Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V3 Chapter 45
Chapter 45: “A Feeling of Sweet Revenge?”
Reo Kanna, the next head of the Kanna family, was sitting with his wife, Akemi, when his father, Reijiro, informed them that Reo’s missing older brother was on the run after stealing a divine sword entrusted to the Institute by Susanoo-no-Mikoto. Reo cursed under his breath.
“Seriously? Not only did he embarrass us by losing the family heirloom, but now he’s committed theft? Wouldn’t it be better to just kill him, Father?”
“I’ve considered that. The Institute advised us not to get involved this time, but if he continues to shame the family, killing him might be the best option. He’s been a slow-witted child since he was young, but to think it would come to this…”
“Reo, Father, please don’t talk about such violent things. That loser will probably be dealt with by the Institute anyway, right?”
Seishiro’s mother was not present in this discussion.
She didn’t recognize Reo as the rightful heir and despised Akemi—who had not only quickly discarded her engagement to Seishiro but had also cheated on him with his younger brother, Reo, before marrying him. Because of this, Seishiro’s mother refused to acknowledge their marriage and lived separately in the estate’s annex.
Many of the servants also disapproved of Reo and Akemi’s relationship, and several of them wished for Seishiro to return.
“Maybe my brother just snapped. After all, not only did he lose the spirit sword, but I also took the position of the next head of the family, and there’s Akemi as well.”
“Mou, Reo! Not in front of your father!”
“Hahaha. Don’t worry about it. It’s Seishiro’s fault for not being able to hold onto Akemi.”
Reo and Akemi already had a child.
In fact, Akemi was pregnant even while she was still engaged to Seishiro.
Technically, this was an affair and could have been grounds for a lawsuit, but Seishiro, having lost everything and fallen into despair, couldn’t bring himself to act against either Akemi or Reo.
The only time Seishiro tried to visit was to greet his mother, Taeko Kanna, but Reo had him thrown out.
Needless to say, Taeko was furious.
Taeko Kanna, originally from the Kanna family’s direct line, had given up her position as head of the family to support her husband, Reijiro. However, Reijiro, feeling empowered, took a mistress, who bore him a child—Reo.
But the mistress didn’t want the child and disappeared, leaving Taeko to raise Reo as her own. She loved him as much as she did her biological son, never imagining he would grow into someone who would steal his brother’s fiancée.
Though Taeko never revealed that Reo wasn’t her biological child, seeing him laughing as he reported his brother’s downfall reminded her of his mother, the former mistress. She deeply regretted her compassion.
Since then, for several years, Taeko had treated Reo and Akemi as if they didn’t exist and had lived separately in the estate’s annex.
“Forget about Seishiro for now. We need to replace the spirit sword that Ginko Aoyama took; otherwise, we’ll lose face with the other families. I heard Akemi’s family has some connections?”
“Yes, actually, my father has ties to a collector overseas…”
Instead of trying to recover the stolen spirit sword, they planned to buy a new one with money. That was the current state of the Kanna family.
—The day after Natsuki’s intense battle with Susanoo-no-Mikoto.
“What’s going on, Father? Why’d you call us here so early?”
“Did something happen, Father?”
Looking puzzled, Reo and Akemi faced Reijiro, who, with a pale expression, began to speak.
“I just received a message from the Institute’s upper management. Seishiro has been forgiven by Susanoo-no-Mikoto.”
“What?”
“W-What do you mean?”
“Exactly what I said! Not only that, but he was also given the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi that he stole, and Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto entrusted him with another divine sword. Furthermore, Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto will be acting as his guardian.”
Reo and Akemi were completely bewildered, unable to comprehend this unexpected turn of events.
“I-I seriously don’t understand any of this.”
“Furthermore, it seems that Susanoo-no-Mikoto is angry. He said he despises men who steal their brother’s fiancée and women who engage in affairs.”
“…Why?”
“No way…”
“Also, the upper management of the Institute has stated that they do not recognize Reo, who lacks the legitimate bloodline, as the next head of the family.”
“What? What does that even mean?”
“Father!?”
Reijiro continued bitterly.
“You are not Taeko’s child. You are a child I had with another woman outside the family. You are not of the Kanna bloodline.”
“…Huh?”
“…What?”
Reo and Akemi were frozen in shock at this revelation.
“…You two will leave this house. Naturally, Reo will be removed as the next head. I’ve also been told to step down as the current head of the Kanna family. Of course, I have no intention of resisting. Who would want to incur the wrath of the gods?”
“Then… what will happen to me!?”
“Father! We have a child!”
“I don’t care! Taeko has served me with divorce papers! I can’t refuse! Why should I concern myself with your problems too!?”
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Susanoo-no-Mikoto: “Hey, it’s Susa-Susa. Yeah, I’m one of the big shots at the Institute. So, I heard about the Kanna family—how the mistress’s kid stole his brother’s fiancée and is trying to become the next head. I hate that kind of stuff. I’m a big fan of my older brother, so this kind of thing really ticks me off. Glad you understand. Oh, and by the way, I’m also stopping you from trying to kill Seishiro. Not that I think you’d win, but the moment you show any hostility, the Institute will see you as an enemy. Got it? Also, just so you know, I’ll be contacting that loose wife’s family too. So get ready, because I’m coming after you.”
Kushinada-hime: “Oh my, how rare.”
Susanoo-no-Mikoto: “Well, I did use Seishiro and the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, so this is just part of the aftercare! So, uh… since you’ve seen how awesome your husband is, maybe you could stop cutting my allowance…”
Kushinada-hime: “I will not.”
Susanoo-no-Mikoto: “Shoboooon…” (*Cries)
