Returned home early, saw my wife embracing another man - Chapter 5- Asuka\'s POV
[Asuka’s POV:]
“Haah…” It was already morning.
I was returning home. My body was tired because I couldn’t sleep a wink last night.
I…lied to Yuto again.
I told him that I was going to check on Akari, but I hadn’t even contacted her for some time now.
I had no other choice but to lie to him.
It pains my heart. He had planned a date yesterday, taking leave early but I couldn’t stay. I had to go and couldn’t tell Yuto-kun where I was going. He would have felt betrayed.
“Are you okay?” Came a voice from the left.
I turned to look at him. His eyes were tired too.
I faintly smiled, “Yes…I am fine.”
He didn’t say anything further and just leaned on the seat.
He is always like this; he can’t comfort and say nice things. But it’s better this way.
I also leaned my head against the window and closed my eyes, taking some much-needed rest.
A few minutes passed before the car came to a pause three blocks away from the apartment where I live.
Can’t let Yuto-kun see me traveling in this car. Never or he would be devastated to know the truth.
I got out of the car and so did he.
“I don’t think you can come tonight?” He asked.
I shook my head, “Yuto-kun must have gotten suspicious. I can’t take risks anymore.”
He sighed, a bit sad, as he said, “I understand. Take care.”
We exchanged a brief hug before I made my way back to the house.
The morning was quite breezy. I shivered.
I wore this one piece since Yuto-kun really likes these kinds of dresses on me.
I even put on some makeup and planned on bringing him to a restaurant I have been thinking of visiting for some time now.
But…now I don’t think he even saw me yesterday. I had to leave in urgency and didn’t even explain anything to him properly.
I was walking leisurely when suddenly someone called out, “Asu-chan?”
I knew that voice. With a smile, I turned towards the brown-haired lady, “Akari. It’s nice to see that you have finally started waking up early.” She was in her tracksuit and must be returning from a jog.
I usually go for a run in the morning and advise her multiple times to do the same so she doesn’t need to take yoga classes.
Thankfully, she started something for a positive change.
She shyly smiled, “I started putting on weight so rather than struggling with yoga, I decided to start running.”
I nodded, “That’s a very good initiative.”
She giggled, “You tell me though, how was your reaction last night?”
My brows elevated, “To…what?”
She lightly hit my arm, “Oh, you don’t need to pretend. I know getting flowers from your husband must have made you a blushing mess.”
I blinked…and then realization struck me, “A-Akari…did you meet Yuto-kun yesterday?”
She seemed surprised, maybe because of the sudden shift in my voice. But I needed her answer so I asked again, “Did you talk to Yuto-kun?”
“Yes…I did. When he was returning home, we coincidentally met. I told him about my plans for the holiday and then went to the market…but what happened?”
My face grew pale…oh no.
“Asu-chan?!” Akari called out but I didn’t respond.
I was now rushing toward my house as fast as I could.
If Yuto-kun talked to Akari yesterday then he must have realized that I didn’t spend the night at her house. And my lie about her health getting worse…he must have known that I was lying.
No…no…no! This can’t be happening. I can’t let Yuto-kun misunderstand me.
I value him and our relationship above everything else.
I-I can’t lose him.
“Ah!” I got imbalanced as I tried to climb the stairs.
My ankle got twisted and I nearly fell.
But my pain was overwhelmed by the anxiety I was feeling at the moment.
I hurriedly climbed the stairs, leaving my heels behind, and approached the door.
I picked up the key from beneath the flower pot and opened the door.
“Yuto-kun?” I called out.
The house was dark.
I stepped inside and my eyes suddenly landed on the bouquet of flowers resting on the kitchen counter.
My heart turned heavy. He brought it for me yesterday but I was in such a rush that I didn’t even notice.
Biting my lips I stepped into the room. Empty.
“Yuto-kun-” I knocked on the bathroom door, but it opened with a little tap.
I looked inside. Empty.
My heart grew restless.
I took out my phone and called him.
But I heard the last thing I wanted to hear.
[The number you are dialing is currently out of reach…]
My mind turned blank for a moment.
I staggered back.
Where could he be?
Clinging to a very fading hope that he hadn’t suspected anything and had just gone to the office, I called Takeshi-san.
But,
[He didn’t come today. Is everything alright?]
I disconnected the call and sat down in the room.
My mind was racing…where he could be? Ah!
I suddenly had a thought.
I got up and rushed out of the house.
There was only a single place where he went when he truly felt hopeless.
I wanted to find him there and not as well.
Regardless of my inner turmoil, I soon reached the graveyard after taking a taxi and upon walking inside the premises….I saw him.
Sitting with his legs curled. His back facing me.
He looked defeated and sad.
I took a deep breath and approached him.
“Yuto-kun…”
