My Adorable Daughter Can't Be A Villainess - Chapter 11 - She needs both of us
Eric was a senior Professor at the Obsidian Spire. One of the five great academies situated on the continent.
He was a teacher of magic mechanisms and also someone who had a very keen interest in potion making.
He has studied both branches for five long years in different nations after graduation.
His aim was to become a researcher, but along the way, he developed a hobby of teaching his discoveries and knowledge to other people too. He enjoyed it when someone saw things from his angle, understood them, and applied those methods in everyday life.
As such, he decided to become a teacher. And since the Obsidian Spire was a home of thousands of research materials, it was a win-win for Eric.
However, now, he was a little worried.
He would need to return as a Professor by next week. It was the end of the semester break, so he could enjoy some peaceful time. But it won’t last long.
Fortunately, there was approximately one year before the canon began, so before that, he must get used to his role as a Professor and establish his relationship with other teachers in the academy.
The moment the Protagonist of this world steps into the Academy, the peace which the Obsidian Spire had been celebrating for the past tense of years…it would cease to exist.
The Protagonist was a walking trouble magnet, even though he never wanted to bring attention to himself.
He would be surrounded by dangers. He was chosen as the inheritor of the Hero’s Will– the same human who somehow gave a tough competition to the Dragon King’s forces to prevent them from entering the Heavens.
But the Hero was killed in the end and now, after a thousand years, the Hero’s heir has appeared to stop the calamity…that is Charlotte.
Eric can’t change the fact that Charlotte carries the Dragon’s Will. But he surely could eliminate all those possibilities that would push her to awaken her Primordial Arcane.
And the first step to preventing that future from becoming true is to keep her away from the protagonist anyhow.
The main character is one of the biggest reasons, aside from Eric himself, for Charlotte to lose her self-restraint and bring about the death of this world.
So, for now, he must keep Charlotte far away from that town where the main character resides.
The main character was the son of Baron Ronestone– his territory was about two days away from Eric’s house.
So the chances of them crossing paths were very slim.
From Eric’s memory, before Charlotte and the protagonist reunited in the academy, Charlotte was saved from a group of rouge hunters. This left a very strong impression on Charlotte.
That incident left a deep impression on the girl.
Eric needs to prevent that from happening. And for that, he must keep Charlotte far away from the hunting region.
“She had finished changing, Professor Blackwood.” The nun stepped out of the room and informed him.
Eric gave a brief bow and entered the room.
Inside, Chloe was sitting on the bed, wearing a fresh set of clothes: a white top and a brown skirt.
Her shoulders were bare, revealing her flushed skin.
Chloe’s long hair was draped over her shoulder, and under the dim light, her hair made her look ethereal.
She might be quite malnourished, but still, she held a charm that made Eric pause and admire her beauty for a few seconds.
As Eric stepped inside, he noticed Charlotte wasn’t anywhere to be seen.
Just then, Chloe spoke up, “She is inside the bathroom, getting changed.”
Eric nodded and took a seat across from her.
Silence lingered between them for a few seconds before Chloe finally uttered something that had been clawing at her for what felt like forever.
“You didn’t tell her that you are her father because you suspect me, don’t you? You believe I got myself pregnant with someone else and now I am trying to trap you using Charlotte.”
Eric was taken off guard at those words. His voice came out a little heavy, his brows furrowed as he said, “Why would you even consider such a thing?”
Chloe bit her lower lip, frustration shown on her face. Then, Eric continued.
“I know Charlotte is my daughter. I accept that fact and you don’t have to assume anything. I didn’t tell her about our relationship because there is a lot going through her head already. I don’t want to suddenly drop the news on her and put her in an awkward spot.”
Chloe just snickered but didn’t reply.
The same man who didn’t even come to his own brother’s funeral because he was busy with work, was suddenly being mindful of a girl’s emotions whom he barely knew? Yeah, as if.
He probably must have taken her blood sample and checked by the church.
Chloe was so sure that Eric must have taken that approach.
Eric could feel how distrustful Chloe was towards him but he knows he couldn’t do anything right now to let her know how sincere he was. Only actions and time will tell.
That’s why he chose to focus on something else.
“Once Charlotte comes out, we will leave right away.”
Chloe frowned, “To where?”
Eric plainly stared, “Of course, to my house. You two are going to live with me.”
Chloe glared daggers at Eric, “Don’t you assume that just because you saved me–”
“Chloe, Charlotte needs her mother more than she needs her father.” He interrupted, “I have been absent all her life and I want to change that. However, I know Charlotte can’t live without you. So please, I beg of you, not for any other reason but for her sake…come with me.”
Chloe turned silent for a few moments, studying Eric’s expression.
She…had long forgotten that this man could speak so many words at once.
The emotions he was showing. Deep in her heart she wanted to trust him, one last time, but her mind kept repeating that day when she woke up naked in the bed and the space beside her was empty.
That time when Eric had abandoned her.
Just then–
*Click*
The door of the bathroom opened and a freshly bathed Charlotte stepped out.
“Ah, Uncle Eric, you’re here.” She smiled as she greeted the man.
Eric gave a meek smile in response. He was about to speak when Chloe abruptly cut him off.
“Char, get your things ready. We’re going to live with Eric for a few days.”
