My Girlfriend Wanted an Open Relationship, So I Broke Up with Her and Found a Sweet Yandere - Chapter 4: Thief
That was weird.
Me and Hayami-sensei exchanged glances before looking back at the guy. He slowly turned, his face almost hidden behind his bangs. When he brushed them aside, we got a good look at him—an angular face, pale skin, and brown eyes. He had an earring dangling from one ear, giving him a bit of an edge.
Honestly, he was good-looking. Not gonna lie, with a face like that, he could probably be an idol if he wanted to. But right now? His behavior screamed drunkard. Well, that’s exactly what he was.
He stared at us for a second, his gaze lingering a bit too long. Then, without warning, he stood up again, moving his chair to face us directly. My pulse quickened, and I subtly reached for the glass in front of me, ready to defend myself if things went south.
He opened his mouth, and for a moment, I braced myself for more craziness. But then he surprised us.
“I’m sorry for saying that… I’m just not feeling right. I’m sorry if it bothered you,” he mumbled, bowing deeply, nearly losing his balance as he did so.
“Eh.” I blinked, caught off guard by the sudden apology.
He straightened up, wobbled a bit, then shuffled back to his seat like nothing had happened.
I let out a breath I didn’t even realize I was holding, glancing at Hayami-sensei, who looked just as confused as I felt.
I tried to focus on my food. But for most of the time, I could feel Hayami-sensei’s eyes on me. It wasn’t in a creepy or uncomfortable way, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that she was watching me a little too closely. Every time I glanced up, there she was, her gaze soft but… intense, like she was trying to figure me out.
We finished up, and after a few moments of awkward silence, we decided to leave the restaurant. As we stood up, I cleared my throat. “I’ll walk you home, Sensei.”
To my surprise, her face lit up immediately. “Yes! I’d love that!” Her response was so enthusiastic that it caught me off guard.
I blinked at her, confused by her sudden excitement. She seemed to realize her reaction too, quickly composing herself. “I mean, that would be nice. Thank you.” She nodded, her usual calm demeanor returning, but it felt like she was still trying to control her emotions.
We stepped outside, the cool evening air washing over us as we walked away from the restaurant. Just as we reached the sidewalk, I heard her gasp.
“Hey!” she yelled, but it was too late. Someone had bumped into her, moving fast, and before I could even react, the person was gone.
“My phone!” she exclaimed, frantically checking her bag. “They took my phone!”
I looked around, but whoever it was had already vanished into the crowd.
we stood there, shocked and trying to process what had just happened, the white-haired dude from inside the restaurant strolled out, casually picking his teeth with a toothpick. He glanced around, looking as uninterested as ever, before pointing toward a spot in the crowd.
Without even breaking a sweat, he muttered, “He took it.” His finger shifted, locking onto a guy wearing a black cap, walking swiftly through the crowd.
I barely had a second to process what he said before Hayami-sensei dashed off into the crowd. “Sensei, wait!” I shouted, but she was already weaving between people, determined to catch the thief.
I hurried after her, heart pounding, trying to keep up. The streets were packed, making it hard to navigate, and every time I thought I was getting closer, the guy in the black cap slipped further away. The crowd seemed to swallow him whole.
For a moment, I thought we had lost him. I stopped, breathless and frustrated, scanning the area. Damn it, where did he go?
Suddenly, the white-haired guy appeared again, stepping right in front of me. He didn’t say anything at first, just stared at me with a bored expression, then pointed behind me. “Look back,” he shouted.
I whipped around, and there he was—the thief—crouched behind a garbage can, trying to hide.
“Gotcha,” I muttered, feeling a surge of adrenaline. We closed in on him, cornering the guy with nowhere left to run.
We closed in on the thief, and as soon as I grabbed him by the arm, his attempts to run were pointless. He struggled, but I held him tight, not letting go. Hayami-sensei stood beside me, glaring at the guy as if she’d seen enough.
“Let go, man!” the thief protested, but there was no way I was letting him slip away. Hayami quickly checked his pockets, and after a bit of fumbling, she pulled her phone out of his jacket.
“Here it is!” she said, relieved but still shaken. I dragged the guy back toward the street where a security officer happened to be passing by. We handed him over, and after a quick explanation, the officer took him away.
As I turned to walk back, the white-haired guy was still there, casually leaning against a nearby wall. He pushed off and walked over, his usual uninterested expression plastered on his face.
“Nice job,” he said, smirking as he flicked his toothpick away. “Didn’t think you’d catch him. You guys make a pretty good team.”
I nodded, wiping the sweat from my brow. “Thanks for pointing him out. What’s your name, by the way?”
He cocked an eyebrow as if he hadn’t expected me to ask. “Name’s Kaito,” he said coolly. “And you?”
“Yuuta,” I responded, extending my hand. He glanced at it for a second before giving it a firm shake.
“Good to meet you, Yuuta,” Kaito replied. His gaze shifted to Hayami-sensei for a moment, and he flashed a grin. “You two make a good-looking couple.”
I froze, glancing awkwardly at Sensei, who looked just as startled as I was. Before either of us could correct him, Kaito gave us a lazy wave. “Catch you around,” he said, walking off into the night, his hands in his pockets.
Hayami-sensei and I stood there in silence for a moment, still processing everything.
“I-I’ll walk you back” i stuttered.
“Y-yeah.” Sensei did too.
I think i forgot something…but it wasn’t that important I guess.
[A/N: Yeah it wasn’t]
