Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V3 Chapter 22
Chapter 22: “Isn’t the Revenger Here?” ①
(What is this feeling? It’s really bad. That man’s right arm… he’s definitely holding something dangerous.)
The man in front of Ren was a worn-out figure, almost lifeless.
He wore a faded mods coat, rumpled slacks, and worn-out leather shoes. His face was tired, with an unkempt beard, but his bloodshot eyes seemed to hold a strong will.
What caught the most attention was the long, cloth-wrapped ‘something’ he was holding in his right arm.
Ren, who was only a novice in spiritual techniques, couldn’t tell what the man was carrying. However, he could sense it was something insanely powerful and definitely ‘not good.’
“…Who the fck are you?”
“That’s my line. I don’t know what’s going on, but you can’t just bring something dangerous into this town.”
“I don’t know your face. Are you a rogue psychic?”
“I used to be, I guess. My situation is complicated, but I’m planning to work at the diner soon.”
“That makes no sense. But you have no reason to stop me, do you?”
“I can’t say until I know your purpose.”
“I have no business with you. But if you intend to get in my way—”
The man began to unwrap the cloth around his object.
From within, a straight sword emerged.
It had an ancient look, but more than that, it radiated a nauseatingly strong power.
“…I don’t think that’s something you should have. No, it’s not something anyone should have.”
“I’m well aware of that! But with this Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, I will have my revenge!”
“Revenge… and in this town of all places?”
Ren didn’t know the man’s story, but Mukaijima City was home to more than just Ren. There were people who smiled at him, Alphonse was starting a new shop, and Natsuki Yura and Kazuto Miyahara lived here too.
A revenge drama was the last thing he wanted in this town.
“Don’t worry. The people of this town have nothing to do with it. There’s only one person I’m after. If you don’t interfere, I promise not to harm anyone. But if you try to stop me…”
The man’s lips curled into a grin.
“I’ll test this blade on you.”
Spiritual energy surged from the man. He was strong, but not stronger than Ren.
Facing him didn’t invoke much fear. Ren could neutralize him if it came to a fight.
(…But the unknown nature of that sword is what scares me.)
“You need not fear. This sword is a divine blade wielded by gods. It’s natural for an ordinary person to feel terrified. Understand? This is a god’s sword. A mere rogue psychic like you stands no chance.”
“If I let you go after hearing that, I might regret it.”
“Brave, yet foolish. I’ll say it again. I have no interest in you or the people of this town. Step aside quietly.”
“I appreciate your concern, but I can’t do that. I’ve hurt and killed people. So, from now on, I want to be on the side that protects.”
Ren was a killer.
Even if it was for survival, he had taken lives for money.
He didn’t intend to escape that guilt and knew he’d face consequences someday.
But until then, he had decided to live righteously.
Therefore, he couldn’t let the man before him use an unknown sword for revenge on someone.
“That’s unfortunate. Then you may as well—die!”
The man kicked off the ground and swung the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
