Otome Game Mob Villain - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Reincarnation(2)
Translator: mayora13
“Rid Baldia”, whom I had reincarnated as, was a villain mob of a supporting role in the game “Flutterella”, which existed in the memories of my past life.
“Flutterella!” was a Cinderella story, so there was a so-called villainess whose role was to get in the main heroine’s way, and one of the mob cronies following that villainess was me, Rid Baldia.
Only my name came out in the main story. I didn’t even get a standing-pose drawing. But when it came to the end, I’d be convicted as one of the villainess’ accomplices and suffer a terrible fate of being sentenced to banishment, following which I would die in war or be executed. Even though Rid’s name was only mentioned in about a single sentence in the game…
I didn’t play the main story of otome games much. Then how did I remember about Rid?
That had to do with the replayability of “Flutterella!”. Once the game was fully cleared, “Free Mode” would appear. All characters would be unlocked in this mode. In other words, any character that had a name in the main story could be played.
Normally, there was a restriction where you could only use the main characters, but in the extra “Free Mode” the number of playable characters greatly increased, multiplying the fun. The power balance set for each character was superb too. This was one of the reasons why the main story ended up being called a throw-in.
And in “Flutterella!”, Rid Baldia, yours truly, was the character I preferred to use and build.
“… With Rid, if I work hard, things might work out somehow from now on…!!”
Poking my head out of my blankets, I stared at the ceiling with a face full of expectation, because in truth, Rid Baldia was a character that radically changed in the “Free Mode”.
Magic existed in the world of “Flutterella!”, and the important requirement for using it was something called element affinity.
In the game, each character had their set affinities, and while Rid’s initial abilities were set to the lowest, he was the slow-growing type that had a talent for every kind of element.
The main characters had a growth bonus so they could grow stronger at a relatively quicker pace, but having few usable element affinities and spell types was a trait of theirs. Because of that, they would run into some difficulty due to the lack of elemental spell variety when it came to clearing hidden content.
But that difficulty would change drastically just by having a trained Rid, who was capable of using all elemental spells, as a member. The problem, though, was that it was very bothersome to train Rid due to his low initial abilities, so it was only the completionist types that actually used him.
“I like going slow and steady anyhow, and I’m pretty sure Rid had full element affinity too. First, I’ll check the current situation, and then think about my course of action to take. So for starters, I should live straight without getting involved with the villains.”
As soon as I made up my mind, I rang the bell that was put near the bed. Then a little later, a petite, cute maid with black hair and orange eyes said “Excuse me,” and entered my room.
The maid seemed restrained in the way she stood in front of the door with her head lowered slightly, giving me the impression that she was a little scared and tense.
I began, “… You don’t have to be so nervous. I’ve regained consciousness, you see, but I want to check on something a bit… I’m seven years old this year, right?”
“No, you just turned six last month.”
“I, I see. And also…”
As I went on to confirm the details on my age, father, mother, country name, and so on, I realized anew that I was in the world of “Flutterella!”.
“… Rid-sama, I wonder if your body is not in good condition after all? If you will allow me, I shall call the doctor again. May I…?”
The maid was looking at me with an uneasy face. It seemed I made her worry by asking too many strange questions.
“I’m sorry to make you worry. I just felt a little anxious, probably because I suddenly passed out in the garden. I’m okay. Thank you.”
Hearing my reply, the maid appeared slightly relieved. However, she was still giving the impression of being nervous, or being scared perhaps, and that made me wonder.
At that moment, Rid’s memories came back to me.
I put a hand to my forehead, feeling a slight headache, while the maid came closer to examine me anxiously, calling out, “Rid-sama?”
Yes, that’s right. I remembered that I, Rid, would immediately resort to hitting maids or breaking things whenever something went wrong in recent days.
“… I’m an idiot,” I muttered quietly. Then I looked at the maid and kindly said, “… Don’t worry. I’m okay. More importantly, I’m sorry for treating you badly until now.”
The girl turned round-eyed in surprise and replied, “No, not at all…”
I shook my head and refuted her. “Nope. I don’t think my actions toward you all were praiseworthy…”
“… Your feelings are enough. Thank you very much.”
Although the maid couldn’t hide the bewilderment in her voice, some of the fear and tension she showed at first had receded somewhat.
“Oh, right. Do you mind telling me your name?”
“… My name is Danae.”
“Danae. That’s a good name. I hope to get along with you from now on.”
I tilted my head slightly and grinned, while Danae gazed at me, murmuring, “Cute smile…” but then she gasped and lowered her head. “I-I’m sorry! I should be saying! I wish the best to the both of us…!!”
Cute smile… Well, the face of Rid I saw in the dresser mirror certainly was cute. Thinking about how my smiling face would be cute too, I couldn’t help but chortle in amusement, which brought confusion to Danae’s face.
Once I was done asking questions, for the most part, I thanked Danae and bowed my head to her. That made her start gesturing in a fluster as she asked for me to raise my head.
After Danae left my room, I set myself to thinking about what to do next, but by the time I realized it, I had fallen into a deep sleep.
