Returned home early, saw my wife embracing another man - Chapter 11- Family
We reached the hospital in an hour.
As Asuka mentioned…it indeed was costly. But well, I knew Asuka must’ve been wanting to see his mother so I couldn’t have let her change two trains to arrive here.
The hospital was huge.
Asuka led me to the elevator and pressed the button for the sixth floor.
We stood there in silence for a few moments before I looked down at myself and asked, “Do I look presentable?” I was still in a shirt and trousers so I wouldn’t say I was looking bad. But my shirt was wrinkled and my hair was slightly messy.
Asuka smilingly told me, “You look great. Mum will like you.”
Her words made me wonder, “You got a filter or something in your eyes?” I was, by no means, looking good.
She giggled and didn’t say anything.
Suddenly, a realisation dawned upon me.
I am going to meet her parents for the first time. Now, regardless of whatever happened in the past, I am their son-in-law and I have been spending a married life with their daughter for the past two years.
‘They won’t look at me in disgust and tell me to stay away from their daughter, right?’ I am married to her so they can’t separate us.
Right?
Soon, the elevator dinged and my trance broke.
We stepped out and Asuka signaled toward the left before we started walking.
I was getting nervous as we approached the destination.
Soon, Asuka stopped before a big glass door and said, “She is inside.”
I nodded before opening the door for her.
Once she stepped inside, I took a deep breath and also walked inside…only to pause upon finding a man standing close to the entrance.
Suddenly, several memories flashed through my head seeing the blond man before me.
Our eyes met and a brief moment of silence passed.
Finally, one of us moved. It was him, “Yuto-kun…thank you for coming.” His voice was gentle and held warmth. Not something I was expecting from the man against whom I fought a few years ago.
….well, it cannot be called a fight…I barely hit him.
‘Why is my left cheek stinging suddenly?’ I smiled at the man stiffly before bowing, “Good evening, Fujiwara Reiji-san.”
I didn’t hear anything for a good three seconds before someone from a little far called out, “Don’t be so formal, Yuto-kun or my husband won’t know how to respond.”
By her frail voice, I knew it was the lady of the family.
I slowly raised my head and just as she mentioned, Reiji-san seemed quite troubled. Woah…that was not something I expected.
I glanced at the person on the bed and I felt I was looking at an older version of Asuka.
She didn’t have any age lines and didn’t look like someone whose son is older than me.
“Come here,” she whispered while gesturing with her hand.
I nodded before giving a brief bow to Reiji-san and approaching the patient.
Asuka was sitting beside her mother.
She glanced at me and then looked at Mother.
Fujiwara Mikoto-san had a warm smile on her face when she asked, “Thank you for coming…I guess something good came out of my sudden fall.”
I shook my head, “Don’t say something like that…Mikoto-san. Asuka had been quite worried about you.”
The woman looked at her daughter, “Well, I can see that you have taken good care of her.”
I rubbed the back of my head…truth be told, in these past two days, Asuka had faced a lot of things, including the chaos of misunderstanding.
“How are you now?” I asked, trying to change the topic.
“She is stable now. However, the doctor has recommended that she stay here for the next three days.” Said the man.
Instantly, Mikoto-san grumbled, “I don’t want to stay here. I don’t like the smell of this place, and since Yuto-kun has finally gotten to meet us, I want to have a proper conversation with him.”
Reiji-san seemed troubled at his wife’s stubbornness. Asuka was also helpless.
So I spoke up, “We can talk here as well, Mikoto-san.” My voice gathered everyone’s attention, “We can visit you every day if you like.”
Mikoto-san blinked in surprise, “Yuto-kun…how sweet of you.”
“…” When she said that, she reminded me so much of Asuka.
“*Cough*” I heard Reiji-san coughing. Agh, did I say that aloud?
Regardless, “Please take care of your health, Mikoto-san.”
Hearing my words, she slowly nodded, “Request from my son-in-law, I can’t be stubborn anymore, can I?”
“No, Mom. You must listen to Yuto-kun.” Asuka smilingly told her.
I glanced at Reiji-san. He seemed relieved now.
Wow…my speculation about rich people being indifferent to their family members has totally shattered after observing this man.
Well, he folded me for saying something bad about his wife, so it should have been obvious.
We chatted for a bit before I suddenly remembered, “Asuka…you haven’t been taking your medicines, right?”
Asuka blinked and then she shook her head. Embarrassed.
I sighed. She has to take that medicine every day because of her high blood pressure.
Getting up I said, “I will go buy some.”
She nodded, a pretty smile lifting the edges of her lips.
I was stunned for a moment. It feels it has been a while since I actually saw her smile like that.
Just as I stepped out and took a few steps, “Yuto-kun.”
I flinched for a moment.
“Let’s go together. I have to buy a few medicines too.”
Crap…Reiji-san is approaching me now.
Being alone with the man…
‘I hope he doesn’t show a different side now.’

A/N:- Thanks for reading.

I know he’s prioritizing this situation and all, but his monologs are way too “oh I misunderstood, oh well”. The misunderstanding part is fine… but what about the almost 2 years of straight up lying to him?????
