Chapter 4 The Hero and the Demon King Test Their Magic
Outside the window, the sky changes to the hues of twilight. Even in a different world, the moment before the sun sets still turns into an evening glow.
Mother and Hikaru returned to the hospital room. Father spoke to Mother.
“It’s almost the end of visiting hours, isn’t it?”
Mother nodded in agreement.
“Yes, you’re right. Both of them seem settled, and Hikaru might get tired, so we should head home soon.”
“That’s true. Papa will leave, but the two of you should rest well today. Isumi, don’t remove your IV or anything, okay?”
Having said that, the two of them left the room with Hikaru. Confirming their departure, Isumi, also known as the Hero, vigorously moved her restrained limbs. The cloth that had bound her came off easily. Perhaps Dr. Naruse hadn’t seriously restrained her from the beginning.
Having escaped from her restraints, she promptly stood up on the bed.
I sighed in amazement and said, “You never cease to surprise me.”
“Hey, hey, you were just told to rest peacefully.”
“Silence, Demon Lord!”
She yelled and once again pulled out the IV needle.
I asked her, trying to understand her intentions, “What are you planning to do?”
“I’m going to defeat you once and for all, Demon Lord!”
To the shouting Hero, I calmly responded, “Wasn’t there a ceasefire?”
“That was until my parents and sister left! Demon Lord, I won’t forgive you!”
I see. I tried to persuade the Hero to calm down.
“Let’s stop this now. Here, in Japan, we are twin siblings, after all.”
However, the Hero’s rampage didn’t stop.
“This is nonsense!! I’ll defeat you and return to my original world!”
“Well, I don’t think defeating me will actually take you back to your original world.”
While feeling the urge to facepalm, I tried to find the right words to say.
“Listen…”
However, the Hero went berserk.
“Don’t underestimate me just because I don’t have the Hero’s sword!”
As she yelled, she opened her hands and pointed them towards me.
Then, she started muttering something.
Wait, could it be!?
I shouted, “Hey, stop!”
No mistake about it.
The spell she was chanting was the colossal explosion spell, Ibera Bombgarba.
Excluding the self-sacrificial spell, Balas Eternity, it was the most powerful explosive magic.
This is not a joke.
If she uses such a spell here, not only this room, but the entire hospital might get blown away!
In a hurry to stop her, I tried to get up from the bed.
However, perhaps due to my unfamiliar body, I couldn’t move my limbs properly.
The IV needle was also in the way.
Before I could reach the Hero, she completed her spell.
“O Demon Lord! Repent for all your sins and vanish!”
If it has come to this, I have no choice but to use the skill “Magic Nullification: Anti-Spell.”
No, it’s no use.
Even as the Demon Lord, I cannot use that skill without the aid of magic items.
Just like the Hero’s sword, the items I had on me weren’t reincarnated either!
Damn it!
I can’t stop it anymore.
The Hero finally unleashes her magic.
“Giant Explosion Spell: Ibera Bombgarba!”
With a resounding cry from the Hero, a massive explosion should have occurred…
But it didn’t happen.
She stood there, speechless, staring at her own hands.
“Why… why can’t I use magic!?”
I let out a sigh and sat on the bed.
“Well, well, you seem shaken.”
“You! When did you use Magic Nullification: Anti-Spell?”
“I didn’t use anything like that.”
“Then how did you seal my magic!?”
“I didn’t seal it.”
“What do you mean!? Then why…”
Well, I can only make a guess too…
To the bewildered Hero, I explained.
“It’s simple. Hero Shirene can use the Giant Explosion Spell: Ibera Bombgarba, but it seems that Isumi Kamiya cannot.”
“What!?”
“Originally, the amount of inherent magical power differs from birth. Take a look at your current appearance.”
I pointed to a mirror at the edge of the hospital room.
She looked into the mirror and seemed shocked.
“T-This is me…?”
“That’s right.”
Curious, I also looked into the same mirror.
I saw in the reflection, us the young twins, Isumi Kamiya and Kageyo Kamiya.
“That… I don’t have the Hero’s sword, and I can’t use magic… What am I supposed to do?”
It seemed she had fallen into despair. She staggered and collapsed onto her bed. With her face buried in the pillow, she began to sob.
Though it’s not certain that she can’t use any magic at all… for now, it’s probably better if she believes that.
Nevertheless, she’s completely defenseless. If I were so inclined, capturing or killing her right now would be a piece of cake.
Well, I have no intention of doing that, though.
After a while, instead of the Hero’s sobs, I could hear small, peaceful breaths.
“Is she asleep?”
After the rampage following the major incident, Isumi Kamiya’s body must have reached its limit. My own body, Kageyo Kamiya, was also feeling quite tired.
I’m getting sleepy too… but before that, let’s make sure.
I recited a short spell and raised my right hand, saying “Light Magic: Lighting.”
A faint light glowed on my right hand and then vanished immediately.
“It seems I can manage to cast basic magic.”
With this much magical ability, I might even be able to cast a fire spell like “Flame.”
Of course, using even the most basic of spells has emptied my magical reserves. This is likely the limit of Kageyo Kamiya’s magical power.
On the other hand, Isumi Kamiya might possess a similar level of magical power. Perhaps she can use basic magic, even if the powerful spell “Giant Explosion Spell: Ibera Bombgarba” is beyond her reach.
Well, let’s just let the Hero believe that she can’t use any magic for a while. After all, it would be troublesome if she accidentally caused a fire by attempting “Flame.”
Perhaps due to using magic, Kageyo Kamiya’s body was now demanding sleep. There are many things I want to investigate, but for now, as my father suggested, I’ll just rest.
Before long, I, too, drifted into slumber, just like the Hero.
