Lania is the serious one among us. It seems her family is more devout than ours, with a noticeable difference in how involved they are in church affairs.

The white stones used in the church were locally sourced, some even salvaged from a rubble pile. They were recycled as they are now, forming the walls of the Raffalier Church. In a way, it stands as a symbol of recovery.

Next to it, the construction of Seven Seven Company’s building was already halfway complete. It, too, was constructed with the same style of white stones.

On the opposite side of the fountain square, the construction of the Eldania Adventurers’ Guild branch is underway. It is being funded by various Adventurers’ Guilds, including the headquarters from the capital and the one from the Trieste City. Another team of skilled craftsmen is working on this wooden and stone hybrid building, which has become the prevalent architectural style in this area.

Members of the Adventurers’ Guild, including higher-ups and staff, have already arrived and are giving instructions. They have set up a temporary branch in tents to conduct their guild-related tasks.

However, there isn’t much work to be done at the moment. They mainly buy magic stones from the two hunters present and handle guild card renewals. The task of dismantling the hunted monsters falls to the hunters.

“Next, there are the tenement houses!”

“Yeah, these will be used as accommodations.”

“I see.”

The group of craftsmen who initially handled the foundation work for both buildings has started constructing the tenement houses along the main road, just a block away. The plan is to create accommodations for the increasing number of people coming to Eldania for work. They have already completed the foundation work for the first tenement, and now they’re working on the second one, with a separate team working on the superstructure.

With more people coming to Eldania for work, the Lord’s Manor Hotel will soon be overwhelmed. Therefore, it is essential to provide self-sufficient facilities in advance.

Following the completion of these tenements, there are plans to create a residential area with a similar design. Since it will follow the same layout, the construction process will become faster as the workers get accustomed to it, and the quality of the buildings is expected to improve as well.

“Downstream from the fountain square, there are still makeshift huts along the street.”

“Yeah, it’s a convenient location for passing through. At least these huts have proper roofs compared to tents.”

Apart from the tenement houses, there is also a team constructing barracks for the existing residents to live in. Although they are temporary, having these huts is better than nothing. Until now, with no carpenters available, the residents have been living in tents.

In the makeshift barracks, two restaurants have already set up shop, serving lunches and other meals. This is contributing to a steady increase in the local population.

Ta-da! The dish served is freshly harvested autumn eggplants grown in the fields in front of the Lord’s Manor. They are grilled and served with fish sauce, which is quite similar to soy sauce but without the strong fishy smell.

This fish sauce, like a sauce, is imported from the capital. As the capital is located downstream at the river mouth, it has fishing ports and is known for its seafood products.

“Eggplants are huge, meow!”

“Yeah, Minya. You loved eggplant too, right?”

“Yes, I love eggplants!”

Lania and Ciel nod in agreement with Minya’s statement. I, too, am fond of eggplants.

On the plate are large, grilled whole eggplants. I cut them in the middle with a fork and open them up.

The purple skin splits open, revealing the green flesh inside. I drizzle the special fish sauce on it.

Dried fish is a prominent industry in the capital, and it gets transported to Trieste City as well. Since it passes through Eldania during transportation, we managed to secure a portion of it along the way. Of course, we paid an appropriate fee for it.

We bought it at the same price as it would have sold in Trieste City, so the empty space in the transport was used for loading hunter’s meat, and the merchants didn’t incur any losses.

Anyway, let’s dig in!

“Mm-hmm, let’s dig in.”

“Bon appétit!”

“The fish is delicious.”

“Yes, it’s really tasty. It’s packed with flavor.”

“Meow-meow, it’s so yummy.”

Gently flaking the fish with a fork, we savor each bite. The bones have been skillfully removed, leaving only the backbone to be mindful of.

The fish has been marinated in fish sauce, allowing the flavors to seep in.

Meat is delicious, and so is fish.

It seems that large fish are not as abundant in the rivers around here. There are some fish resembling black bass, but most of the fish are from the sea. When transported from the capital, they usually arrive as dried or preserved fish.

Fresh tuna or horse mackerel is a rare find in Eldania, it seems.

In theory, someone with an item box could transport it here, but there aren’t many item box users around, and I understand that.

More than half of the item box owners are successful adventurers or involved in business. However, right now, there’s no one who can instantly bring us fish.

As I savor the taste of dried horse mackerel, I feel a connection with the vast sea.
