My Little Sister Suddenly Confessed to Me, but What Am I Supposed to Do by Dating My Little Sister? - Chapter 69 & 70 & 71
Chapter 69: The Sea Closest to Heaven
For a while, no one said a word. Truly, on this island, you lose all sense of the flow of time. It’s the same whether you’re looking at the sea or the stars.
I felt like I wanted to keep staring like this forever.
However, eventually, physical limits are reached.
“Mmm… my neck…”
I snapped out of it when Michiru started groaning. If you stare straight up for that long, of course it’s going to hurt.
“As much as it pains us to leave, shall we head back?”
I proposed the end of our stargazing while rolling my neck to ease the pain. A slightly relieved atmosphere followed; I guess everyone was feeling the strain.
The four of us headed back to the inn.
No one brought up the confessions from earlier. In front of me, the three girls chatted harmoniously about tomorrow’s plans.
Was it all a dream? But when I look up even now, that same incredible starry sky is still spread out above us.
Why me…?
I don’t even understand why my sister fell for me, and now these two as well…
My head was in much more of a muddle than it had been when Shiori first confessed to me.
However, that confusion was blown away the moment we entered the room!
“Eh? Ah, well, I guess so… but… are we really sleeping like this?”
Inside the room, four futons were neatly lined up in a row.
“Okay, so Onii-chan is on the far end, and I’m next to him, right?”
Ah—well, I guess that’s the only way. Still, being in the same room after those confessions makes me so nervous…
“Th-that’s unfair, Shiori-kun! L-let’s decide with Rock-Paper-Scissors!!”
M-Michiru-san, there was a definite “it can’t be helped” vibe flowing through the room just now, wasn’t there? Me, Shiori, and Asami all felt that way, didn’t we?
“Ehhhh, I don’t think that’s right. After all, Onii-chan and I are used to this—we even slept together yesterday.”
Sh-Shiori-san, please stop provoking them.
“Y-you said ‘together,’ but the beds were separate! Today they are literally side-by-side!”
See, now Michiru-san is getting worked up…
“Ehhhh, but we slept in the same bed yesterday, didn’t we, Onii-chan?”
“Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh?!”
“Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh?!”
Ah, she said it. My sister has completely ignited her competitive spirit…
My head started to ache. What happened to that beautiful atmosphere from before?
“I thinkkk… no matter how you look at itrr… that’s not okayrr~”
“Th-that’s right! No matter if you’re siblings, that’s out of bounds!”
Yes, you are absolutely correct.
The two of them looked at me, taking a stance of firm protest.
“Ehhhh, it’s not Onii-chan’s fault. I’m the one who asked. Onii-chan listens to whatever I ask of him~~”
She cupped her cheeks with both hands, blushing and shaking her head as if to say “oh stop it.”
“No, I don’t listen to anything. Only things I can listen to… I do…”
“Wellll, I guess it’s Rock-Paper-Scissors thennn. I’ll agreeee with Michiru-channn. By majority voterrr, it’s Rock-Paper-Scissorsrr.”
“Wait, I also oppose Rock-Paper-Scissors, though…”
“The person of interest has no voting power! Therefore, the motion passes by majority vote!”
Michiru pointed at me with an “Objection!” pose.
“What is this tyranny…? What country is this…? I’m going to give you a weird undercut haircut, Michiru…”
“It’s okay, Onii-chan. At the very least, I’ll be the one next to you.”
She gave a thumbs-up, full of confidence as if telling me not to worry. Eh, what is with this sister? Is she even strong at Rock-Paper-Scissors? If even her luck is that strong, isn’t she truly invincible?
“ALRIIIIIIIGHT, HERE WE GOOOO!!!”
Michiru was incredibly fired up!
“Rock, paper, scissors, SHOOT!!”
“Sniff, sniff… waaaaaah… Onii-channn!“
My sister is still crying…
After a grueling 36 rounds of Rock-Paper-Scissors and an epic series of draws, the sleeping order was decided.
From the door side: Michiru, Me, Asami, and Shiori…
“Ugh, I can’t sleep.”
I was staring at the ceiling, but the two people on either side of me were staring at me. Moreover, the futons were almost touching, so they were close…
From the other side of Asami, I could hear my sister’s sobbing…
“Onii-channnnnn! Onii-channnnnn!”
“Yes, yes, I’m here. I’m right nearby.”
I guess even my incredible sister can’t beat luck…
I glanced to the left, and a bright-red Michiru was staring intently at me.
I glanced to the right, and Asami was looking at me with a full-faced smile, her eyes narrowed like a sleeping cat.
“Ugh, how am I supposed to sleep?! I mean, I barely got any sleep yesterday because of my sister either!!!”
“Yuuu… can I hold your handrr? …OWWWWWWWWW!”
Presumably, a kick from my sister had landed from behind…
“Unfair! Then I’ll also… GYAAAAAH!”
A pillow flew over me. It landed directly on Michiru’s face. What incredible accuracy…
“Shiori-channn, don’t kick merrr, it hurtsss. I was just kiddingrr.”
“That hurt! I’m not giving your pillow back!!”
“Onii-channnnnn! Onii-channnnnn!”
“Ah, enough! I don’t care, I’m sleeping! I’m going to sleep even if it kills me!!! Goodnight!”
It was a four-person room that lacked even a shred of romance…
Chapter 70: The Sea Closest to Heaven
“Guehh!!”
I woke up to a sound like a crushed toad…
It seemed Michiru had been clinging to me in her sleep, and seeing that, my sister had delivered an elbow drop to her.
The commotion from their “women’s wrestling match” woke Asami as well. After calming the two down and preparing to leave, we headed to the dining hall.
We had breakfast and intended to catch the morning boat back, but the inn’s proprietress had called the port. She told us the waves were calm today so it should be fine, and suggested we take a bike tour around the island. Since we were here, we decided to rent bicycles and head out together.
We left our luggage behind and headed for the island’s main attraction: the southernmost point.
After passing between several stone walls of the houses, the path suddenly turned into a rural road through fields and meadows. Surprisingly, it was well-paved and easy to cycle on. The roads were quite narrow, but since almost no cars were driving, there were no problems at all.
“Eh? What are these stacked stones?”
Michiru pointed to a massive object made of large stones piled into a cylindrical shape.
“Thattt is a Kōtomorirr,” Asami said, reading from the guidebook she’d brought. “It says it was used for monitoring the seaaa or raising signal firesss… but I don’t really get itrr.”
The explanation was a bit vague; I’ll have to look it up on a wiki later…
“Can you see the sea? Let’s climb it and look.”
There were stairs built in to make it easy to climb. Though it was just made of piled stones, it was quite well-constructed.
“Aah… yeah, well, I guess you can see it.”
The beautiful sea was visible in the distance, but it felt a bit far for “monitoring”… People in the old days must have had incredible eyesight. It wasn’t very high, but since there were no tall buildings around, you could indeed see quite far. Though all you could see were the distant sea and fields…
Leaving the Kōtomori, we headed for the southernmost point.
We cycled down a consistently narrow path, but to be honest, there was nothing there. Probably just sugarcane fields. I say “probably” because I can’t tell what they are if they haven’t grown yet. They also cultivate purple sweet potatoes, so it might have been those, but I couldn’t tell at a glance.
And then there were the goats, just like yesterday. Today, we saw them everywhere. Even my sister didn’t make a fuss about “It’s a goat!” anymore.
“Why are some tied up and others are loose?”
Instead of making a fuss, she asked a simple question. There were some wandering aimlessly, some tied to the corner of a field, and others sleeping in the shade.
“Who knows?”
“Apparently, they eat themrr.”
“Eeeeeh! They eat them?”
“Since it has a strong smellll, we might not find it very tastyrr, but the people on the island eat it for celebrationsss.”
“Heeh, I’ve heard of goat soup (yagi-jiru). I wonder if Heidi ate it too?”
“That grandfather of hers looks like he could butcher one…”
And so, we arrived at the southernmost point.
“Ooh! Right now, we are the four people at the southernmost tip of Japan. That’s kind of amazing.”
Michiru’s comment made me realize that, unless someone was at Okinotorishima for research, the four of us were currently the southernmost people on solid land.
“Alright, let’s take a commemorative photo.”
Feeling a bit excited, I used a nearby rock as a tripod and we took a photo in front of the “Southernmost Point of Japan” monument. All three of them clung to me. I felt something hitting me… and hitting me… and hitting me?
After the photo, my sister pointed at something. “By the way, what’s this?”
On the way here, I’d been more curious about a stone-paved path than the monument itself.
“Umm… that’s the ‘Snake Path,’ made of stones gathered from all over the countryrr.”
“Why is something like that here?”
“Who knows?”
Truly, the place is full of mysteries.
“What’s that over there?” Shiori pointed into the distance again.
“Thattt is the starry sky observatoryrr,” Asami said, having fully embraced the role of guide.
“It has a telescopeee.”
“Heeh, shall we go?”
“No, there’s no point going during the day.”
(Actually, they have photos and such on display, so it isn’t entirely pointless).
“We should head back soon, or we’ll miss the final boat. Let’s go.”
There are only three trips a day. Remembering yesterday, we had decided to take the midday departure.
On the way back, we cycled along a fairly wide road that circles the island. For such a small island, the road was excessively wide, even having a sidewalk in some places… I felt like it was totally unnecessary for the amount of traffic, and parts of the sidewalk were already overgrown with weeds all the way to the edge.
Well, ignoring the glimpses of “adult circumstances,” we returned to the inn.
We passed an airfield on the way, but apparently, that too is rarely used due to adult circumstances… (though there are rumors of flights resuming soon…)
The staff from a neighboring inn gave us a ride to the port along with some other guests, so we arrived with plenty of time. We thanked and said goodbye to the inn staff, entered the terminal, successfully bought our tickets, and headed for Ishigaki.
“Uuuuugh… I feel sickkkk…”
“Onii-chan, the way back is like a roller coaster too! This is fun!”
“……………”
They said it was calm today, but there were still quite a few waves.
I was worried about Michiru’s potential “counterattack,” but my biggest concern was Asami…
“You seeee, when something bad happensss, I have a special skill where I can lose consciousnessss… Buttt, if I use this skill too muchrr, I might not come backkk…”
I recalled what she’d said on the way here…
Please, come back to us safely, Asamiiii!
Chapter 71: A Night in Ishigaki
Are you okay?”
“Hmm… maybe?”
We arrived at Ishigaki Port. Asami had successfully returned to the world of the living, but the moment we disembarked, Michiru sprinted toward the restroom.
Shiori and Asami went to look after her, but Shiori came back out shortly after, saying two people weren’t needed in the stall.
Obviously, I couldn’t go in…
“It didn’t feel as shaky as yesterday, though.”
“I think she was just exhausted. You fell asleep, Onii-chan, but she was groaning in her sleep last night…”
“Hmm.”
Is that why she was clinging to me?
“Ah, they’re out.”
Michiru emerged from the restroom, walking unsteadily while leaning on Asami.
“S-sorry… I’m okay now…”
Michiru raised her hand to check in with us, though her voice and complexion suggested she was anything but “okay.”
“Don’t push yourself. We’re taking a taxi to the hotel, so just rest in the room.”
“No, I’m fine. We’re going home tomorrow… I’m not… wasting… ugh.”
“No. Michiru, you’re sleeping until dinner.”
“Uuuu, so unfair. You guys are just gonna go play without me…”
“It’s not fun to play while you’re sick, Michiru. We’ll just relax in the room.”
“That’s no good. It’s a waste to do that just for me.”
Michiru protested while still clinging to Asami.
“Seriously, which is it?”
“Just let me say that much! Anyway, play without worrying about me. I’ll join you as soon as I recover.”
With that, we all piled into a taxi.
It was a midday boat, but because of Michiru’s “counterattack” (seasickness), quite a bit of time had passed.
Considering she would join us later, we were limited to staying within the hotel grounds.
Back at the hotel, we sat the dizzy Michiru down on a sofa, and Asami spoke to us.
“I can’t leave Michiru-chan alone in the roommm… so I’ll stay with herrr. You two go play at the beachrr.”
Saying that, Asami headed back to the room with Michiru.
“What should we do, Onii-chan?”
“Hmm, I’m a bit tired too. I think I’ll just rest in the room.”
“Then me too—”
“Shiori, you can go for a swim if you want.”
“Ehhhh, I don’t want to go unless it’s with you. Besides, I’m scared of being hit on if I’m alone.”
She had a point; I’d be worried about her.
Still, it felt like a waste to stay cooped up in the room when it wasn’t even evening yet.
“Oh, this looks good. Shiori, let’s get some shaved ice.”
“Ehh—oh, that looks delicious! Let’s go! Yay!”
We headed to the “pool bar” mentioned in the hotel guide.
It wasn’t a place for billiards, but a bar by the poolside where you could order light snacks and drinks.
“Delicious! So cooold!”
Shiori had shaved ice topped with mango, and I enjoyed the tropical mood with a pineapple fruit juice.
“By the way, when is Mom’s vacation this year?”
As usual, I’m never given information about our parents directly.
“Umm, I heard it’s right at the start of August.”
Shiori offered me a spoonful of her shaved ice, asking if I wanted some.
“Wait, that’s really soon.”
I ate it, having grown accustomed to the “say ahh” treatment. So cold.
“Yeah. She said she already bought the tickets for Nagano.”
Shiori happily took the spoon back into her mouth.
Stop that, it makes my heart race…
“Huh? I haven’t heard anything about this.”
My mother’s family home is in Nagano Prefecture.
We return there every year, though Shiori and I didn’t go last year because of our entrance exams.
“Grandma said you have to come this year so she can celebrate your enrollment! So you’re going too, Onii-chan!”
Shiori was smiling, but I felt a certain intensity in her spirit. What was that about?
“So, right after we get home, we’re off to Nagano? That’s a busy schedule.”
I just want to stay home and read a book in peace…
After enjoying a brief “date-like” atmosphere by the pool, we returned to the room.
“I’m going to take a bath. Want to join me, Onii-chan?”
“Not happening. Have a nice soak.”
Shiori disappeared into the bathroom.
Since the sound of the shower was making me restless, I stepped out onto the balcony to look outside.
The sea of Ishigaki, the hotel pool, the green trees—a beautiful landscape spread out before me.
Bathed in the sunset, the hues of blue, orange, and green were as captivating as a painting.
It didn’t quite reach the level of Hateruma Island, but it still felt like being in another world.
“Hateruma, huh…”
I recalled that night.
The sudden confessions from the three of them.
I knew about Shiori, but I never dreamed the other two liked me.
Shiori—though we’re blood-related—is the person I love most right now.
Her beautiful black hair, those slightly upturned but lovely large eyes, and the fact that she loves me so much…
She is incredibly precious to me.
I just don’t know yet if this is truly “sibling love” or something else…
Michiru is a bit of an airhead but full of energy and incredibly charming.
Silver hair, pale skin—an ethereal beauty that makes her look like a fairy.
She’s been my partner since we were kids. I thought we were just best friends, but I never expected…
Asami was always alone in middle school. She had the same “scent” as me.
I felt she was locking herself in her shell because she thought her way of speaking would bother others.
But this trip proved that the current Asami is likely her true self.
She’s caring, thoughtful, and has the strength to lead everyone.
She’s cute and has the best figure of the three.
She’s a good cook and would probably make a great wife. The current Asami is incredibly attractive.
Then there’s me. I have no redeeming qualities.
I used to call myself “average,” but maybe I’m below average?
Why would these three beautiful girls fall for a guy like me?
“It makes absolutely no sense.”
This isn’t a light novel. Why, upon becoming a high schooler, did three beautiful girls suddenly fall in love with me?
As I gazed at the beautiful scenery, those thoughts raced through my mind.
