My Adorable Daughter Can't Be A Villainess - Chapter 25 - The Academy
Obsidian Spire stood as one of the most prominent academies in the world, consistently ranked at the very top of the continent.
What set the academy apart from all others was its strict, hundred percent merit based enrollment each year. No influence, no status, and no wealth could open its gates. Only ability, effort, and potential mattered.
Beyond that, the professors teaching within Obsidian Spire were not merely instructors, but true specialists in their respective fields.
Each one had proven themselves through real achievements rather than reputation alone. To ensure students always learned from the best, every teacher was required to undergo a thorough assessment every half year.
Those who failed to meet the academy’s standards were replaced without hesitation.
Obsidian Spire never compromised when it came to the growth of its students, whether physical or mental. Combat training was balanced with theory, discipline was matched with guidance, and talent was refined through constant challenge.
Thanks to such careful observation and strict standards, almost every student who graduated from the academy secured a safe and respected future. Not only for themselves, but for their families as well.
And that was exactly why Charlotte wanted to enroll in this academy.
“Come,” Eric said as the carriage came to a halt. He stepped out first and offered his hand to her.
Charlotte rested her hand in his and stepped out of the carriage.
Two towering iron gates stood before them, engraved with ancient symbols. Stone towers flanked the entrance, and banners bearing the academy’s crest fluttered in the wind.
Several guards patrolled the area, checking the credentials of students who wished to enter the academy.
Today was a visiting day. Any student hoping to enroll could visit as long as they were already studying under a recognized institution.
Normally, Charlotte would not have been allowed to enter, since she had been homeschooled by her mother.
But she had Eric beside her.
For a moment, the soldiers at the entrance seemed as if they might question her.
But the instant Eric approached, every soldier straightened and saluted.
Even the one seated near the entrance, who had been checking documents, stood up to greet him.
“Good morning, Sir Blackwood.”
Eric gave a short nod and passed through the checkpoint, with Charlotte walking beside him.
Charlotte felt a little shy under the gazes of the students waiting in line while she was allowed in without delay.
As they entered, a wide courtyard opened up before them.
Long corridors stretched along both sides, and more buildings stood in the distance, leading to classrooms and other facilities.
The central area was covered in grass, with flower beds neatly lined along the edges.
They stepped onto the gravel path, walking side by side as Eric spoke. “On your left are the classrooms. That corridor leads deeper inside, where the second and third year classrooms are located.”
He then pointed to the right. “That section holds the cafeteria, the study rooms, and the infirmary.” Pointing straight ahead, he continued, “The left corridor leads to the library. The center one goes to the training grounds, and the last one leads to the dormitories.”
Charlotte eagerly took in everything, turning her head this way and that like an excited child.
As she did, she noticed several people, students and teachers alike, glancing at Eric and quietly whispering among themselves.
After a brief pause, Eric said, “Let me show you the training grounds first.”
Charlotte nodded with a bright smile.
As they walked, she asked, “What are the requirements to enter the academy?”
She already knew the answer, but she wanted to hear it from him.
“There are two tests,” Eric replied. “One on general awareness, and one combat assessment.”
Charlotte hesitated before asking, “Do you think I can enroll here? It has always been my dream.”
Eric hummed softly before saying, “Can you show me your Arcane?”
It was strange that he had never seen her use it before.
Charlotte paused, then turned to face the wall, moving her hair aside.
Eric narrowed his eyes as the image of a phoenix appeared at the base of her neck.
“That is a strong Beast Arcane,” he said. “Why are you so hesitant to use it?”
He already knew the answer, but he still asked.
Charlotte sighed, letting her hair fall back into place before turning to him.
With her head lowered, she muttered, “I have no control over my Arcane. Whenever I use it, I lose control of my emotions, and I end up hurting the people around me.”
Emotional control was essential for Arcane users. In her case, she needed far more than that.
Her body was not suited to fully manifest such overwhelming power.
It would take time for her to work with something her body was not built to handle.
Eric could already imagine how helpless her mother must have felt, unable to help her.
But Eric knew what path Charlotte needed to take to awaken her strength sooner.
“I will help you,” he said firmly. “I can help you control your Arcane. Starting today, we will begin your training.”
Charlotte’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “You will teach me?”
Eric blinked. “You do not want me to?”
“No, of course I want you to!” she said quickly. “It is just that I was surprised.”
The thought that one of the most renowned instructors in the world was offering to teach her left her shaken.
Eric smiled. “You are aiming to become a student of Obsidian Spire. Be prepared for harsh training.”
Charlotte nodded with determination. “I understand.”
If it meant entering the academy, she would endure any hardship.
She did not want to waste her life or disappoint her mother.
“Sir Eric.”
A man rushed toward them.
Eric turned to him, and the two spoke briefly.
Charlotte did not pay attention to their conversation, even though her curiosity stirred.
After a moment, Eric turned back to her. “I apologize, but I need to meet someone urgently. You can wait for me in the cafeteria if you like.”
Charlotte nodded. “Okay.”
Eric gave a quick nod and followed the man toward the opposite side.
Little did he know how wrong his decision to leave Charlotte alone would be.
