- EP9. The princess also comes out to the balcony
I, Ebato Ren, put on an apron while playing a cooking tune in my mind.
I’ll omit the cooking scene, but eventually, I was able to cook miso and meat with potatoes.
I put my hands together in front of the warm meal. (tl: itadakimasu)
I liked it; the meat was soft and, overall, the meal was very easy to eat.
While I slowly digested the meal, I washed the dishes, put the excess meat and potatoes in the tupperware, and placed them in the fridge. Homemade food is great because you can store leftover food and save money.
Well, this was great, but a little tiresome.
As I was rubbing my belly, I went out to the balcony to catch the night breeze.
I was holding a cup of coffee in one hand.
The weather was warm today and, personally, I liked drinking outside.
“…Haa…”
I sat on a chair and looked at the night sky. It wasn’t bad to spend time alone.
Of course, if I was asked if I was lonely, I would have no choice but to agree.
“…”
Somehow, I felt someone’s gaze on me. No, I knew the culprit, but I didn’t want to show it, so I ignored it.
I put the coffee on the side table next to my chair and opened my reference book.
Personally, it was easier for me to learn on my own then to listen in school. Let me say this: I go to school just for the attendance credits.
“You diligently study at home, huh?” The culprit suddenly said.
With a jerk, I glared at the culprit. The culprit’s name was Shirakawa Sayo. Why did she even go out to the balcony?
“… Why are you glaring at me?” Sayo questioned with a puzzled look on her face.
“I wanted to relax alone.”
Recently, I feel that I’ve been complaining a lot and getting more and more sarcastic with her. Well, she was the only one who annoyed me in my daily life.
“Don’t say that, let’s relax and look at the night sky together.”
“Haha-…” I laughed.
“I feel grateful that the “princess” invited me. But please show some modesty!”
“I don’t like that so-called “princess”, so please stop it.”
“Okay okay, princess-sama.”
“Muu…”, while pouting, Sayo glared at me in protest.
Hmm, I don’t care. You can hate me if you want. I was not worried about getting hate from the guys in school because of my “shadowy” nature.
After a minute of silence, Sayo remembered something and asked.
“… By the way, can you really cook?”
“Why did you ask so suddenly?
“No, I was just thinking.”
It was the same at the supermarket, but it was really humiliating that she saw me as a useless guy.
Hmm, I will teach her a lesson.
“If you doubt me, then eat my food. Wait a minute, I’ll bring it.”
I went back inside and took the meat with potatoes from the fridge. I came back and shoved it in her hands.
“Since it’s meat and potatoes, it may not show how good of a cook I am, but eat it warm. Then have the nerve to complain.”
“T-Thank you very much. I haven’t had the dinner yet, so it’s just perfect.”
“Let me know later which one is better, your side dishes or my meat with potatoes.”
I didn’t know why I was thanked, but I drank the coffee and, ironically, came back inside to brew another cup.

Again, I was on a balcony reading my reference book when I heard the next balcony door open up.
And once more, I glared at her.
“… Why do I get glared at when I come out?”
“It’s just a greeting.”
“I-Is that so…?”
Sayo, who had a cramped smile, gave me back beautifully washed tupperware.
“So, what’s the impression?”
“The texture and taste were very rich, and it gave me a warm feeling inside. I’m very sorry for being rude before.”
I, in a good mood, breathed out through my nose, and with a self-satisfied face, I looked at Sayo.
“If it was so satisfying, I can bless this, side-dish-eating, princess-sama with my food.”
I’m a bad guy for saying such ironic things. Of course, I won’t regret it.
“… Can I really?”
“… Ha?”
… Wait, what are you saying?
“… I will repay you. So, please, can I?”
She begged.
To be honest, it’s hard to deny.
“… You don’t need to. It’s a hassle to cook. But, when I will, I’ll keep in mind to share with you.”
As expected, every day she gives me a reason to feel sorry for her…
As I was thinking that, Sayo bowed her head while smiling.
“Thank you very much.”
That phrase made me itchy, and I just replied “Oh” while going back inside.
