Chapter 15: First Sleepover (1)
Thursday night.
I was sprawled on my bed, finally catching a breath.
My phone buzzed.
Glancing at the screen, a RINE notification.
The sender’s name made my heart skip.
—Towa.
Hesitating, I opened it, and a short, inescapable decree hit me.
Towa: So, from tomorrow night to Sunday night, you’re staying at my place.
(…What?)
No discussion, just a schedule thrust upon me.
Schedule’s too mild a word. It’s like a court verdict.
(Can I even make it back alive?)
I typed a half-joking reply but deleted it.
Cautiously, I sent something safe.
Kazuto: Sorry, I haven’t told my family anything.
Towa’s reply came instantly.
Towa: It’s fine. I already talked to them.
They said, “If you want, just keep him.”
So I said, “Oh, really? Then I won’t hold back.”
You could just live with me.
(…Huh?)
There’s a phrase about cutting off escape routes.
But this isn’t just that—it’s like the castle’s been set ablaze, trapping me inside.
Imagining what’d happen if I refused sent chills down my spine.
A minimal response. That’s the safest bet.
Kazuto: Okay.
Right after sending, another notification pinged.
Towa: Friday, we’ll hit the supermarket for ingredients.
I don’t do “normal food,” so the fridge is empty.
(…“Normal food”? That doesn’t mean she’s eating me, right?)
There’s a pact, so… I just have to trust it.
Kazuto: Okay.
Towa: I’ll pick you up Friday. I’m worried otherwise.
(…No, you don’t need to pick me up. Please don’t!)
I screamed internally, but my fingers typed the bare minimum.
Kazuto: I’m fine.
Towa: I’m coming. 6 p.m.
The short line carried overwhelming pressure.
I could almost hear the sound of my escape routes sealing shut.
(Kazuto: The pressure’s intense… Minimal reply it is…)
Kazuto: Okay.
I sent it and sighed.
Staring at the ceiling.
…Tomorrow’s Friday.
My “weekend” has apparently been decided.
※
Friday, the fateful evening.
—5:30 p.m.
The doorbell chimed clearly.
Ding-dong.
(She’s here… Towa-san, right?)
My throat felt dry as I gripped the doorknob.
Opening it cautiously, I saw—
“Hey, I was worried. Felt lonely, huh?”
“…Wha, Mio-san?”
It was, shockingly, Mio-san. Her sleek hair, poised stance, and a faint sweet perfume tickled my nose.
“Well… yeah, staying at a girl’s place is a first for me…”
“What! You hate it that much? Then run away with me. I’ll take care of you.”
She grabbed me in a tight hug, my heart leaping.
(No, I didn’t say I hated it! We’re at my doorstep! And your scent is making me dizzy!)
“Sorry. It’s my fault for not being strong enough… letting you offer your virtue to a vampire. Even now, we can escape together. I’ve got your bags ready.”
“Escape? Don’t break the pact.”
A chilly voice cut in from behind Mio-san.
—Towa.
“Good thing I came to pick you up, just in case.”
She said it coolly, her profile radiating confidence, almost terrifyingly so.
“Let’s go. Next week’s your turn, Mio, so deal with it. We’re just hanging out. I won’t force anything. I don’t want him to hate me.”
Her tone was calm and measured.
“Hmph… Fine. If anything weird happens, I’ll come flying in.”
Mio-san turned on her heel. On foot today—guess she can’t fly a broom in public.
—And so, I walked side by side with Towa, heading to her apartment.
