my fiancées.”
“Ahahaha, fiancées, huh? You’ve got a real masterpiece here.”
“Ahaha.”
“Nice, nice. It’s good to have that kind of steadiness.”
For some reason, my reputation seems to be quite positive.
“Tea tastes exquisite.”
“Delicious.”
“So good, meow.”
The black tea with milk and sugar was incredibly tasty.
Truly befitting a shop specializing in such endeavors.
This is how the week passed, just like this.
Once again, I was ushered into the royal palace’s reception room.
This time, only the king and his secretary were present. The old man was absent.
“Ed, ahem. I have a report.”
“Yes.”
“Regarding the Adventurer Guild, there’s a bit of a complication.”
“What’s the matter?”
“It seems there was a directive from above to obscure some of the destinations among the funds being transferred by individuals listed in the guild’s roster.”
“So, what about the guild personnel?”
“They were merely following orders.”
“I see. And who is this ‘above’ you’re referring to?”
“It appears that the closest aide to the Guild’s Vice Chairman, a blond man, is the most suspicious.”
“Blond hair, you say?”
“Seems like royal blood might be running through his veins.”
“Uh, yes, I mean, I see.”
While the royal family typically produces black-haired offspring through heredity, most people within the family have blond hair. While it’s not uncommon for regular citizens to have blond hair, the prevalence within the royal family is indicative of lineage.
When it comes to a blond man, the immediate association is often with the upper echelons of nobility.
Allow me to recount the tale of the Gid family here.
The Elven nobility adheres to the Titania Orthodox Church, standing in opposition to our Raffalier Church faction.
Within the ranks of this country’s aristocracy, there exist blood ties to the Elves, which seems contradictory, yet it is speculated that there may be followers of the Titania Orthodox Church among them.
“I see. That makes sense. In that case, the most suspicious would be the Kumeer Balmisan family.”
It seems they’ve pinpointed something.
“They have marital ties to the Elven nobility. There must be a connection.”
“I understand.”
As for the guild employees involved in the misconduct:
“Oh, we’ve apprehended them all. Thirteen in total. They’ll face exile and likely end up as slaves.”
“Slaves, you say.”
Slave labor is notoriously harsh.
Commonly, they’re used as rowers on ships, a perilous task that sometimes claims lives.
Among these employees, there are, of course, women as well.
The fate of young female slaves is all too predictable.
While one might sympathize with their predicament due to orders received, a crime remains a crime.
“As for the ringleader…”
“That would be the one who orchestrates it all. Just wait. I will surely catch them by the tail and expose their deeds.”
And so, another week passed.
Though the original schedule was greatly surpassed, Grandfather remained silent.
“Why don’t you stay as long as you like, however many days you wish?”
“Thank you very much.”
He was an incredibly accommodating individual.
Despite the likely expenses involved, there was not a hint of such concern shown.
This is likely what defines nobility, and it’s truly impressive.
We enjoyed delicious meals and occasionally received letters or summons from the royal palace.
“Look, look, it’s the sea, and there are ships, wheee!”
Even Minya was ecstatic.
Lania stared with wide eyes, captivated by the sight of the ocean.
Ciel, on the other hand, was bouncing up and down, her head wobbling.
A row of five large sailboats stood side by side.
On the other side of the pier, numerous fishing boats were docked.
It wasn’t fishing time in the late afternoon.
I suppose fishing usually takes place from dawn until around noon.
The prominent sailboat in the foreground had multiple masts and pristine white sails unfurled.
I believe it’s about to set sail soon.
The other sailboats were seen with their sails neatly folded.
“Look, the ships are setting sail.”
“Wow, wow, wow!”
Indeed, the ships were departing, just as we expected.
The sight of those massive vessels in motion was truly awe-inspiring.
Though they were sailboats, they appeared to have oar ports like a half-galley ship, suggesting rowers were onboard.
At the same moment, the oars moved in unison.
“I wonder how far they’re going.”
“Far, really far, so far away.”
Minya pointed to the horizon, her voice full of excitement.
“Minya, do you want to go far away too?”
“Yeah, someday, let’s go together.”
“You got it.”
That’s right. I had previously discussed with them how I would take them with me to the Latania continent, ruled by the demon race.
As long as I’m there, they seem to be willing to follow me anywhere.
I watched the ships come and go, casting occasional glances at my lovely wives. The weather was perfect.
I hope we can catch the mastermind behind all this soon.
