Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V2 Chapter 33
Chapter 33: “’Aren’t you going to talk with Kazuto?”
“Putting Yuto aside, it appears there’s a link to psychic abilities. It’s only been six days since I returned.”
“—Huh? What? Six days? So much has happened in just six days!?”
“Yeah.”
“Er, how do I put this, wow!”
“I’m not exactly a psychic; more like a magician or a hero, I guess. But recently, I’ve learned to use spiritual power, so I might use it if the occasion calls for it.”
“Can you learn something like that so easily?”
“If you get the knack, it’s easy.”
Beside Natsuki, who made it sound like no big deal, Ginko was shaking her head saying, “No way, that’s not possible.” Kazuto seemed to realize that maybe Natsuki was the odd one here.
“But, I mean, sorry for dragging you into this. I didn’t want to involve Kazuto in this rather grim world, apart from the Yuto-related stuff.”
“No, I’m happy you explained it to me. You could have hidden it or lied about it—thank you, Natsuki-kun.”
“Thank you, too.”
Natsuki and Kazuto raised their arms, lightly bumping their fists together.
A burden seemed to lift from his shoulders.
He had been acting cheerfully to avoid darkening the mood, but he had been afraid of being rejected by Kazuto.
However, that fear was unfounded. Kazuto accepted being involved and Natsuki’s role in it.
“Hey, can I ask you something to make sure?”
“Ask me anything.”
“You’re not going to erase my memory, are you?”
“No way. I can’t do anything that fancy.”
“And, do I need to fight like you, Natsuki-kun?”
“I don’t think so.”
When Natsuki sought help from Ginko, she took over.
“There are surprisingly many ordinary people who assist us. Psychic abilities are part of normal life for some, and there are those who live a double life. Having someone to support us in our daily lives is quite valuable.”
“I see.”
“But, somehow, it seems you have a fair amount of power, so you’d probably be able to fight well once you awaken?”
“Oh, is that so?”
“Yes! But, in my opinion, there’s no need to forcibly awaken your dormant power. You might start seeing things you’re better off not seeing, and get involved in matters you’d rather not.”
“Like, seeing ghosts, maybe?”
“They are around, but not that many.”
“…Not many, huh.”
Kazuto, curious about the existence of ghosts, ends up disappointed to hear they’re not that common.
Natsuki, on the other hand, thinks it’s better not to see them, knowing that the few ghosts he does see tend to be the dangerous kind, classified as “evil spirits.”
“Listen, Kazuto, I’m going to be serious for a second.”
“Okay.”
“You see, Kazuto, your potential is higher than Yuto’s. I don’t know what kind of power you have, but if it awakens, you might not be able to control it, and you could end up hurting someone.”
“Yeah, that makes sense.”
“If Yuto finds out about this side, it could get complicated. I’ve sealed his powers tightly, but there might be someone stronger than me out there. Maybe someone skilled in breaking curses could do it. I’ve sealed it with all my might, thinking ‘let them try to break it,’ but nothing’s absolute.”
“If that shitty brother of mine finds out he has psychic abilities or magic—that would be a disaster.”
Kazuto’s face turned pale.
For Natsuki, it wasn’t a problem if Yuto tried to gain power or use that power against him. He would deal with it, and if not, it was on his own head.
However, what scared him was Yuto learning about the power and using it to harm others or dragging innocent people into the mess.
Depending on how it’s used, this power could easily take lives. It’s not guaranteed to be used for good, and in fact, he thought it more likely to be misused.
In the worst-case scenario, even if it meant causing sorrow to Kazuto and their parents, he was prepared to do what must be done.
“Kazuto, you’re a dear friend to me, like a childhood friend and a brother. That’s why I don’t want to keep secrets from you. But remember, just because you know about this side of things doesn’t mean you have to get involved.”
“—Yeah. I understand, Natsuki-kun. Really, thank you for telling me.”
What Kazuto would do in the future was left uncertain.
He wasn’t deeply involved like Natsuki, nor did he live in a harsh world. Therefore, even knowing Natsuki’s current situation, if he understood, there was no need for him to get involved.
(…But then, I could have chosen to stay silent, prepared to cut ties, and yet I didn’t. I guess I’m just a coward after all.)
He felt a bit relieved after telling Kazuto everything, even though Kazuto could still change his mind. But then he felt bad about himself for feeling that way.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
What will Kazuto’s decision be!?
Natsuki is overthinking things, but the psychics of this world tend to be more laid-back, feeling there’s no need to go out of their way to hide their abilities. Of course, this doesn’t apply to everyone. There are those problematic individuals who believe, “We must make it known that it’s because of us that those without power can live in peace!”
※The story about Yuto in the previous part was just a small joke and won’t happen. If it caused any discomfort, I apologize.
