Chapter 115 Sports day

Autumn has arrived. In Japan, October 10th has long been known as a special day for fair weather. As a result, many schools used to hold their sports festivals around October. However, due to various reasons, some schools have started having them in May or June.

“So, how about we have the Eldania Grand Sports Festival?”

“First, we’ll start with warm-up exercises. It’s crucial to do proper stretches to prevent injuries.”

And so, we all perform a sort of radio calisthenics together. I taught Minya and the others before, and now they’re demonstrating it upfront for everyone to follow along.

“Now, for the first event, it’s the 50-meter dash.”

“Go!”

With a bang, we use a cymbal-like instrument that happened to be in the underground warehouse of the Lord’s Manor. The 50-meter dash follows a straight track.

The carpenters and maids, everyone, runs with all their might. While we may not know our exact times, we can see where we stand by running alongside each other.

Participants enthusiastically compete, and the top performers move on to the final round.

“Yay!”

“Mew!”

Ciel-chan managed to secure first place, so she races against the adults with all her might. However, being a child with shorter legs puts her at a disadvantage. Even with her beast-like agility, she finishes third overall.

“Ciel-chan, you’re fast! So fast!!”

“Hehe, but I still lost, meow.”

“Adults have an advantage with their long legs. You did great!”

“Meow-meow, thank you.”

Ciel laughs, showing her cute fangs as she’s a beastkin. Even with fangs, they look adorable when she smiles.

We had planned to do a borrowed item race, but we found out that some people couldn’t read. Even if they could read numbers, it becomes a bit challenging with the names of specific items. So, we decided to cancel that game beforehand.

“Next is the ball toss!”

“Yay!”

In this game, we throw the balls we made during our free time into baskets we also made. We divide into teams, such as the maid team and the carpenter team, to compete in the number of balls thrown into the basket.

Oh, there’s an incredibly skilled elf maid. The way she throws the balls, they almost seem to get sucked into the basket. It’s quite impressive, and it adds excitement to the game.

“And here we go!”

“What’s this?!”

Minya knows what the game is, but she acts dramatically surprised.

“It’s time for the Big Ball Rolling!”

“Pa-fu pa-fu.”

Each team rolls the large ball around the course, completing one full lap.

This big ball is the result of our hard work. We had a tough time creating it, shaping it round on a thin wooden base. We weaved it lightly with vines to form the body and covered the surface with rabbit leather.

I believe our craftsmanship skills have improved a bit.

“The Big Ball is causing some trouble for the carpenter team. They can’t seem to keep it on track, going left and right.”

“The maid team, on the other hand, is rolling it skillfully. The carpenter team took the lead at the beginning, but now the maid team is catching up fiercely.”

I’m the commentator for this event, pumping up the excitement with my commentary. The Big Ball’s impressive appearance garnered quite a reputation.

And now, for the final event.

“It’s time for the relay! Each team will have one runner, and they’ll pass the baton to the next runner.”

The carpenter team, the maid team, and the local citizens’ team, which we haven’t introduced yet, have their first runners lined up at the starting line.

With a bang, the low sound of cymbals resonates, and all three runners start simultaneously. It’s a close race as each team is quite active in sports on a regular basis.

The carpenter team has stamina but many older members. They took the lead at the start, but the gap gradually narrows.

The citizens’ team is in second place. Even though they are regular citizens, they are not to be underestimated.

As for the maid team, they confidently walk around the spacious Lord’s Manor, so they have confidence in their physical fitness. Moreover, with many young girls in the team, they have plenty of energy.

Though initially third, the maid team overtakes the citizens’ team and secures the second spot. And almost at the same time, they are neck-and-neck with the carpenter team as they hand over the baton to their anchor runner.

“Now, who will win, the maid team or the carpenter team?”

“There’s barely any difference in their positions. Go, go, go, just a little bit more!”

“They’re approaching the finish line. It’s a close finish, but the maid team takes the win!”

And so, the maid team emerges as the first-place winners.

Indeed, the young ones are strong.

The older members all have bittersweet tears in their eyes.

“Thank you for your participation, and that concludes the sports festival.”

Applause

Despite everything, everyone is wearing a bright smile at the end.

“Ah, it’s lunchtime! Time for a feast!”

Oh, yes! The carpenters and the Dwarven master are raising their ale-filled cups, making a toast together.

Oh, look closely, the Dwarven master seems to have gotten hold of some stolen distilled spirits from somewhere and is enjoying it.
