Chapter 101 Milk Securing and Melun Clinic
Around the time we were about to move to Eldania…
“Oh, that’s right. Milk.”
“What about milk, Ed-chan?”
“Well, you know, Minya, we always get our milk from the dairy farm, right?”
“Yeah.”
“But if we move to Eldania, it’ll take four days to transport it. If I carry it in my item box, it’s fine, but if someone else brings it, it might spoil.”
“Huh… Does that mean we can’t have pudding either?”
“That’s right.”
“Oh no!”
“Yeah, I thought you’d react like that.”
So, we decided to talk to the dairy farm.
Let’s get straight to the conclusion.
The second son of a dairy farmer in Trieste City will establish a branch in Eldania and provide us with milk. The reason is that they were already cramped in Trieste City and couldn’t handle more livestock.
The dairy farm operates only within Trieste City.
The reason is that if they go outside the city walls, goblins and other creatures attack the cows.
Therefore, there aren’t many cows in the surrounding villages either.
There are a few villages that manage to keep their cows safe by building sturdy fences around their pastures, but those are exceptions.
So, a caravan was formed, including a horse-drawn cart carrying two male and five female cows, along with other merchants, to move to Eldania.
Most of Eldania is still undeveloped land, with grass growing abundantly.
A corner of it, which was originally farmland or pasture, was generously reserved.
“We really appreciate this. With this, we can expand our business.”
“Oh, we just wanted to have our own milk.”
“We didn’t produce milk in Trieste City originally. We focused more on cheese, butter, and skimmed milk powder. So it’s fine to transport them from Eldania instead of Trieste City.”
“I see.”
Well, apart from us, a major migration has been completed, and now there are cows walking within Eldania Castle.
The entrance is guarded by gatekeepers, but since the fences aren’t properly in place, the cows freely roam around the mostly empty castle.
It’s quite amusing in its own way.
Oh, by the way, regarding the Melun Clinic.
We have requested Mikurashia-san to conduct interviews as we plan to have a new person take over there.
“Please leave it to me, Melun-sama.”
The young half-elf lady kneels down on one knee.
It seems that Mikurashia-san knows many of the half-elves in Trieste City and has a few acquaintances who are looking for something to do instead of physical labor.
Among them, a young lady who excels in healing magic will be taking over the Melun Clinic. Her name is Mimilene.
She appears to be around twenty years old. From the way she seems to know Melun-san, she might have been a former resident of the Salvatoria region. Although she has the features of a half-elf, her golden hair and ears suggest a relatively pure lineage. Her charming dress in a fresh green color indicates that she might come from a decent family.
There’s a possibility that she might be a noble’s child, and based on my appraisal, she could be classified as an “elf” level individual.
“It seems I can trust you. Are you confident in your abilities?”
“Yes, I will provide treatment without distinction for humans, beastmen, or elves.”
“In that case, let’s proceed with it, shall we?”
“Please allow me to take on this role.”
“Then we entrust it to you.”
And so it was decided.
While not exceptionally powerful, Mimilene seems to be capable of performing ice magic without any issues, ensuring that Elfir No. 2 branch will continue without problems.
“A café and a clinic, huh? Sounds fun.”
“That’s good to hear.”
Melun-san and Mimilene-san exchange a light embrace.
Apparently, this is a gesture of trust between Elven-style girls.
Greetings can vary depending on races and such.
For humans and beastmen, a handshake is usually the standard.
And then comes August.
“It’s hot. Let’s have some ice cream.”
“Ice cream? A cold beverage?”
“No, I mean ice cream.”
“Ice cream? Cold?”
“Yes.”
“Yay!”
Thanks to the relocation of the dairy farmers, we can now serve milk at the Lord’s Manor Hotel as well.
The dairy farmers are still living in the manor since they don’t have their own homes. The cows are grazing outside.
There is a large temporary tent that serves as a rain shelter and a resting place for the cows during the night.
It’s also convenient that we have easy access to cheese.
Now we can get cheese for the pizza without having to order it separately.
Speaking of eggs, Eggbird-chan has also moved here.
So, using magic, I chilled the milk, sugar, and egg yolk with ice and kept stirring it in a swirling motion.
We don’t have vanilla, but we have leaves with a similar flavor, so I boiled them and extracted the essence to use.
Swirl, swirl, swirl…
“Oh, it’s starting to solidify.”
“Yes, keep doing it like this. Great job, Mark-san.”
“Alright!”
Mark-san is strong, so he can handle this easily. I’m still a bit weak, you know.
“Okay, it’s done. Thank you, Mark-san.”
“No problem at all. Can I have some of the ice cream too?”
“Of course!”
Mark-san did a great job despite the considerable amount.
“Sweet! It’s delicious, meow!”
“It’s creamy and delicious!”
“It’s delicious, meow.”
Mīnya sticks out her tongue and licks around her mouth.
It seems like she still wants to eat more, but it’s difficult to make a large quantity, so we’ll have to hold off today.
All three of us are enchanted by the ice cream.
“Ed, let’s have you make it again sometime.”
“Yeah, that sounds good.”
Mark-san was the first to finish and has already gone somewhere. He’s quick in moments like this.
Oh, I see. He quietly ate it without giving any to the Rapunzel Sisters and then made his escape.
He’s a mischievous big brother. Ahaha.
Since we rely mostly on supplies transported from Trieste, we want to process what we can obtain locally.
We’ve cultivated vegetables in the courtyard of the Lord’s Manor and nearby vacant areas, turning them into proper vegetable gardens.
Leafy vegetables like lettuce and basil are particularly valuable because they can be harvested early.
Additionally, similar plants to those in the meadows of Lanierda are naturally growing here. As the name suggests, the Eldertake mushroom is more abundant in this area.
Moreover, in abandoned areas that were once farmland, vegetables that were already growing there have remained, allowing us to secure several varieties.
There’s even a significant number of potatoes that have spread on their own and multiplied. If you search the corners, you can find a decent amount of tomatoes as well.
It seems that the remaining residents did not harvest these crops as they weren’t particularly interested.
Both the people of Lanierda and the city dwellers have a strong perception that “food is something you buy.”
It appears that they didn’t have the mindset to consider the possibility of food growing nearby. There weren’t even many people who would walk through every corner of the lonely castle.
Since the city walls remain intact, we only needed to secure the broken gate for security purposes. It seems that most of the original residents were associated with the security knights and performed various tasks under their command.
