- EP8. Encounter the princess at a supermarket
Hello guys.
I’m Ebato Ren.
Today, I was going to a nearby supermarket.
I had gotten tired of cup noodles, so after a long time, I thought of cooking something for dinner.
Feeling good today, I wanted to treat myself.
… Well, it was only that the menu had been mostly decided already: mackerel boiled in miso, meat and potato stew, and cooked rice. It felt Japanese, and I could eat leftovers at a later date except for the mackerel.
As I searched for the products and placed them in the basket, I heard the long unheard voice.
“… Ah? Is that you, Ebato-san?”
The voice came from behind.
It was Shirakawa Sayo-sama, the “princess” of the school, with whom I hadn’t had much contact recently.
”… Yo.”
Honestly, I was surprised because I hadn’t expected to meet anyone outside, so I greeted her unfriendly.
“Good evening. Are you shopping for dinner?”
“Yeah.”
“What is it?~… Mackerel? Can Ebato-san cook?”
Wait, did she think I couldn’t? She was so rude.
“I can’t clean, but I can cook. I thought that today, I could make mackerel boiled in miso soup.”
“That’s surprising. I thought you couldn’t cook because you didn’t have a good complexion.”
“It’s just that I think it’s a hassle to do it, so that’s why I don’t do it.”
I knew it; she thought I couldn’t do it.
But, was I really pale…?
“And what do you have?… hey. Why is your basket mostly filled with side dishes?”
“A-ahaha…”
Come to think of it, her cooking wasn’t good.
“As I said, because I cook my own meals, I’m healthy.”
“Well, I’m only thinking about nutritional balance…”
“Is that so?”
It was so ironic that I even felt sick… tsk.
Well, anyway, the last thing I needed to buy was in front of me: the potatoes.
I said goodbye and lined up at the cash register.
Somehow, today, the supermarket was very crowded.
And then, there was another customer who cut in line right in front of me…
Damn it, it would be unpleasant to flare up at someone, and it would be troublesome to be annoying to someone else.
“… Um, are you okay?”
Sayo came and asked with an uneasy face.
“…What?”
“It just looked like you wanted to say something…”
It was annoying how, for some reason, only Sayo could notice me. When I thought about it, I really didn’t understand her.
“… It’s fine! I’m waiting until it’s my turn.”
“… Is that so?”
She stood in line behind me. After that one person, no one tried to cut in line.
“…I’m sorry.”
“For what? It’s just lining up.”
“…Hmm, that’s right.”
Next was my turn, so I put the basket on the register when I saw that the previous person finished paying. I went ahead to check out.
“… Um, customer. Why don’t you proceed forward?”
The cashier called Sayo instead of me.
“Um, it’s not my turn to check out.”
“E?”
The cashier turned his head in my direction.
Then, he turned back to Sayo and tilted his head in confusion as if there was nothing.
“…Umm!…My. These are my products!”
“E? E!? I-I’m terribly sorry, customer!”
Shit… I was here for the first time in a while, so I forgot this could happen.
Oh well, after that, I finished the checkout and packed the items I bought in the eco-friendly bag.
“You brought an eco-friendly bag with you?”
While saying that, Sayo, who seemed to have finished checking out, approached.
“I have a lot of plastic shopping bags at home, and if I don’t buy them every time, it will be a little cheaper. That’s why I bring an eco-friendly bag every time.”
“That’s thoughtful.”
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while, but don’t you look at me too much as if I’m a useless person.”
To be honest, it was very humiliating.
“That’s from the time when I saw your apartment…”
“This treatment comes just from that. I just don’t know how to clean, that’s all.”
Despite the cursing, I finished packing the bags and carried them. Looking at Sayo, it seems that she made a fair amount of shopping on her own, that even her eco-friendly bag was bulging.
“Give it to me. I’ll carry it.”
“E? It’s alright.”
“Just give it to me.”
It was mostly thanks to Sayo that I was able to complete the checkout. That’s why I promptly returned the favor. I just didn’t say it directly to her…
“Thank you very much,” Sayo said while smiling and bowing her head.
With two eco-friendly bags, I left the store without waiting for Sayo.
