Mission 3: Breaking Up with Childhood Friend!
“Please break up with me.”
“…eh?”
Right now, Airi and I are sitting across each other at the family restaurant.
We are sitting at a four-person table near in the centre of the restaurant.
When I bring up the topic of us breaking up, Airi’s expression stiffens.
But then she puts on her usual smile quickly.
“T-That kind of joke is not funny, Toshi-kun…today is not April Fool’s Day, you know?”
“I know.”
“You must be joking…right?”
“I’m not joking at all. I’m being serious, I want you to break up with me.”
I told Airi so clearly, without hesitation.
I no longer want to waste my time on Airi. Today, I’ll put and end to our relationship.
“B-But we haven’t even been dating for a month yet! And you’re the one who confessed your feelings to me, Toshi-kun!”
“Do you really want me to tell you the reason?”
“Of course! You can’t just break up with me without giving a reason!”
Airi slams her hands on the table and stands up abruptly.
Her expression seems anxious, and she is speaking faster than usual.
It seems that she is panicking.
I remain calm and decide to tell her the main reason for the breakup.
“From now on, you should get along with Shintaro.”
“…w-what are you talking about? Why would I need to get along with Nakajo-kun?”
“There’s no point in pretending. I saw it last Sunday—you and Shintaro coming out of a hotel together.”
“T-That’s not true! You’ve got it all wrong, Toshi-kun! That is just a misunderstanding! I didn’t go to a hotel!”
Airi keeps making excuses. She is blinking more frequently than usual, and even though its winter, sweat is beginning to trickle down her face.
“You can keep making excuses, but that’s really the reason why I ask you to break up with me…you’re the one who caused the breakup.”
“No…it’s a misunderstanding! Wait, how did you…weren’t you supposed to be at work, Toshi-kun?”
“I finished work early that day. I didn’t tell you because I had some shopping to do on my own.”
“What do you mean? Shopping without telling me? What did you buy?”
“I was just making a stupid purchase.”
I give Airi a vague answer to her question and let out a small sigh.
Airi’s body trembles, and she is biting her lower lip tightly.
“Toshi-kun, you must have mistaken us for someone else who just looks like me and Nakajo-kun.”
“Can’t you come up with a better excuse?”
“…okay, fine…yeah, you’re right. I was with Nakajo-kun that day, but there is nothing suspicious going on between us, I swear! We just ran into each other while shopping…and then we saw a place that said it was for resting, so we just decided to check it out. Hahaha…I really had no idea it was that kind of place. I didn’t tell you about it because I knew you’d be disappointed in me if you found out. Yes, we did enter the hotel, I admit that, but we didn’t do anything! I swear, nothing happened!”
“You didn’t even kiss him?”
“……!”
I don’t know what happened between Airi and Shintaro in that hotel. Maybe, just maybe, nothing really happened.
But I saw them kiss with my own eyes. So how am I supposed to believe Airi’s words after seeing that.
“N-No, you got it all wrong, Toshi-kun…”
“What did I get wrong?”
“I-I’m being blackmailed by Nakajo-kun.”
“Blackmailed?”
“Yeah—he is blackmailing me. The truth is, I…shoplifted the other day, but it’s not what it seems! It was just a moment of weakness, and I returned it afterward. However, Nakajo-kun saw me do it, and he said if I didn’t do what he said, he would tell the school or the police. Please, Toshi-kun, help me.”
It’s unbelievable how she can come up with such a fabricated story so easily. However, if it was the old me, I would’ve believed every word of this blatant lie.
I was so blindly in love with Airi. Right now, I feel like I’ve finally broken free from that spell.
“Since when are you being blackmailed?”
“Umm, since about ten days ago, I think.”
“Then why didn’t you ask for my help at that time?”
“…w-well, I didn’t want to worry you, Toshi-kun.”
“But you’re telling me about it now?”
“T-That’s because you’re asking me to break up with you…”
“Enough already. Everything you’ve been saying and doing is totally messed up. Just break up with me and be done with it…ah, and don’t worry, I’m not planning on spreading rumours about your cheating and causing a big scene.”
If I were to make a big deal out of it, it would probably hurt both Airi and Shintaro. But even if I did, it would only give me temporary satisfaction, followed by emptiness.
I just don’t want to spend any more of my time on Airi or Shintaro. I don’t want to have anything to do with them. Whatever happens to them from here on out is none of my concern.
“That’s the end of the conversation. It was short, but thanks for going out with me.”
“No…wait. Please, wait, Toshi-kun!”
As I try to stand up, Airi quickly grabs the sleeve of my uniform.
“You’re so persistent…”
“I really do love you, Toshi-kun. That feeling isn’t a lie. I can’t imagine having a boyfriend other than you. S-So…is there any way we can start over?”
What on earth is she talking about?
I can hardly believe my ears.
“If you really do love me, then…why didn’t you stick to those feelings? It’s too late now.”
“No…no, please! Oh, wait…I know! There’s a way to prove that I didn’t do anything with Nakajo-kun. Can I come over to your place now, Toshi-kun?”
“Are you making fun of me?”
“I’m not making fun of you! But…that’s the only way I can think of to regain your trust…”
I can pretty much guess what Airi is thinking.
Given my lack of experience, she probably thinks that I won’t be able to tell whether she’s still a virgin or not. She must think that she can deceive me somehow…the fact that she has resorted to such a method shows just how shallow she truly is.
I get up from the table.
“Go have fun with your pretty boy.”
“…I’ll fix everything. I’ll fix all of my mistakes…so please, don’t leave me, Toshi-kun!”
Airi pleads and clings to me with tears welling up in her eyes
I shake off her hand and turn my back to her.
“…I’ll take care of the bill here, but let’s end this for good.”
“No, please…don’t leave me, Toshi-kun…”
Airi collapses weakly to the floor, sitting there helplessly.
Without looking back, I leave the restaurant.

That was satisfying but still lukewarm if u ask me. I would have recorded both the break up conversation and their cheating talk at the restaurant.
Afterwards I would play it both in an online video and using the broadcasting equipment for a schoolwide announcement. I would probably get written up as a result but it would be a worthy Zama moment.
The entire would will get to hear their disgusting conversation about cheating and the fact that she lied to about being blackmailed. Their social and online life would take a major hit and this stigma will follow them for the rest of their lives. Suffer you pieces of shit.
Damn, good job.
my man!
i still feel like he should’ve let her catch him cheating first and say “it was just to let off steam”
