My girlfriend's mother turned out to be my stalker - Chapter 3- Change the job
“Leave the job,” Was his response.
My lips parted in shock. Even though I was expecting this…for him to say it so indifferently without a moment of thought was staggering.
“Tanaka-san…it’s just about a month. I promise I will do an extra shift-”
“Do you realize I am breaking rules here by giving you this job, Kei?” He suddenly asked, his eyes narrowed. “I was not allowed to take in high schoolers but I did. And I gave you that shift which can be convenient to you. Don’t ask too much from me unless you want to say goodbye to this job.”
I was…rendered speechless.
What he said was true. He was risking his position by giving me this job. Other than me, everyone working here is an adult.
Not to talk about, my shift starts at six, which is quite convenient for me. And my pay is very good as well.
Now that I think about it…he was right.
“I am sorry, Tanaka-san …I will withdraw my name from the team,” I told him, and heard no response.
Soon, I left the office and headed back to the kitchen.
Leaning against the counter, I gathered my thoughts.
“Didn’t go well?” Asked a familiar guy who also works here.
Third-year University student, Asukawa Ichiro-san, was my senior at work and someone to whom I could talk about my problems.
“Well, I didn’t hold much hope in the first place,” I told him.
After a brief pause, he asked, “Have you tried looking for another job?”
“Yeah, I did. But either it was timing or the pay.” Shaking my head, I told him, “Well, I will figure something out.” Saying so, I stepped toward the kitchen and took the tray of coffee and snacks.
“Table number sixteen,” I was informed before I carried the tray towards the corner of the cafe.
It was Saturday, so not only students but also office workers crowded the place to have some peaceful time and release some stress they had accumulated over the week.
There were two or more people on most of the tables, but the one I was approaching had only a single person. And the unusual thing about this customer? She might be playing undercover.
I mean, she was completely covered head to toe. A hoodie covered her head, a mask over her mouth, and black glasses. I mean, who wears glasses indoors?
By her frame, I guessed she was a woman. But other than that…she can be anyone.
“Here is your order.” I said as I rested the cup on the table before relaying with a smile, “Please let me know if you need anything.”
I felt the lady looked up at me, but I couldn’t really tell.
I took a step back when she suddenly called out in a barely audible voice, “Can you stir some sugar in it?”
I was baffled as to why she needed my help with it. Not to talk about, she asked for a coffee without any sugar…so did she suddenly change her mind?
Regardless, I didn’t ask any questions and stepped closer to her.
“How many cubes?” I asked and saw her raising three fingers.
…wow.
The lady likes it sweet, eh?
I smilingly dropped three cubes before taking a spoon and slowly moving it.
Somehow…I could still feel her gaze on me…but she was holding a book.
Was I imagining things because of what has been happening recently regarding the stalker vibe?
Could be…but Sumire said I was just seeing things and Ryouta also didn’t seem to notice anything strange.
“There you go,” I said before pushing the cup a little closer to her.
She hurriedly extended her hand and for a moment, our fingers touched.
I, without showing any reactions slowly removed my hand and told her, “Enjoy your coffee.”
Saying so, I made my way to the other tables.
The lady was weird for sure.
I mean, who wears so many layers of clothes in this heat?
Regardless, I got busy with other guests, taking their orders, bringing them to the kitchen, and then serving them.
While I worked, I noticed that the weird lady remained seated. After she finished her coffee, she asked for more, and while she sipped on her coffee, she seemed to be reading something really interesting.
“She is weird, isn’t she?” Asked my other senior named Kazuto.
I glanced at the lady before shrugging, “Might be here to gawk at someone.” I joked.
But at that time, little did I know how right I was. And that person was none other than….
