- Chap 13 - Protecting the Village: Nathan and Fira's Battle Against the Dragon
The dragon’s presence had Nathan and Fira on edge. They knew they had to be careful and find a way to protect the villagers. As they watched the dragon from a safe distance, Nathan noticed something odd about its behavior.
“It’s not attacking. It’s just hovering there,” he said to Fira, his voice low.
Fira frowned, trying to make sense of the dragon’s actions. “Do you think it’s trying to intimidate us?”
Nathan nodded and said, “Maybe. But why? It doesn’t make sense.”
As the dragon swooped down towards the orcs and their village, Nathan’s mind raced with ideas on how to protect them. But before he could even process what was happening, the dragon let out a deafening roar and unleashed a burst of flames from its mouth.
Reacting on pure instinct, Nathan quickly summoned his earth magic and conjured up a massive wall to shield the orcs and their homes from the dragon’s fiery attack. The flames licked at the barrier, but Nathan’s wall held strong, providing a moment of respite for the Orcs to catch their breath.
As Nathan surveyed the scene, he noticed Fira charging toward the dragon, her fists clenched in determination. Without hesitation, she leaped onto the dragon’s back, her arms wrapping tightly around its neck as she attempted to stop the beast in its tracks.
The dragon thrashed and bucked, trying to shake Fira off, but she held on tight, her muscles bulging with effort. With one final surge of strength, she delivered a powerful blow to the dragon’s head, causing it to falter and veer off course.
Seizing the opportunity, Fira took command of the vanguard, engaging the dragon in a fierce battle as she skillfully dodged its razor-sharp claws and fiery breath. Meanwhile, Nathan remained at the rear, using his magic to create barriers and deflect any stray attacks that made it past Fira’s defenses.
Nathan quickly assessed the situation, realizing that they needed to act fast before the dragon caused any more damage. He turned to Fira, his trusted companion and childhood friend, and shouted over the chaos of the battle.
“Fira, we need to take care of this huge lizard, but there are a lot of Orcs in this village, so the best thing to do is to move it far away.”
Fira nodded, her eyes blazing with determination. She knew that they couldn’t risk injuring any of the Orcs, but she also knew that they couldn’t let the dragon continue to wreak havoc.
“I’ll take the vanguard and make sure the Orcs are safe,” she said, her voice resolute. “You focus on protecting the village and the Orcs, Nathan.”
With that, Fira charged forward, her sword gleaming in the sunlight as she slashed at the dragon’s scaly hide. The dragon, however, was not so easily defeated. With a fierce roar, it swung its massive tail, sending Fira hurtling through the air.
Nathan acted quickly, casting a spell to soften Fira’s fall and protect her from injury. As he did, he felt the heat of the dragon’s fiery breath on his back. Turning around, he summoned a massive wall of earth to shield the orcs and the village from the dragon’s attack.
The dragon, sensing that its prey was slipping away, let out another roar and lunged toward Nathan. But Nathan was ready. He conjured a powerful blast of water, dousing the flames of the dragon’s fiery breath and forcing it back.
Meanwhile, Fira had regained her footing and was once again engaging the dragon in combat. Her sword whirled through the air as she dodged the dragon’s attacks and landed blow after blow.
As Nathan cast his spells to keep the dragon at bay, Fira charged forward to engage the beast in battle. With her trusty sword in hand, she slashed and dodged as the dragon breathed fire and lashed out with its claws. Nathan remained behind to protect the orcs and their village, casting spells to create barriers and shield them from harm.
The battle was intense and fierce, with Fira pushing forward as the dragon continued to retaliate with powerful attacks. However, Fira was skilled and determined, and she managed to land several blows that left the dragon wounded and weakened.
As the dragon began to retreat, Nathan saw his opportunity and shouted to Fira, “Now’s our chance! Let’s finish this!” Fira nodded and led the charge, with Nathan following close behind.
The two warriors worked together, attacking the dragon from both sides and using their combined strength to bring it down. However, just as they thought victory was in sight, the dragon let out a deafening roar and took flight, escaping into the distance.
After the battle had ended, the Orcs gathered around Fira, who had fought on the front lines of the battle. Her clothes were tattered and stained with blood, and her hair was disheveled, but her fierce determination had never wavered.
As the Orcs looked at her with surprise, Fira couldn’t help but feel a twinge of anxiety. Would they still hate her for being a half-elf? But to her surprise, an Orc stepped forward and spoke up, “Long live our guardian, Fira!”
Fira was taken aback by the sudden outburst of praise. She had never imagined that the Orcs, who had once shunned her, would now be willing to accept her as their protector. She felt a swell of pride and gratitude towards them.
But there were still a few Orcs who glared at her with contempt. Fira knew that they would always hate her, but she also knew that they were in the minority. She would continue to prove her worth to the Orcs and earn their respect, no matter how long it took.
