There is No Way My Childhood Friend Can Win Against My Girlfriend (1)
“Senpai—Please wake up, Senpai.”
I wake up in a rather unusual way.
Along with the sweet voice, my body is gently being shaken from side to side.
In my blurry vision, I see a girl with bright-coloured hair—
“Rinka-chan?”
“Hmm, did you forget? I told you to just call me by my name.”
“Sorry, it’s a habit…wait, why are you here!?”
Like a cat whose tail has been stepped on, I quickly sit up straight.
My eyes widen in surprise, and I try to get my sleepy brain to function at full speed.
“You were the one who told me about it, right? You said Tsukimiya-san is staying over. I didn’t notice your message since I fell asleep right after our video call last night.”
“Eh…ah, right…”
Last night, I sent a message to Rinka. She didn’t reply to my message at that time, but she must have seen it when she woke up this morning.
I glance around the room. The clock shows it’s just about half past six.
“I hurriedly got ready and came rushing over, you know? You’re a really troublesome boyfriend, Senpai.”
“Sorry. But I couldn’t just leave her out there in the middle of the night.”
“You should’ve just left her. If anything happened, it would be her own fault.”
“Yeah, I know, but…”
“Well, not being able to leave her like that is just so typical of you, Senpai.”
“Ugh…wait, how did you get into my house?”
“Ah, the door is unlocked.”
“It’s unlocked?”
Rinka nods her head.
Did I forget to lock the door?
I get up from the bed, rubbing my sleepy eyes. I pull open the curtains, letting sunlight into the room.
“By the way, Senpai.”
“Hmm?”
“Nothing happened last night, right?”
“Of course not. Look, over there…”
I point towards the futon where my childhood friend should be, but no one is there.
The futon has been neatly folded, and there is no sign of my childhood friend anywhere.
“She’s not here.”
“Huh…maybe she went home?”
The only thing I can think of is that she went home without me knowing.
The trains are already running by now, and considering that the door is left unlocked, it’s quite likely that she has gone home.
“Well, honestly, I don’t really care where Tsukimiya-san is. I just need assurance that nothing happened between you two last night.”
“Nothing happened, I swear. But…assurance, huh.”
Unexpectedly, my childhood friend ended up staying the night at my place.
We indeed didn’t do anything last night, but the problem is, I have no way to prove it.
“I’m worried. I can’t shake the feeling that maybe, deep down, Senpai still has feelings for Tsukimiya-san…if you spent the night together without me knowing, it just makes me worried.”
If I had recorded the whole night, I could have proved that nothing happened. But I didn’t think that far ahead, and guilt starts to creep in.
“Sorry for making you worry…but really, nothing happened last night.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I’ll make sure something like this never happens again.”
“You better. Senpai—Toshiya-kun…is mine.”
She says while gripping my clothes tightly and pulling me into a hug.
I gently put my hand around her back in return.
We hug each other like that for a while
Then, Rinka starts to sniff softly.
“Um, what are you doing?”
“I’m checking your scent. Even if you say nothing happened, there’s still a chance that she did something while you were sleeping.”
“But I barely slept for more than two hours last night…I think I’m fine.”
“Yet, when I arrived, you were fast asleep.”
She has a point. There is a period of time that I’m fully asleep.
I can’t guarantee that she didn’t do anything to me during that time.
“So, how is it…does everything seem fine?”
“Yeah, I think it’s fine. If there’s another woman’s scent on Senpai, I’d definitely notice.”
“You have a really good sense of smell…”
“So, don’t think you can cheat on me easily.”
“That will absolutely never happen! If Rinka hates me, I don’t think I can handle it…”
“Don’t worry. There is no way I can ever hate you.”
I hug Rinka even more tightly, feeling her warmth again.
Suddenly, the door creaks open.
“Eh, what…are you doing…?”
My childhood friend is standing at the entrance, holding a plastic bag in her right hand.
She has caught me in the middle of hugging Rinka, witnessing the scene perfectly.
Rinka slowly turns her head to look back.
“That’s my line, Tsukimiya-senpai.”
Rinka mutters so in an unusually cold voice.
