ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Nonoa grabbed the mic, queued up a song, and started singing with full energy. The song was… something I’d been hearing a lot lately in short videos. Even so, she was incredible. What an amazing voice. I couldn’t help but get drawn in. Her falsetto was beautiful, her voice resonated clearly, and there was a certain strength to it. She was good. I had never heard someone this good before.
“Kyaha, that’s about it, right?”
“You’re amazing, Nonoa! That was super good!”
“Really? Thanks, thanks.”
“I mean it. Even pros would have a hard time beating that.”
“Haracchi, you’re praising me too much, you!”
Singing, huh. No one had ever told me I was bad, but no one had ever said I was great either. Personally, I thought I was a bit on the weaker side. Especially after hearing Nonoa, mine would probably pale in comparison.
I stood up, took the mic, and sang something casually. As for the song… I didn’t know what to pick, so I just chose a random trending one. When I finished, Nonoa gave me a huge round of applause.
“That was amazing! Haracchi, you’re really good too! Hey, wanna do a duet with me?”
“A duet? I’d probably just get in your way.”
“No way, no way! I wanna sing with you, Haracchi… is that a no?”
“Ugh.”
As she said that, Nonoa grabbed my hand and looked up at me. It caught me off guard.
What the!? Isn’t she way too close!? Is this just how gyarus are…? More importantly, this is bad… her chest…!
“Ahh, Haracchi, you just looked at my chest, didn’t you?”
“I didn’t.”
“You’re terrible at playing dumb!”
In the end, I ended up singing with Nonoa. And somehow, our voices matched really well. For the first time ever, I got a perfect score. Nonoa let out a voice like she was about to faint from excitement, then grabbed my shoulders and shook me hard to express her joy.
“Look, look, Haracchi, it’s a perfect score!! I’ve never gotten this before!!”
“Okay, okay! I get that you’re happy, but stop shaking me!”
“But still! I always thought it was something you could never actually get!”
So she could get this happy just from me singing, huh. That made me happy too. And I really enjoyed singing. Honestly, when was the last time I had this much fun singing?
“Hehe, thanks! I’m gonna brag about this on Minsta~♪”
After that, we just kept singing nonstop, and before I knew it, it was already 3 PM. It was about time to leave.
“Let’s head back soon, Nonoa. School’s about to end.”
“Mm, okay! Let’s go after this last song.”
We left the karaoke place. It all went by so fast. What remained in my chest was a clear, refreshing feeling. She did say we were changing plans. Was this her intention all along?
“Hey, Nonoa. What kind of person is Hanado-san, from your perspective?”
On the way back, I asked her that.
Well… the person in front of me is Misaki Hanado herself, though.
“Huh? What’s with that all of a sudden? Hmm, Misaki from my perspective… She’s a really kind person. The kind who quietly reaches out a hand when someone’s in trouble. But she tends to sacrifice herself a bit too much, so I worry about her. And also… she really, really, really loves you, Haracchi!”
Kind, self-sacrificing, and really loves me, huh. I’m not doubting her, but what Nonoa said might actually be true about being threatened and unable to help me.
“No matter where she is or what she’s doing, it’s always Haracchi this, Haracchi that! Seriously, she likes you a lot.”
“Now you’re just exaggerating.”
“I’m not! Misaki says that thanks to you, she learned how to smile again. That she feels like it’s okay for her to keep living.”
“What did I even do to deserve that…”
“Alright, I’ll tell you just a tiny part. Just a piece of Misaki’s secret. So tell me what you think after hearing it.”
A secret about Misaki. Maybe this could trigger something I’d forgotten—
“Misaki, you see… because of various things, when she was little, she killed her own parents.”
It did. That shocking secret pulled up certain words in my mind. Words I had heard a lot before.
“Parent killer.” “Murderer.” “Stay away.” “You’ll get killed.”
A wave of disgust suddenly surged up. It was far stronger than the anger I felt toward Muna and the others right before I jumped.
“What do you think? Do you think it’s scary? Do you think she’ll kill you?”
“First, I want to know the reason. Whether I accept or condemn it comes after that.”
“I see. Yeah, you’re really kind, Haracchi. No one ever asked Misaki for the reason. She’s always been treated like something untouchable just for the act of ‘killing her parents.’”
“That’s horrible.”
Misaki Hanado. I felt something very similar. Being tormented by rumors. No one trying to hear the truth, just believing the rumors and pushing her away, looking down on her. Was the kind girl Nonoa described really someone who abandoned me? I was curious. What exactly had she been threatened with?
“Imagine being saved while you’re in that kind of state. What do you think happens? Of course she’d fall for you. So don’t look down on yourself too much. Don’t deny the feelings of the girls who like you.”
“…Got it. Thanks, Nonoa. You helped me a lot today.”
“Glad to hear it. Anyway, I’m heading this way. Good luck with your talk!”
We parted ways at a crossroads. My heart was still burning a little. I took out my phone and sent a message to Muna, Haruna, and Rin-nee.
『hara: I’m really sorry about today. There’s something I want to talk about tomorrow. Can you come to the back of the school after class?』
『e: Yeah, I understand.』
Muna replied almost instantly. Rin-nee and Haruna read the message, but they didn’t reply.
