Rising from the Slum City of Reincarnation in Another World ~ Gathering, Hunting, and Living a Slow Life by Eating
Chapter 106 Orchard, peach and yogurt
The peak of summer has passed, and the nights have become slightly cooler.
However, daytime is still scorching hot.
“Well then, today we’re going to the orchard.”
“The orchard! Peaches, right? Peaches!”
“That’s right, Minya. Let’s pick some peaches.”
“Yay!”
I wonder if the former Lord Eldania had a fondness for fruits, or maybe it was his wife’s hobby.
In any case, considering the size of the lord’s mansion, the garden is surprisingly spacious, with separate sections dedicated to various fruit trees.
Come to think of it, there were even cherry trees along the main road.
There are about five each of grapes, apples, oranges, pears, and so on.
But it seems peaches were a particular favorite, as there are ten trees of just that kind.
Although it had been abandoned since people left, we managed to give it some care.
The grape and apple trees had already withered by the time we found them in this world, which follows a different seasonal cycle.
But the peaches were still ripening, so we did our best to tend to them and finally get to harvest them today.
“Hehe, I hope the peaches taste delicious.”
“Hey, Minya, have you ever eaten peaches before?”
“Yeah, vaguely. They’re sweet and delicious.”
“I see.”
It seems Minya has memories of eating peaches during her time in the Elven Kingdom. She even recalls the things she disliked when she was young, so perhaps she remembers the delicious things as well.
The Duchy of the Elven Kingdom must have had vast orchards, like a true peach paradise. Thinking about it, I can’t help but sympathize with Gid and the others and their circumstances. They managed to endure with just beans for sustenance without complaining much.
Well, let’s keep our expectations high for this orchard.
We all skip joyfully under the peach trees.
“Oh, they’re ripening! They’re ripening!”
“Such beautiful colors!”
“That’s right.”
The peaches have turned a delicate pink hue. It’s evidence that they’ve been basking in ample sunlight and storing up their sweetness.
No doubt, they’ll be delicious.
“Heave-ho, heave-ho!”
“Meow, I’m joining in too!”
“Oh, you two!”
Minya and Ciel leap towards the peach tree, while Lania and I follow them on foot.
The kittens seem to possess feline agility as they quickly climb the tree and start picking the peaches.
“Look, we got some! Mmm, it smells amazing.”
“This is a sweet scent, meow.”
“Let me see. Oh, they look great.”
“They look delicious, don’t they?”
I wonder if there were peach trees in the Lord’s Mansion of Trieste.
I wonder how Lady Eleanor is doing. Would she enjoy eating peaches together?
Although the Lord’s Mansion in Trieste has plenty of flowers, the variety of edible plants is not as extensive as one might expect.
Edible plants tend to attract more insects, which the gardeners find bothersome, I’ve heard.
“All right, everyone gets one peach.”
“Yes, yes, yes!”
“Let’s dig in.”
“Let’s dig in!”
Everyone takes a big bite out of their peaches.
“Mmm, delicious!”
“This is so tasty.”
“It’s delicious, meow.”
“Mm-hmm, it’s delicious.”
Chomp, chomp. Chomp, chomp.
We all enthusiastically devour the peaches.
Afterwards, we gather the fruits for the evening meal at the Lord’s Mansion Hotel.
And after dinner…
“What’s this?”
“It’s peach with yogurt.”
“Yogurt?”
“Yes.”
Minya looks at the white substance curiously.
Apparently, it’s something they originally only consumed at home, made by the dairy farmers who supply milk.
They kindly shared some of their yogurt with us.
We combine the sliced peaches with the yogurt and enjoy them together.
“Mmm, peaches are delicious on their own, but yogurt adds another layer of deliciousness!”
“Yes, indeed. They go so well together.”
“Meow, meow!”
The peach yogurt was served to both guests and employees and received rave reviews.
While the former Lord eventually proved to be a bad ruler, this garden is perhaps one aspect that can be appreciated.
Now, within Eldania, there is a vast empty space.
The destroyed houses have already been cleared away, with their wood repurposed as firewood. As a result, the land is overgrown with grass.
“Within this grass, there are catnip plants.”
“Yes, I know about catnip.”
“I see, I see, Miyna. I want you to collect only the catnip flowers.”
“Oh, I see. What are we going to do with them? Eat them?”
“No, we’ll gather them and roast them to make tea.”
“Tea? Wow, there are so many possibilities.”
“That’s right.”
Here, we also have ingredients like valerian for herbal tea, and we’ve received a supply of dried herbs from Harris. However, having only the same types of plants can become monotonous.
Having a variety of options can be effective, even as a backup plan.
“Meow, catnip~ Meow, meow, meow!”
“Meow, meow, indeed.”
“Meow, meow, meow!”
With everyone feeling like cats, we gather catnip plants. Even people passing by with free hands observe and offer their help.
Soon, we have accumulated a large amount of catnip flowers. We carefully extract the seeds from the flower heads.
Next, we lightly roast them in a frying pan, and voila, the catnip tea is ready!
“It has a slightly savory and wonderful aroma!”
Minya’s nose twitches with excitement. Lania and Ciel also wear delighted expressions.
We boil the roasted catnip in hot water.
“It’s delicious.”
“Well, it’s not bad.”
“It’s a new tea, meow.”
And so, catnip tea joins the hotel’s list of beverages.
It’s a limited-time, all-you-can-drink service. The iced version incurs only a fee for the ice.
For self-serve hot tea, it’s free of charge.
It seemed that there weren’t many people who had experienced it before, so I was regarded as unusual and found to be useful.
Although it’s not incredibly delicious, having different variations is still enjoyable.
The construction of the Lanierda defensive wall in Trieste City has been completed, and the carpenters who finished repairing houses in Trieste now have their hands completely free, so they came to Eldania as a group.
They are currently staying at the Lord’s Manor Hotel.
The temporary tents around the central fountain have been relocated.
The purpose is the proper reconstruction of houses.
It started with the Raffalier Church in front of the fountain. The sponsors include, of course, the Lord of Trieste and the Raffalier Church of Trieste.
The church seems to be enthusiastic about spreading its influence in the new city. The slogan “77 throughout the country” is not just for show.
The foundation work has already begun.
If houses are rebuilt one by one, the city can be fully restored.
I’m looking forward to the future development.
