Chapter 9: On The Way Home

As I was walking to the villa carriage, Rubens asked worriedly, “Did it go well?”
“Mhm. She liked it better than I expected. It seems like I’ll be able to do a lot of things together with Christy Co, so I’m looking forward to that.”
Rubens sounded impressed as he said, “That’s great.”
However, I must have appeared a little complacent as he gave me a slight warning.
“But everything else aside, please don’t overstretch yourself.”
Well, it was still a difficult situation, so I couldn’t afford to be floating about. If I didn’t do anything, the only fate I’d have in store would be something scary along the lines of exile or execution.
When the thought of the worst future crossed my mind, my body trembled a little as a chill ran down my spine.
“Huh? Is there something wrong?” Diana asked.
“No, I’m fine.”
“Is that so? The sun has fallen a little, so please let me know when you’re cold.”
“Thank you, Diana.”
Apparently, Diana called out to me presuming that I trembled from being cold. It was nice having a kind escort.
“… Mm?”
While I was walking on the street, I came across a girl who was slightly smaller than me. Judging by the high-quality impression given off by her clothes, I figured she was the daughter of some aristocrat.
The girl was looking around and seemed rather frightened in an obvious way. I wondered if this was what a lost aristocratic girl looked like. Either way, I couldn’t leave her as she was.
I approached the girl with my two escorts and called out so as to not scare her. “Are you okay?”
The girl turned around in surprise, revealing brown skin, deep blue hair, and a captivating pair of red eyes. Up close, she turned out to be a very cute girl.
“Ah…”
“I’m sorry. It’s scary to be called out to so suddenly, isn’t it?”
“N-no. It’s okay…”
I could tell that she was greatly frightened, which made me think: ‘Is my face that scary?’ I felt like looking into a mirror if there was one.
The girl was considerably wary, so I told her that we were related to the knight order belonging to the Margrave. I also explained that I wanted to be of help if she was in trouble.
The girl told me about her situation in a tense manner. It seemed she had unknowingly become separated from the people she had come to this city with.
I muttered inwardly, ‘Just as I thought…’ And I decided to guide the girl to the place where she had lost her company.
Fortunately, we soon found the people she had separated from. I guessed they were foreigners and that they were the girl’s servants. They all had brown skin just like her.
I explained my side of the story, of how I found the girl standing alone in the city, called out in worry, asked about the situation, and unable to leave her alone, escorted her to her group.
After I was done, one of the servants, a young lady, walked in front of me and bowed her head, saying, “Thank you very much. You were a true help.”
“No, no. Please raise your head. It’s only natural to help a girl in need…”
The girl who had lost her way blushed and lowered her eyes at my words. The young lady bowing her head looked up, turned to the girl who got lost and began scolding her with a stern face.
“Ojou-sama. It’s troubling if you go off alone as you please!! We were so worried, you know?”
“I’m sorry…”
The little girl nodded with a crestfallen look. Judging from their interaction, it seemed that the lost girl was definitely an aristocrat’s daughter.
I said, “Well then, see you later. Be careful not to get lost.”
“Y-yes. Thank you very much.”
After giving a bow to the lost girl and the young lady beside her, I called out, “Bye!”
This time, I walked back to the villa carriage to set off on the return journey home.

On the way back to the mansion in the carriage, Rubens spoke to Rid from the driver’s seat. “Rid-sama. Are you alright with not having asked for the lost girl’s name?”
When Rubens saw the interaction between the lost girl and Rid, he mused that his young master was going to become one heck of a lady killer in the future. Rid probably had no such intention, but from the perspective of others, his face was too beautiful and refined. He might even appear as a girl depending on how he dressed. If a boy like Rid walked up close to ask, “Are you okay?” any children around his age would freeze in surprise.
Rubens was lost in his thoughts as he waited for Rid’s reply, but he got none.
“… Eh?”
Worried, Rubens snuck a peek inside the carriage and found the boy sleeping peacefully. Rid’s defenseless sleeping face was adorable.
Diana also seemed to have noticed Rid was sleeping. Her eyes were gleaming as she covered her mouth with both hands, exclaiming, “S-so cute!!”
Looking at the state she was in, Rubens thought, ‘Oh come on.’
“… Well, let’s get back to the mansion while Rid-sama is sleeping, shall we?” Rubens muttered to himself as he drove the carriage home.
