My Adorable Daughter Can't Be A Villainess - Chapter 9 - The Dragon's Will
The Dragon King had three Generals, his three confidants on whom he blindly trusted.
The Horde Hunter, Balathor — the Lord of Orcs.
The Silent Death, Asenthera — the Prince of Elves.
And the Calamity Witch, Melinda.
These three along with the Dragon King had fought the ones who rule the heavens.
A few mortals who dared to challenge the Gods a thousand years ago.
And they had reached the gates of heavens. It’s theoretically a place one could only reach by breaking the three fundamental laws of reality.
And being mortals, the immortal ones couldn’t harm them either despite their rage.
However, just as they touched Heaven’s door, a being appeared, clad in darkness, radiating such evil that it even made the Dragon King take a few steps back and its presence was enough to steal the glory of Heaven.
Anyone could tell that whichever side this entity stood, either mortal or immortal, they would win.
In the end, he chose to fight against the mortal ones, and he wasn’t punished because, as surreal as it may sound, the one who brought the Dragon King to his knees was also a mortal existence.
A human.
After the war ended, the Dragon Monarch along with his Generals disappeared. They were erased from existence by that strange being whom everyone named The One.
However, before their disappearance, the four rebellious rulers made the announcement to the world that they would return.
And when they would, the world would burn under their rule.
And that’s exactly what was supposed to happen.
============
The girl sitting before Eric right now, his daughter, was supposed to inherit the Will of the Dragon King.
She has already awakened her blessings, an Elemental type of Arcane. However, with time and under certain circumstances she would awaken another Arcane, the Sigil of an ancient creature.
A dragon.
Then, later, she would realize she could even use independent sorcery, and that is something only allowed to those with Arcanum Arcane.
And finally, when the Protagonist betrays her to protect the heroine…she finally awakens the Dragon King’s will, unlocking the last Arcane.
The Primordial.
Once she awakens that …she becomes unstoppable.
It might be the first time that he read a book with an unfortunate ending.
But it was understandable too.
Once you awaken a Primordial Arcana you become the ruler of the concept of reality.
And the protagonist or anyone else wasn’t capable of facing anything like that.
The first thing Charlotte does upon awakening that Arcane was to follow the Will of the Dragon King and burn the whole world.
And in the process, she loses herself too.
That’s what was supposed to happen.
But Eric won’t let that story repeat itself. Not when he was around.
“Umm…is there a problem?” Charlotte asked, feeling a little uneasy seeing the man being so intense.
Eric eased his expression before shaking his head, “No, I am sorry if it has made you uncomfortable.”
They were sitting inside a carriage which was taking them to the Church.
Charlotte shook her head, “No, it’s okay. It’s just…I am too nervous right now…so when you looked so worried that I…I am sorry, if I am sounding unreasonable right now.”
Eric nodded, “I understand how you feel right now, and it’s okay to feel nervous.”
Charlotte exhaled a sigh, her fingers intervened on her lap.
After a brief pause she asked, “Were you and my mother classmates in the academy?”
Eric slowly nodded, “Yes… and we were quite close.”
Whether it was out of curiosity or she wanted to divert her mind, Charlotte asked, “How was she during her academy days?”
For Charlotte, her mother has always been a calm, kind and confident woman.
Despite their financial problems, she never showed a weak front or ever allowed Charlotte to feel unsafe.
She always hid all the pain and struggle behind a serene smile.
She was the type of woman Charlotte dreamt of becoming one day.
However, she wondered if her mother had always been like that?
Eric hummed thoughtfully. Leaning back, he answered her, “I have never seen someone as ambitious as her. She was like that sun who shone even in a crowd, someone who made her presence clear without even trying to. Many hated her, many loved her but no one ever ignored her.”
Charlotte’s shoulders relaxed a little as she asked, “Was she a bright student?”
Eric chuckled, “She was someone who enrolled solely based on her reputation with swords and I was baffled to see how amazing she was.”
Shaking his head, he added, “I took pride in my range of knowledge but that girl…she simply absorbed anything she read or heard once.”
Charlotte giggled, “She is still like that. Every article she reads in the morning, she remembers it down to every detail.”
Eric smiled in response as he said, “We used to have a rivalry. I might sometimes surpass her in brains but in strength, I barely won. Maybe… once in ten battles.”
Charlotte’s eyes glimmered with emotions, “She has always been strong, hasn’t she?”
Eric didn’t have to think to answer that, “She is the strongest woman I have ever come across. And not just physical strength, mentally too.”
Charlotte felt a lot better now. Hearing about her mother, the time when she didn’t have to live a life under constant pressure…it made her both happy and sad.
Not so long after, the carriage came to a pause and the door was opened by the butler.
Eric stepped out before holding his hand for Charlotte.
Charlotte thanked the man as she climbed down the carriage and looked at the massive cathedral before her.
He wasn’t lying. Her mother was really in the church getting healed.
Her heart was filled with both relief and elation.
Her mother was finally going to get better.
“Charlotte,” Eric called out, seeing the girl smiling at the sight.
The emotions in her eyes melted his heart before he urged, “Why don’t you come and see her first. I am sure that smile would help her recover better.”
The little one nodded before she finally climbed the stairs, eager to see her mother.
