My Little Sister Suddenly Confessed to Me, but What Am I Supposed to Do by Dating My Little Sister? - Chapter 66 & 67 & 68
Chapter 66: The Sea Closest to Heaven
Walking along the coastline, we arrived at a beach called Pei Beach.
To put it bluntly, there was no one there. The name is a bit strange, but because it’s connected to Nishihama, it is every bit as beautiful. While you can see other islands from Nishihama, at Pei Beach you see nothing but the horizon…
For a while, the four of us lost our voices at the sight of that scenery.
I felt like I could just stare at it forever, but Asami broke the silence and called out to everyone.
“Wellll, shall we play on the beachrr?”
Her tone suggested that while spacing out was nice, she really wanted to get into that beautiful water.
“Tadaaa! Onii-chan, how do I look?”
Following Michiru’s lead, my sister also shed her shirt and skirt to reveal her swimsuit. It was a marine-bordered halter-neck bikini in blue and white, with a high-leg cut that made her legs look incredibly long.
“Look, it’s the striped pattern you like, Onii-chan~”
She swept her hair up with both hands and twisted her waist in a cliché pose.
“Why is it decided that I like striped patterns? Well, you do look cute, though.”
“Ehehehe! Yay!”
“I’m jealousss… everyone is so slimmrr.”
Saying that, Asami undressed to reveal a colorful floral one-piece. However, the neckline was cut so low that she looked like she was about to spill out… Sasuga, Asami!
Wait, come to think of it—I looked around…
“…”
Michiru was sulking…
She was hugging her knees under the shade of a tree. It was a bit funny, so I decided to leave her be.
“Alrighttt, now that everyone has shown Yuuu, let’s put our T-shirts onrr.”
Asami, who had just undressed, said something unexpected.
“Eh? Why?”
“Listen, Shiori-channn. The sunlight here is intenserr. If you stay under the sun in just a swimsuittt, you’ll get burnedrr.”
She pulled sunscreen out of her bag.
“You should apply this firsttt. Shiori-chan, Michiru-chan… and Yuu, please apply it to everyone’s backsss.”
She handed the bottle of sunscreen to me. Eh? I’m the one applying it?
“Yeahhh. I’ll be busy laying out the leisure sheet and stuffrr, so start with Michiru-chan, since she undressed firsttt.”
“Eh!!! I-I-I’m fine! I want to get a tan anyway!”
“You can’t do thattt. With skin that whiteee, if you get a sunburrrr… you won’t be able to move tomorrowww.”
Michiru stared at me, her face bright red. Then, my sister stepped in front of me.
“Michiru-chan said she’s fine. Here, apply it to me, Onii-chan.”
She turned her back to me.
“Th-that’s unfair, Shiori-kun! Fine, I’ll have it applied! Come on, Yuu! Just put it on! Just do it quickly!!”
Just do it quickly? Who asks for a favor like that!
Michiru turned her back to me. I wondered why I had to do this, but her white back and the red strings of her bikini were a vivid, alluring contrast. I could already see her shoulders turning slightly pink.
“What’s wrong? Hurry up and apply it!”
“Alright, excuse me then.”
I put the lotion on my hand and tentatively reached for Michiru’s back…
“Fuwah… ah… ann… ya…”
A girl-like, erotic voice came from Michiru, who usually spoke with boyish mannerisms…
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoaaaaa!”
Stop it! My heart is pounding out of my chest!
“Shiori! I can’t do this! Here! You finish it!!!”
I handed the cream to my sister and ran toward Asami.
“Eeeeeeeeeeeh?!”
“Eeeeeeeeeeeh?!”
Michiru and my sister shouted in frustration simultaneously, but I couldn’t handle it! Sorry for being a coward.
Ignoring their cries, I went to help Asami, who was laying out a leisure sheet in the shade a short distance away.
“Asami, let me help.”
“Are you finished applying itrr? I’m almost done herrr, so it’s okayyy.”
Saying that, Asami finished spreading the sheet and sat down. I sat next to her and looked back at my sister and Michiru. My sister was smear-painting the cream onto Michiru’s back while Michiru complained about her technique.
“Asami, you’re surprisingly domestic. Taking care of everyone and researching things… I’ve gained a new respect for you.”
“Eh… that’s not trueee. I’m the one who invited everyoneee, so it’s only naturalrr.”
“But, Asami, you used to be so… timid. The current Asami feels more confident, and it’s nice!”
“Hmm… if that’s the caserrr, it’s thanks to you, Yuuu.”
She looked at me and laughed. Her eyes narrowed so much they almost disappeared; it was a smile that made her look less like a tanuki and more like a kitten purring after being petted. I instinctively reached out and stroked her head.
“Fueeeee!”
Asami let out a strange shriek, snapping me back to reality. I hurriedly pulled my hand away, missing the silky sensation of her hair.
“Ah! Sorry! I… I just…”
“Ah, no, I didn’t hate itrr… I was just surprisedrr.”
Asami hung her head, blushing deeply.
“S-sorry.”
Just as I apologized again, I noticed it. An incredible, murderous intent.
“Onii-chan… what do you think you’re doing?”
Uh, Shiori-san, what region did you say you were from?
“Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!”
Um, Michiru-san, why are you so angry?
“No, well, this was just… ah, I have to apply sunscreen too. Um, Shiori-san or Michiru-san, could you apply it… IT HURTS!!!”
The sunscreen was hurled at my face with full force.
Nice ball. My sister’s control was perfect…
Chapter 67: The Sea Closest to Heaven
“It’s so beautifulll…”
“It really isss…”
“It’s so quiettt…”
“I’m hungryrr…”
After a round of profuse apologies to Asami—and for some reason, to my sister and Michiru as well—I was finally forgiven. I mean, why did touching Asami’s head result in such a terrifying level of anger?
At any rate, after a classic round of frolicking and splashing each other with water on the shore, we were now just spacing out and staring at the sea. Everyone’s speech patterns had regressed into Asami’s slow tempo, making it hard to tell who was who—though that last one was definitely Michiru.
“I’ve completely lost track of time. What time is it now?”
I didn’t even feel like looking at my phone. I felt like I could stay here forever.
“Umm… it’s past 2:00 PMrr.”
“What time was the return boat again?”
“It’s at 3:30 PMrr.”
“So when that cloud reaches over there, we have to leave? I don’t want to gooo.”
“I knowww.”
“I’m so hungry…”
“As much as it pains us to leave, shall we go? I think there were places to eat near the port.”
“I want sōki soba!”
Man, Michiru is becoming more and more of a ‘disappointing’ character… Speaking of which, I wonder if that “disappointing” Higashide guy is still alive? Well, I don’t actually care.
We started walking back toward the ferry and high-speed boat terminal.
“In the end, we came all this way and did nothing but look at the sea, but I guess that’s enough.”
“I heard the stars are amazing here. Let’s come back just the two of us next time, Onii-chan.”
“I wonder if they have large-size sōki soba?”
We arrived at the terminal, and Asami went to buy the tickets. There was still over 30 minutes left. I was thinking that while eating was fine, Michiru probably shouldn’t eat much considering the rocking on the way back, when Asami returned looking incredibly awkward.
“Umm… I’m sorryrr. We can’t go backkk.”
She was likely panicking inside, but her tone remained as unhurried as ever as she said something completely nonsensical.
“We can’t go back?”
What? Were the tickets sold out? There weren’t even that many people here. I asked her why.
“Wellll, the waves are too high, so the service is cancelledrr.”
“Cancelled?!”
“Yeahhh. Sorryrr. They just told merrr, but apparently, the cancellation rate for this Hateruma route can exceed 50 percent sometimesrr.”
“50 percent?!”
50 percent is half! What kind of route cancels half the time? Ah, I guess that explains why the ride over was so rough.
“Wellll, the average is about 30 percentrr. So tomorrow might be okayyy.”
“30 percent is still a lot! More importantly, what do we do today? Is there no other way back?”
“There used to be planes, but not anymoreee. There are no more ferries today either, so we have to stay the nightrr.”
“For nowww, there are places to stay in the center of the island, so let’s head therrre.”
For the record, the temperature was high and there are no habu snakes on Hateruma, so we could have slept outside if we had to, but apparently barbecuing and open-air camping are prohibited on the island.
Nothing for it; I guess we’re sightseeing after all. Just as I turned to the others to leave, I realized Michiru was gone.
“Wait, where’s Michiru?”
My sister pointed her finger.
“Michiru…”
Apparently, she couldn’t wait. Michiru was slurping sōki soba all by herself, waving at us. Seriously, has her character completely changed? (My sincerest apologies).
It wasn’t the time for it, but “you can’t fight on an empty stomach,” so we joined Michiru for a late lunch.
“Why don’t we call around instead of walking there?” Michiru finally made a high-spec, student-like suggestion. Incredible, Michiru! You can do it when you try!
I looked things up on my smartphone and started calling, but because of the cancellations, there weren’t many places that could take four people. I thought we might have to stay in separate locations, but for some reason, Michiru was vehemently against that.
I mean, if you hadn’t stopped to eat, we might have found a place sooner! I thought that, but I was hungry too, and honestly, I was worried about staying in separate places.
After several calls, we found an inn that said, “If you don’t mind sleeping all together on the floor, we have space.”
I thought a four-person shared room was a bit “bad,” but for some reason, the other three were totally on board. I mean, there’s no way I could do anything to the other two with my sister right there, but the feeling that I’m not even seen as a “man” by them kind of hurts…
My phone’s map said it would take about 20 minutes, so we walked leisurely, sightseeing along the way. The flow of time here really suited Asami. This sense of calm is exactly why I feel so relaxed talking to her.
As we walked, we saw sugarcane fields and, surprisingly, goats roaming free.
“Kyahh! It’s a goat! Meeeeeeh!”
My sister frolicked around, while Michiru looked a bit spooked.
As we neared the center of the island, the number of houses increased. Even so, it wasn’t a “town” so much as a village—a truly rural one at that.
Still, even on a small island, there was a school and a post office. Many houses were surrounded by stone walls; I imagine the typhoons here must be incredible.
Finally, we arrived at our accommodation: [The Star Inn] (This story is fiction; this inn does not exist).
The proprietress gave us a suspicious look—four high schoolers, including one boy—but I showed her the student handbooks we’d brought for the student discount and emphasized the “sibling” connection. My sister declared with bizarre intensity, “Since he’s with his sister, I won’t let my brother do anything scandalous!!!”
Am I really that much of a dangerous person…?
“Siblings? Your sister is so cute! It’s a good thing she doesn’t look like her brother,” the lady said, giving me the usual comment as we headed to our room.
Dammit, I’m going to leave a bad review… Writing: 1, Story: 2… Oh! Wait, that’s a ‘Narou’ review. Title: My Sister…? Story is a 1, too.
Whoops, I lost consciousness for a second there. Must be fatigue. (I almost accidentally deleted the protagonist…)
The room was a traditional tatami room, like an old-fashioned Japanese inn. Two futons were folded in the corner, and the lady told us she’d bring two more later.
“Firstrr… we have to take a bathrr.”
Since we’d played on the beach, we were covered in sand and salt.
There was only one bath, and it was meant to be used in rotation. Since it was still early, she said we could use it now, so the three girls headed off to the bath.
As I saw them off, I stayed behind and stared at the room, thinking from the bottom of my heart what a waste it was to lose a night at that luxury hotel in Ishigaki.
Chapter 68: The Sea Closest to Heaven
“It was a good thing we were wearing our swimsuitsss.”
Because they had been wearing their swimsuits under their clothes, they had a spare set to change into. After bathing, the four of them gathered in the dining hall.
Despite the last-minute stay, the inn provided dinner for us. The fish dishes were delicious.
Apparently, you can drink a famous and rare shōchū here called Awanami, but since we are high schoolers, we unfortunately couldn’t have any.
Some of the other guests were clearly there specifically for the alcohol and were getting quite rowdy. With three beauties in our group, I was worried they might harass us, but the proprietress barked at them, “These are high schoolers, don’t you dare bother them!” So far, we’ve been left in peace.
I ate my meal with a mix of slight lingering anxiety and a significant amount of pride.
“This fried fish is delicious.”
“They said it was fried gurukunrr.”
“Gurukun?”
My sister said it was good, Asami answered, and I asked for clarification. Michiru was eating as if possessed—Michiru, didn’t you just eat a large bowl of sōki soba earlier…?
“Gurukun isss… a fish that looks like a tropical fishrr.”
“Whoa, it’s bright red. Is it drunk?”
“Maybe it drank some Awanamirr.”
When I looked up an image on my phone, it looked a bit like a mackerel, but its eyes and scales were red. It really did look like it was intoxicated.
We also had Agu pork and jīmāmi tofu (peanut tofu), which were all very tasty.
When night fell, we were told to go see the stars, so we went for a walk. Apparently, there is a starry sky observatory on the opposite side of the island’s port. The inn usually runs tours there, but unfortunately, they couldn’t take us tonight due to a car issue.
However, we were told it was beautiful from anywhere, so the four of us went out to look at the sky.
“Ueegh… it’s sweet, but it tastes like grass.”
Michiru was gnawing on a piece of sugarcane someone had given her.
“Ah, but it really is sweet.”
“Yeah, here.”
She handed me the sugarcane stalk, complete with her teeth marks.
“It looks like bamboo.”
When I bit into it, it was indeed sweet.
“You’re right. Ueegh… grassy.”
“See?”
Wait, didn’t I just share an indirect kiss with Michiru? I mean, back in elementary school, we shared juice all the time after soccer, but back then I thought she was a boy. Now, I felt a bit embarrassed.
“Heeh, I actually like this.”
“It’s sweettt… but deliciousrr.”
The other two seemed to like it.
As we walked, it became pitch black very quickly. We used our phones to light our path; there were, of course, no streetlights at all.
After walking a short distance, I looked up.
“Eh?”
At my voice, everyone looked up at once.
“Eh?”
“No way…”
“Whattt is thisss…?”
It was like looking at a planetarium. No, it was more than that. The colors, the sizes, the sheer number of stars—no machine could ever reproduce this. The starry sky I had only ever seen in photographs was spread out right before my eyes.
The sight was so overwhelming that everyone lost their voices.
The Milky Way was clearly visible, and the night sky seemed almost bright from the starlight.
“I-incredible…”
I finally managed to speak, but “incredible” was all I could say. The four of us stared at the sky in silence.
After watching for a while, I remembered something I’d read in a book.
“Every one of those stars is a sun… I can’t believe it.”
“A sun?”
“Almost everything that’s glowing right now is a sun. And just like our Earth orbits ours, almost all of them have planets revolving around them.”
“There are more stars inside this many stars?”
“Well, ‘stars’ usually refer to fixed stars (kōsei) like the sun that glow on their own, but yeah. Looking at this makes me feel truly tiny…”
“You aren’t tiny, Onii-chan. You’re my ‘fixed star.’ I’m just a planet that revolves around you…”
Suddenly, Michiru took my hand.
“Eh?”
When I looked at our hands and then at Michiru, she was still looking up. Then, Asami took my other hand.
Asami and Michiru then took my sister’s hands. We formed a circle, all of us looking at the sky.
Just as I thought it was a nice atmosphere and tried to look at the sky again…
“I! I love Yuu!! I love you so much!!!!”
“Eh!”
Michiru suddenly confessed.
When I looked at her, she was still facing upward, not looking at me.
“Wait, what? Eh?”
Then Asami shouted with a volume she never used in her daily life.
“Me tooo! I love Yuuu! I love you so muchrrr!!”
“Eeeeeeeeeeeeh?!”
Now Asami was shouting that she loved me…
Wait a minute, what is going on?
As if to deliver the finishing blow, my sister shouted:
“I love you more than both of themmm! I love you so much, Onii-channnnnn!!”
My sister, directly in front of me, screamed it out!
“Wait, hold on, what is this?!”
The three of them kept their eyes fixed on the sky. There was no atmosphere of “choose one of us” or “give us an answer.”
It felt more like they were making a declaration to the stars—clarifying their own feelings to themselves.
I was startled, but honestly, I was happy. Happy that they could love someone like me…
Looking at this vast number of stars, I was made to feel that I wasn’t tiny, and that I wasn’t alone.
Suppressing the tears that threatened to fall, I honestly told the three of them my current feelings.
“Thank you!”
