Distraction

I sit on the bench for a while, drink my can of coffee, and pull out my phone.

I open the group chat of the student council, and type a message for them.

‘I just broke up with Kana Ikeuchi.’

Then I pick up the Fanta grape that was thrown at me by Kana. I think she went home.

From Kurusu Senpai and Hana.

‘Cheer up!’

‘You’ve done well.’

They replied.

There is no response from Setsuna and Yasui.

‘I’ll report back tomorrow with more details.’

I typed so and send the message to them.

I guess I should go home now.

As I put the Fanta grape away in the refrigerator, I tell my mother about it.

“I broke up with Kana-chan.’

“Eh, what!? Why?”

I guess I should tell her honestly.

“Kana-chan was cheating on me, but it’s all fine now.”

My mom gives me a very subtle look and encourages me.

I decided to go straight to the bath and soak in the bathtub. I feel very tired all of the sudden.

After leaving the bath, I go back to my room and continue studying.

After an hour or so, sleepiness set in. I decided to go to bed, a bit earlier than usual.

The next morning, I leave home early to meet up with Setsuna to go to school together with her as usual.

When I arrive at the station, she has not arrived yet, so I decided to wait there for a while.

I waited for about 10 minutes and I can’t see her anywhere. I should text her.

‘I’m at the station now. Are you going to be late?’

She reads my message as soon as I sent it.

‘Sorry, you can go ahead today.’

It seems that Setsuna is going to be late. I think I’ll go to school alone today.

It seems that Kana is also absent today. I can’t see her anywhere when I arrive at class.

Well, I guess she had gone through a lot yesterday.

During the break time, when I’m talking with Hana in the classroom, Sugimura seems to be staring at me a lot.

It seems that Hana also noticed it.

“He’s staring at you.”

She whispered to me.

Then during lunch break, when I arrive at the student council room, Setsuna and Kurusu-senpai are already there. For some reason, Setsuna seems down today.

While the four of us are having lunch, I briefly explain to them what happened last night.

Kurusu-senpai spits out the Karage she was eating.

Hana spits out the green tea she was drinking.

Setsuna’s eyes widen and she froze, dropping the chopsticks she was holding.

“She said she did it about three days ago, so I guess that means they did it after she was flirting with Sugimura after school that day.”

“Uwaa…”

“After I heard that, my blood started to boil, I told her everything that I had been complaining about, and I told her clearly that we were breaking up. Then she got angry and left.”

“That’s pitch black.

“T-Then, for the time being, is it safe to say that the student body will be back to normal today?”

Kurisu-senpai confirms to Setsuna.

“Y-Yeah, I guess so.”

I knew it, Setsuna, you look kind of down today.

After finishing my lunch and chatting a little with them, the bell rings. Lunch break is over.

I get up from my seat.

“I’m sorry, I have something to do after school today, so we’ll take a day off from student council.”

Setsuna said so.

“Yeah, we’ve been through a lot lately, let’s all take the day off today.”

Kurusu-senpai said.

So we decided to call it a day for today, and I walk back to my classroom with Hana.

“If you don’t have anything to do today, would you like to go hang out with me after school?”

I don’t have anything to do today. I guess it’s nice to distract myself from all these problems.

“Yeah, sure. I’m in a mood for distraction as well.”

“Okay then. I’ll come to your class after school, so please wait for me here. See you after school.”

Hana said so as she waves her hand at me.

After school, Hana comes to my class.

“So, where are we going today?”

“Hmm, I don’t have anywhere particular in mind, what about we hang around the station?”

“Sounds great.”

So, me and Hana walk together toward the station from school.

“Sugimura was staring at Mugi today, isn’t he? That probably means Sugimura was also dumped by Ikeuchi-san.”

“Eh? Is that so? I definitely thought Sugimura and Kana-chan would start dating.”

“Hmm, Ikeuchi-san said he doesn’t like Sugimura, right?”

“She said so.”

“Maybe, I think Ikeuchi-san still likes Mugi, so she probably told Sugimura that it was all his fault and dumped him.”

“I see…”

We enter a shopping mall in front of the station while talking about this. I’m accompanying Hana on her window shopping.

After hanging around for an hour or so, we decided to take a break, so we go into a family restaurant, bought some drink and fries, and continue chatting.

“Speaking of which, will Mugi really go out with the president?”

“Hmm, I wonder if we will…”

“What does Mugi think of the president?”

“If you ask me whether I like her or not, I like her. She takes good care of me, she helped me a lot this time, she’s beautiful and interesting to talk to.”

We always talk a lot in the student council room, but I think this incident has brought me even closer to hana, but I can’t honestly talk about my relationship with Setsuna with her.

“You know. When I heard that Mugi had broken up with Ikeuchi-san, I thought for sure she would definitely say something like, ‘Now my dating ban with Mugi-kun has been lifted!’”

“I actually thought so too.”

The sky is getting darker, it’s getting quite late, we should go home now.

We leave the family restaurant and start to walk to the station.

When we about to part,

“I’ll continue going to Mugi’s class during breaks for a while. See you tomorrow.”

Hana told me so.

“Yeah, thank you for everything. See you tomorrow.”

I said so and wave her goodbye.
