Magic revolution of a Young Noblewoman Starting Over ~ The Executed Villainess restores her Ruined Family ~ Restraint? Prudence? I'm more interested in magic tools than that! - Chapter 19
The magic rifle’s might
——— Now then, it’s my turn.
Feeling completely at ease thanks to everyone, I greeted the audience with a curtsey and picked up the magic rifle on the table next ot me.
With the gun in my right hand, I felt around in the shoulder pouch with my left hand and took out the bullet I’d be using this time.
It is literally a lead ball.
A 12mm diameter.
It’s the same spherical-shaped bullet used for matchlock rifles and such, without a shell casing.
This is deliberate.
As long as there’s a possibility that the royal authority could turn their fangs on our Family, I’ll keep the guns supplied to the country to the level of reinforced matchlock rifles.
Even so, they should still exhibit enough might if we were to fight another country.
I hold up the gun, and insert the bullet from the muzzle.
The ball clattered as it fell down, and then stopped shortly after.
Unlike the guns of Earth, the ball is made small compared to the bore, so there’s no need to push a ramrod[1] into the muzzle.
From around here, the gun that I made this time, a magic gun, differs greatly from guns which launch bullets using the gas pressure from the combusted gas.
With my gun, after the bullet is instantaneously accelerated by magic power and shot out of the gun barrel, a magic circle is deployed at the muzzle’s end and explosively accelerates the bullet even more.[2]
In short, it adopts a two-step acceleration system.
Since the gun barrel has a magic circuit built in that stabilises the bullet’s trajectory, so there isn’t a problem with the gap between the gun barrel’s inner diameter and the bullet’s outer diameter.
This means that even I, a child, can manage to shoot this rifle with extremely little recoil.
”Well then, here I go!”
I called out to my father and brothers next to me, and readied the magic rifle.
I aim at the shield and armour placed 30 metres ahead on the opposite shore.
Of these, I first aim at the armour.
Operating the switch lever on the left-hand side, I set the safety device from [0 (Safety)] to [1 (Fire)].
Pressing the gunstock to my shoulder, I look into the sight installed above the device.
In that state, I pulled the trigger just halfway.
Then, with a [bwoon] kind of sound, a magic circle appears at the end of the muzzle, and the gun barrel begins shining with a bluish-white light.
”Oooh…”
The audience had their breath taken away.
I align the angle such that the sight’s V character on the muzzle’s front sight overlaps with the armour I’m aiming at ——— and gently pull the trigger.
A thunk sound is transmitted.[3]
In that instant, the muzzle’s magic circle shone, and with an explosive air shock, the light bullet was accelerated.[4]
The firing and the bullet landing were instantaneous.[5]
Babang, and the target armour shook.
”Oooooh!!”
The audience raised voices of admiration.
From here, one can clearly see the round hole pierced through the armour.
From the sound, there was no doubt that it had penetrated.
Next, the second shot.
I once again load a bullet from the muzzle, and immediately go into a firing position to appeal its rapid-fire ability.
I lightly pull the trigger, activating the magic circuit.
I align the front sight with the target magic shield, and then pull the trigger just like that.
Badoof!![6]
The magic shield burst apart with a sound much louder than before.
The mansion’s garden was filled with the astonished voices of the audience.
”Oi, what the 𝚑𝚎𝚕𝚕 was that?!”
”The magic shield got blown to pieces??!!”
The audience began to stir.
(——Alright!)
Taking a triumphant pose in my head, I then fired three bullets into the target armour.
☆
”Amazing! That was amazing, Letty!!”
Having just fired a total of 5 bullets and placing the gun down, Brother Hubert rushed over to me just as I announced the end of the demonstration.
”Did I do it right?”
”Of course!”
Brother Hugh hugged me with a radiant smile.
Brother Graham and Otou-sama also came from behind him.
”You did it, Letty.”
Saying so, Graham-nii-sama stroked my head.
Otou-sama comes up to me and goes down on one knee, places his hand on my shoulder and smiles.
”Leticia. You’ve clearly shown us your ability[7]. With this, I can proudly let you inherit the title. The king should agree as well.”
”Really?!”
Unintentionally asking a question in return, my father said,
”Yeah, really. ——— good job, Letty.”
Saying so, he stroked my head.[8]
I’m so happy.
In the previous life, my efforts were almost never rewarded.
But now, while being helped by various people, I’m being rewarded for my efforts.
”Otou-sama!”
Boof, I dashed into my father’s arms, hugging him.
My father gently hugged me, and said this.
”No matter what happens, we’ll be on your side.”
”……hm!!”
Once I’d noticed, large tear drops were already falling from my eyes.
Immediately after, they guys from the Royal Capital Workshop also came, and gave me their congratulations.
”Look, that half-convinced lot also get it now. Seems those guys are the [seeing is believing] type, huh.”
While smirking, the workshop chief Duncan points his chin in their direction.
A large crowd of people have gathered around the plate armour and magic shield used as targets, saying things like [Heeeh] and [no way?] while turning the wreckage over.
Brother Graham’s fellow knights seemed to become pale at such might.
[Fufun], Duncan chuckled to himself.
In contrast to the current workshop chief, the former workshop chief was crying.
”The day the magic tools we made receives proper appreciation has come… I’m so proud.”
His body shaking, the former workshop chief cried manly tears.
The old men next to him were also crying.
”Up till now, just how many times have I thought of quitting? But, it’s good I didn’t retire. It’s really good.”
”Me too, even while my back kept hurtinggghaaaah!? M-, my baaaaack?!”
Seems like with this old man, his back is always hurting.
Should I make him a personal waist belt and give it to him as a present?
Thinking such things, a young boy showed up behind me.
”All of this, it’s thanks to the young lady.”
Perhaps embarrassed, Jack turned away as he said that.
”If you’re going to go to the trouble of praising me, why not just say it straight to my face?”
When I teased him, the young boy that was of the same generation as me looked this way and said [shut up] before looking away again.
”At any rate, the reason that we, who were declining, have regained our footing up to here is all thanks to you. I’d like to thank you as the representative of the Royal Capital Workshop. ——Thank you.”
Duncan, also looking embarrassed, thanked me while scratching his cheek.
I turned around to face everyone.
”Nu-uh. I’m the one who should be thanking you. Thanks to everyone, I was now able to create a new magic tool. If it was just me, it would’ve been absolutely impossible. ———Truly, thank you.”
When I thanked them, the delinquent guy said,
”Cut it out. You embarrassing me.”
Slap!
”Ow?!”
The young man Roland slapped him on the back.
”Fufu”
”Haha!”
We all laughed together.
And so, we spent a happy time filled with the sense of accomplishment.
☆
Several days later.
A messenger from the royal family came to visit our mansion, and handed over a letter to my father.
That is, a letter from the king.
As for the letter, it ordered him to come to the castle, and together with this, it also stated that they would allow a demonstration of the presented magic tool, which was something we had requested.
And for that, they surprisingly gave us permission to use the Second Knight Order’s training grounds.
The date and time, one week later in the afternoon.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.[9]
I absolutely cannot fail.
In preparation for that day, I arranged a dedicated case and spare bullets, together with….. if by some chance there comes a time that I need to defend myself, I went ahead with developing a certain thing at a quick pace.
TL Notes:
[1]the author used some strange characters here, and the furigana wasn’t helpful either, so I scoured what meaning I could and left the rest up to context. So this is merely what I think the author wanted to say. ↩
[2]Leticia… this is surely already more than just “a reinforced machtlock”, don’t you think? ↩
[3]I’m guessing it sounds like a silenced gun? I got no actual gun knowledge btw 😛 ↩
[4]This sentence could have meant so many different things… wish the author used a better word choice. ↩
[5]I hope the author meant “instantaneous” instead of “simultaneous”, so I’ll change it to that. Doesn’t make sense otherwise. ↩
[6]”Who’s that Pokemon?”…”It’s Badoof!” ↩
[7]kinda difficult for me to find a fitting word here. It was “technique/skill” with “power/strength” in the furigana. ↩
[8]so it was stroke -> speak -> stroke? What an odd set of events ↩
[9]More like once in three ↩
Well, that was a tiring translation. I had to figure out what was being intended half the time, but I think I got it mostly right.
