The lingering heat of the live performance still hadn’t faded, and we remained in the audience seats. We stared quietly at the empty rows before us.
“So this is what an idol is like. Amazing.”
“Right? I’m speechless.”
“…I have quite an incredible friend.”
“It’s surprising.”
A brief silence followed. Then, it was her who broke it.
“Um… once again, thank you very much for today, for coming with me.”
“I had a great time too. You don’t need to thank me. Let’s come again.”
“And, um… well… I… I love you!!”
“────”
♢
“Huh.”
Here it is again. I had another strange dream. What was that about? Was I nervous because the entrance ceremony was coming up? It was… six o’clock. Then I could sleep a little longer. I went back to sleep.

Chapter 57: The Entrance Ceremony and the Idol
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
After New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, and the graduation ceremony all passed, it was April. Starting today, we were going to begin new days as proud students of Hashiro High School.
“Good morning, Hakkun. The uniform looks great on you.”
“Thanks, Rin-chan!”
“Hehe, I’m looking forward to the new school.”
“I hope I end up in the same class as Hakkun!!”
Of course, on the first day we had promised to go to school together as a group of five. Naturally.
“Hey, Hakkun. I’m going to nail my speech today, so make sure you watch properly, okay?”
“Of course, Rin-neechan.”
Once again, Rin-neechan was the student council president of Hashiro High School and also the student representative. Naturally, at today’s entrance ceremony, she would be giving a speech to the new students as their representative. I had always thought speeches at ceremonies were just long and boring, and that opinion hadn’t really changed. But if someone as important to me as my childhood friend was the one giving it, then that was a different story.
“Do your best, Rin-chan!”
“If it’s Rin-san, she’ll definitely do it.”
“Rin-san, are you okay? Not nervous?”
“Nervous, huh… well, thinking about Hakkun watching me might make me more nervous than any speech I’ve ever given.”
Chatting like that, we walked through streets wrapped in cherry blossoms for a few minutes, and then we arrived at Hashiro High School.
Hashiro High School. It was a fairly large school built decades ago, with Rin-neechan’s grandfather serving as the principal. It seemed to be well-maintained, and neither the school building nor the grounds showed any signs of age. It was a beautiful school. I had chosen it simply because it was close. Also, it matched my academic level the best.
Then, the three of them ended up applying there as if they were following me. As for Haruna, she could have easily aimed for a much higher-level school, but when I asked her, she told me with intense pressure, “A school without Hakkun isn’t worth going to for me. It’s not about academics, it’s about whether Hakkun is there or not.”
After that, the three of them all said in unison that they also wanted to keep an eye on me to make sure I didn’t cheat.
Well, I get it with Muna, she’s my girlfriend after all. But what about Haruna and Misaki?
“The class listings are over there. If you don’t understand anything, contact me.”
“Yeah, got it. Thanks, Rin-neechan.”
“Hehe, you’re welcome.”
After parting with Rin-neechan, we headed to where the class assignments were posted.
Man, this moment always makes my heart race. I really hope I’ll be in the same class as Muna and the others.
“Ah! Yay! Haa-kun, we’re in the same class!”
“I’m in the same class too! We did it, Hakkun!”
“Mii too! I’m in the same class! Hehe, I’m so happy! Now I can keep watching Haa-chan forever!”
In the end, all three of them ended up in the same class as me. That was a relief.
Now then, while I’m at it, I might as well check the other classmates too.
So I looked over the list from a spot where I wouldn’t get in the way. Then, a name caught my attention.
“Hey, Misaki.”
“Yes? What is it? Oh, are you thinking about going out with me—”
“I’m not. Look, right there. This Nonoa Tsurumaki…”
Number nineteen, Nonoa Tsurumaki. If I remembered correctly, that was the name of a friend Misaki had told me about from when she was still living at the facility. It could just be someone with the same name, but still.
“…Non-chan.”
For now, I assumed it was the same Nonoa that Misaki had mentioned. While we were gathered around the class listings, a wave of high-pitched cheers suddenly erupted from the distance. What was all that commotion?
“No way! It’s Nonoa-sama! It really is Nonoa-sama!”
“It’s Nono-tan! This is insane, I might die!!”
When I looked toward the source of the voices, I saw an unmistakably cool and beautiful girl walking toward us, to the point where it almost looked like flowers were scattering with every step she took. She had long, slender legs, a clearly slim figure, and a chest that looked even larger than Muna’s. Her long brown hair reached down to her waist, shimmering as if it had some kind of sparkling effect. Sharp, well-defined eyes and bright purplish-blue irises. She was unbelievably beautiful.
So that… was Nonoa Tsurumaki. Somehow, I felt like I had seen her somewhere before. Even though it should have been my first time seeing her, there was a strange sense of déjà vu.
“That’s Nonoa Tsurumaki, right? From ‘Stella☆Walker.'”
“Stella☆Walker?”
“Hakkun, you’re not interested in idols, right? Stella☆Walker is a super famous idol group that’s all over TV right now. And that girl… Nonoa Tsurumaki is famous enough to be called their unwavering center. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Stella☆Walker became this popular thanks to her and one other member.”
I see, so she was an idol. No wonder she was getting so much attention. I seriously knew nothing about idols, so this was all new to me.
There are so many people swarming around her. That must be tough, Tsurumaki-san.
As I was thinking that and watching, Tsurumaki-san seemed to notice us and started walking in our direction.
“…It’s been a while, Misaki.”
“It has been a while, Non-chan. I’ve always wanted to see you again.”
“I’m glad we ended up in the same class. I look forward to working with you. And you two over there as well. And you too. May I ask your name?”
“I’m Hara Kamitsuru. Nice to meet you. I’ve heard about you from Misaki from time to time.”
The moment I started talking with Tsurumaki-san, jealous stares shot at me from all around in an instant. What? I was just having a normal conversation. Somehow, I had a feeling this was going to become a hassle.
“I see. I’m glad Misaki found a good person. Well then, I’ll see you later.”
Saying only that, Tsurumaki-san walked off toward the school building.
