Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 111 Early autumn storm
This morning, the sun was still shining, and it seemed like it would be a nice day.
“Good morning, Gid-san.”
“Good morning, it’s another beautiful day today.”
The girls were dressed in matching maid outfits, assisting with their duties. However, as the afternoon progressed, the sky gradually became overcast, and eventually, large black clouds started rolling in. The gentle drizzle turned into a heavy downpour.
“The rain is really intense. The Lord’s Manor has walls, so it should be fine, unlike the slums…”
“Yeah, it’s probably better not to go near the river or anything.”
Looking out of the Lord’s Manor window, they observed the scene outside. The rain had turned into a torrential downpour.
“It’s a bit scary.”
“Yeah, it is.”
Crackle, boom, boom.
“Meowww!”
“Kyaaaa!”
“Myauuu!”
Thunder. It flashed brightly, and it might have struck somewhere nearby.
Everyone was startled, clinging tightly to me.
But with all three of them huddled together, it was getting cramped.
“Let’s go downstairs, to the basement. It’s quieter down there.”
“Yeah…”
Staying close, we managed to move and descended the stairs.
We entered the room that had been converted into a reception area in the basement and closed the door.
There seemed to be some soundproofing, as the rain’s noise became quieter.
The sound of thunder wasn’t as terrifying either.
However, each time thunder roared, little Minya flinched like a real cat
“I hope the basement doesn’t get flooded.”
“The Lord’s Manor is built on top of a hill, so it should be fine.”
“Oh, I see.”
Minya nodded with an impressed expression.
“Is Lanierda’s slum district going to be okay?”
“Well, it’s a bit far from there, so maybe the rain is weaker over that way.”
“I hope so.”
Minya and Lania let out a sigh, seeming slightly relieved.
However, there was no certainty.
Eldania is closer to the foothills of Mount Helhorn, and I’ve heard that clouds collide with the mountain there.
Even in winter, snow manages to pass over from the other side of the mountain, so it snows in Eldania but not in Trieste City.
Dooon!
Thunder sounded again, a bit further away.
Everyone flinched, clinging tightly to me.
The basement was cooler than upstairs, providing just the right amount of warmth.
It even had a pleasant scent of the girls, which was quite a perk, although mentioning it might get me scolded.
Unlike above ground where lightning flashes brightly white, it’s still less frightening down here.
I took out peaches from the item box and shared them with everyone.
Chomp, chomp, chomp.
“Mmm, delicious!”
“Yeah, it’s really tasty.”
“Agreed.”
They all enjoyed eating the peaches. It was snack time, but while eating, they were not too concerned about the weather outside.
Having prepared the basement was a good decision.
“Well, since we have the chance, let’s play ‘San-narabe’.”
“‘San-narabe’?”
“Yes.”
I took out several white and black stones.
We placed a thin wooden board in the shape of a well and used it as the playing board, instead of drawing lines.
“The goal is to get three in a row vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.”
“Oh, I see.”
Though I knew about this game from my memories, I didn’t often get the chance to play it due to spending most of my time playing outside.
“Here, white.”
“Ah, yes. Black.”
“White.”
“Black.”
“Oops, there you go. White.”
“Wait, a moment. Ah, black.”
“There you go, white. I win.”
“Aww.”

I played against Minya, and I won.
“Let’s all give it a try.”
“Yeah!”
Both Minya and Ciel were visibly intrigued, their ears twitching with excitement.
Lania, on the other hand, had a mischievous smile, her mind already formulating various strategies.
Now, it was a test of Minya and Ciel’s instinctive skills against Lania, the master strategist. Who would come out on top?
“Shall we start with Minya-chan and Ciel-chan?”
“Sure thing!”
And so, the match began.
White, black, white, black, white, black… in the first round, Minya emerged victorious.
“One more time, please.”
“I’ll win this time, meow!”
“Not gonna lose, meow.”
White, black…
And thus, an intense battle ensued between the girls.
As they played several rounds, Lania gradually took the lead, ultimately achieving a resounding victory.
Nevertheless, Minya and Ciel put up quite a fight and showed considerable skill along the way.
“Speaking of which, is it still raining?”
“Looks like it stopped now.”
“I’ll go check outside!”
Minya darted out, seemingly eager to explore the Slum District.
However, we were in Eldania, not Lanierda.
We followed Minya, rushing after her.
Stepping out of the Lord’s Manor, we entered the Noble District.
Unlike Trieste City, it wasn’t very extensive and had a somewhat neglected appearance.
After passing through the Noble District, we reached the Fountain Square.
“Everyone, look! It’s surprisingly…”
The water level in the irrigation canal had risen, creating puddles here and there, but the city’s residents were calmly going about their business, seemingly unaffected. The carpenters, however, seemed to have taken the day off.
“What’s wrong, Minya-chan?”
“Do you need something, Minya-chan?”
Minya shook her head and looked around, seemingly searching for something.
“Aaahhhh!”
Suddenly, Minya burst into tears, leaving the people around us looking a bit perplexed.
“I’m scared of the rain. That day, it rained too, and if Ed-chan hadn’t let me into his home…”
Ah, right.
It was the day when I found Minya in the rainy streets of Lanierda’s Slum District.
I had almost forgotten about it.
In Lanierda, there are no drainage channels like in this city, so the roads slightly slope to prevent houses from flooding. When it rains, the streets turn into rivers.
Minya, together with Gid-san and Melun-san, had been walking through the almost flooded Slum District, feeling lost. She managed to make it to my garden and sought refuge there.
Being in an almost flooded outdoor area can be terrifying, no doubt.
I called out to her and brought her inside my home.
Perhaps it left a traumatic memory.
Even though she’s around the same age as me, that experience seems to have been imprinted as a frightening memory.
As soon as she saw me, she rubbed her head against me.
“Hehe, Ed is wonderful. He protects us.”
I gently pat her head.
Minya giggles through her tears, looking a bit exhausted.
Though she’s always a little clingy, today, she seemed to be even more so, seeking comfort.
