ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
December 24th. The time was 9:00 AM. I was sitting on a bench in a park near the station. It was the long-awaited day of my date with Muna. Rin-neechan had advised me that for things like this, it was better to arrive about an hour early, so I had been waiting at the meeting spot around that time.
I had properly styled my hair, and I had carefully chosen and put together my outfit. For pants, I was wearing black denim that Rin-neechan had picked out for me. Since I was fairly tall at 175 cm, she said slightly larger-fitting clothes like this made me look cool.
On top, I wore a plain white shirt with a beige sweater, and over that, a black long coat. I also had a navy scarf wrapped around my neck. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very knowledgeable about fashion, so everything had been chosen under Rin-neechan’s guidance. Now then, it was good that I came early, but I was bored. If you asked me whether I had anything to do, the answer would be no. It wasn’t like I was playing any games or anything.
“Ah, Haa-kun! You’re early. Did I keep you waiting?”
“No, I just got here. It’s fine.”
Just as I was wondering what to do, I spotted Muna right away. She was early too. It was still an hour before the date, you know.
“H-Haa-kun! Um… you look really cool.”
“Thanks. You look cute too, Muna. Aren’t you cold?”
“N-no, I’m fine!”
Muna was wearing a slightly short white skirt, a black knit top, and a navy coat over it. She also had on a detective-like hat and glasses, giving her a different vibe than usual. She was incredibly cute. Maybe it was because Rin-neechan had affirmed my feelings yesterday, but my heart was pounding much more than usual.
“I haven’t worn glasses since elementary school… Do they suit me?”
“Yeah, they really do. You look super cute.”
“Hehe, that’s good. I tried going back to my old self for the first time in a while, but I was worried I might look strange.”
“That’s a cute thing to worry about. Anything would suit you, Muna.”
Muna used to wear glasses before. It seemed like she stopped when she entered middle school, but personally, I liked both versions of her. She was really cute either way.
“We ended up meeting pretty early. Should we go already?”
“Hmm… maybe we should talk a bit like this. An hour will pass in no time.”
“Yeah, you’re right. When I’m talking with Haa-kun, time flies by.”
Muna said “here we go,” and sat down next to me. Love was truly terrifying. Just that alone was enough to make my heart race like crazy.
“It’s almost time for high school, huh.”
“Yeah, it is. I hope we end up in the same class there.”
“Yeah. I at least want one familiar face in my class. I don’t want to end up isolated.”
“Even if we’re apart, I’ll come visit you during breaks. I’d get bored otherwise!”
“That would really help.”
Before long, we’d be high school students. Everything would change. I felt a bit of excitement, and also a bit of anxiety. But if Muna and the others were there, it would probably be okay.
“By the way, I heard you went on a date with Rin-chan yesterday.”
“…Yeah. She helped me pick out clothes for today’s date with you.”
“She bragged about it to me a lot.”
“Is she really older than us?”
And then we kept chatting about trivial things. Our recent hobbies, stuff about Haruna and the others. While we were talking, it quickly became 10:00.
“See? Time really flies when I’m talking with you, Haa-kun. Come on, let’s go.”
“Yeah. Let’s go.”
“Huh?”
When it was time, we started walking toward the station. But before I knew it, my hand was holding Muna’s. What was I doing? That was way too creepy all of a sudden.
“S-sorry. I’ll let go right away.”
“No, don’t. Don’t let go.”
“I-is that so?”
I realized immediately and tried to let go, but instead, Muna held my hand tightly with all her strength. What was with this girl? She was way too cute, seriously.
“Your hand is warm, Muna.”
“Haa-kun, yours is just cold.”
“It’s not that cold… whoa, it is cold.”
We exchanged that typical kind of banter as we moved onto the station platform. Needless to say, we were attracting a ton of attention from the people around us. Things like “what a good-looking couple” and so on.
“Did you hear that, Haa-kun? They said we’re a good-looking couple.”
“I heard it clearly. I don’t think I’m that handsome, though.”
“You are, Haa-kun! You’re super handsome.”
“Really? Thanks.”
“Are you blushing?”
I nodded, and Muna smirked a little and giggled. This girl was nothing but cute. Seriously, what was with her? Was she trying to kill me? Kill my self-control? My heart was pounding so much that it felt like even Muna beside me could hear it, and I had no memory at all of what we talked about on the train. Before I knew it, we had already reached our destination.
“All right, we’re here! Let’s have a great day, Haa-kun!”
“Yeah, same here. Looking forward to it, Muna.”

Chapter 52: Cute Fanservice Characters Are Overpowered
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
An amusement park that had only opened last year, still relatively new. But an amusement park was an amusement park, and it was already packed with people from the morning. And since it was Christmas, everywhere you looked, there were couples. It seemed Muna had planned everything, so I would gratefully focus on enjoying myself, making sure she enjoyed it too, and doing my best to look cool.
“There are so many people. We might get separated.”
“Yeah. Don’t let go of my hand.”
“I won’t let go even if I die. Should I smear glue on it?”
“That would be a problem for me, so don’t.”
It was probably meant as a light joke, but with this girl, it felt like she might actually do it, which was scary. Anyway, I followed Muna, and the first thing she chose was the merry-go-round.
“Let’s start with this!”
“A merry-go-round, huh. It’s been a while.”
“Hehe, I really like this. So I want it to be first!”
Back then, I felt like I enjoyed it more for the atmosphere. Riding a Pegasus, going “I’m floating, I’m floating!” and having fun like that. But now, I couldn’t really see what was so great about it. Getting older was kind of scary. Things I used to enjoy, I couldn’t enjoy the same way anymore. In the end, for me, it was kind of empty. But Muna looked like she was having a lot of fun. She really hadn’t changed.
“Hehe, that felt nice!”
“That’s good. Seeing you enjoy it makes me happy too.”
“Then let’s go to the next one!”
Next was the teacups. It was fun, but it was the kind where you inevitably spin too much and get dizzy. Back in third grade, when five of us came together, we overdid it so badly that all of us went down at once. A stupid but memorable episode. Even though it was just the two of us now, both Muna and I had grown a lot compared to back then. Of course, our strength had increased too. So, the probability of not getting knocked out in this state was—
“…We overdid it.”
“Yeah, we got a little too excited. Haa-kun, are you okay? I’m totally fine though!”
Zero percent. The chance of me not going down was zero. Muna, on the other hand, was as energetic as ever. I guess she had a tolerance for this kind of thing. On the way, those two divine objects of hers kept bumping into my head multiple times. Every time, I thought I might die. And even when they didn’t hit me, they still moved, so my eyes were naturally drawn to them.
In short, the reason I went down was simple: motion sickness, and also getting overly excited. Even I thought it was ridiculously pathetic. She didn’t notice… right?
“Haa-kun, what would you do if I said it was on purpose?”
“So it was on purpose!? And don’t read my mind!”
“Hehe, I was happy. I realized that Haa-kun really is a boy. Also, you know, it’s easier to notice when someone is looking at your chest than you think. You pervert, you.”
She noticed. And it was on purpose. What was this? Were all my childhood friends just devilish little angels? Of course I’d get flustered.
Don’t underestimate boys! Ah, man, I really like her! Now that I’ve realized it, it’s so clear! I like her so much!! When am I even supposed to confess!? Damn it!
“If you say that, wouldn’t that make you the pervert for pressing them against me?”
“It’s fine. I’m aware that I’m a pervert. Only toward you, though.”
“What does that even mean?”
“Well, who knows. Do you dislike girls who act like this?”
“I d—don’t dislike it.”
That was close. I almost said “I like you” by momentum. And seriously, the way Muna said things was unfair. She was the same age as me, right? There was no way I wouldn’t get flustered when she said “only toward you.”
“Then shall we go to the haunted house next?”
“What do you mean ‘then’? You’re definitely plotting something again, aren’t you?”
“Hehe, what are you talking about?”
She played dumb. From the flow of the conversation, it sounded like she was planning to press her chest against me again in the haunted house, and I seriously wanted her to stop. I might actually die. No, seriously. Come to think of it, I heard the haunted house here was really scary. And Muna wasn’t good with scary things. So then…
“Haa-kun! Haa-kun! No, no! Don’t let go! I can’t, I can’t! I’m scared!!”
“I’m right here, so it’s fine.”
“I know, but still—kyaa!?”
Yeah, it turned out like this. I knew it. A genuinely cute and seductive character was the most overpowered of all. Seriously, what was with this girl? She was trembling and clinging tightly to my arm. She was so cute it was almost infuriating.
“Muna, I can see the exit. It’s okay now.”
“R-really? But there’s still something—see, I knew it! That’s so mean! Seriously! Why is this so scary!? Waaah!!”
“Hey, wait a second!”
She had completely regressed into a child and ran crying all the way to the exit. Uh, well. I should probably go after her.
“Um, excuse me. My companion…”
Before that, I gave a quick apology to the haunted house staff.

“…Ugh, this isn’t how I planned it. I was supposed to be more seductive.”
“But for me, it was great. I got to see a lot of cute sides of you.”
After that, I quickly caught up with Muna, and we decided to have lunch at a restaurant inside the park.
