Living Normally In An Abnormal World - Chapter 99: Watching a Common Tournament
Chapter 99: Watching a Common Tournament
“Yuuto-kun’s a weakling, trash.”
“Shh!”
“Wapp!”
Spring break was still going on.
As always, Rina visited Yuuto’s house and beat him up. She was making her final adjustments for the upcoming world championship, which was really just a mood booster and a chance to refuel.
Due to the live broadcast, the distance between them had become even closer, and Rina was enjoying Yuuto’s pillow fight. However, Rina kept giving Yuuto black stars, and then she taunted him. Rina received a head-splitting blow to her forehead, but from her reaction, it seemed she didn’t feel any pain at all.
“So, how are you feeling?”
“I can beat anyone!”
“That’s great, good luck!”
“I’ll be expecting you!”
“Okay.”
Yuuto had never actually attended a tournament. All he was told was that he had won, and he received cups and medals as proof of his victory. He had won the previous tournament and the one before that as well.
Nowadays, the tournaments were also live-streamed. However, Yuuto always watched them while listening to Rina’s commentary.
“…”
It was nice to hear about Rina’s achievements from her, but Yuuto wanted to see them for himself. It wasn’t a bad thing to want to see the woman he liked succeed up close.
“Well, I’ll be going now!”
“Have a safe trip.”
Rina returned home with a smile on her face, showing no signs of fatigue, even after several hours of competition. Yuuto stood at the entrance until her back disappeared from view.
(Now, I should get ready too.)
Yuuto also prepared for the next day.
“Wow, this is an incredibly big tournament!”
“…”
“I’m sorry, Dad.”
“Dad?”
“I won’t say anything else.”
“Okay, over here~”
“I see!”
Rina had arrived at the tournament venue with Reina-san, but Satoru and Haruki were also there.
They had simply been invited to the live stream on that day, but when they asked to go watch the game tournament, Satoru begged to come along.
This was the final tournament of the world championship, and normally, you would need to apply for a viewing spot for such a large-scale event. However, Satoru’s status meant he could just walk in. Yuuto was also able to watch as a staff member thanks to Reina, but even without that, he could have just walked in on the day. Yuuto’s nature was such that he wanted people to understand this.
They were isolated from the crowd and sat in a place where they could look down on both the audience and the players.
Rina was also kept a secret from them. It was pointless to make her tense, and Yuuto thought this was a chance to see her in a way he never had before.
“Hey, Dad. Who are you cheering for?”
“Someone named Riichan.”
“The person wearing the skull-shaped eye mask? Dad, you’re so similar to them.”
“Oh, Dad’s not so bad.”
“Let’s talk about that later. Oh, it’s Rina’s turn!”
“Who is that person?”
“Well, in one word, she’s a woman who loves games. If she has time, she plays games all day, every day. But once she decides to enter a tournament, she repeats her research and practice, never neglecting her daily efforts. However, because of that, she tends to neglect her schoolwork and personal life. And she doesn’t hold back at all. Satoru, you should try playing against her sometime, she’ll never give you any special treatment, so you can play seriously.”
“Hmm…”
While explaining to Satoru, Yuuto was also looking at the woman he was describing through binoculars.
Satoru could tell from his happy expression that Yuuto really liked that person.
“Why can you react like that? It’s like a divine technique! Can this woman see into the future?”
She continued to win matches, and her skills were so impressive that they shocked the commentators and spectators. Her gameplay was so refined that it captivated people.
Then, it was the final.
With her incredible observation skills, reaction speed, and precision, she won without any trouble.
As Rina stepped onto the podium, Yuuto gave her a big round of applause and praise. He felt like their eyes met, but that couldn’t be true. With all the voices and applause from the spectators, it must have been erased. But when he looked through the binoculars, he saw that she was looking at him and had frozen.
Yuuto waved at her.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
“I wanted to surprise you. And congratulations on your win, Rina, you’re the number one!”
“Thanks!”
As the awards ceremony ended and they were about to head home, Yuuto and Rina met for the first time that day. Rina was happy, but she was also upset that he hadn’t told her.
“Hi, Yuuto-kun’s girlfriend! I’m Satoru! Nice to meet you!”
“Umm, my name’s Riicchan. And I’m not his girlfriend! We’re not in that kind of relationship yet, you know?”
“…”
“Oh, wait!”
Yuuto noticed that his younger brother’s talking skills had improved significantly recently. Rina looked at him with a red face, but she was definitely smiling quietly.
“Well, my relationship with her is a bit complicated. Please don’t ask too much about it.”
“Aww, well, I understand!”
Rina’s statement that they weren’t in a relationship yet, and her initial affirmation, made her face smoke.
Even though she had just won the championship and showed her best side to her beloved, Rina now felt like she wanted to crawl into a hole.
“See you later, Grauzer! And your girlfriend!”
Rina’s face dropped because of Satoru’s words that didn’t seem to understand the situation.
(I told you not to say that again.)
Yuuto didn’t realize that he had spoken these words out loud. Of course, Rina, who didn’t have any hearing problems, heard them clearly, and her brain capacity was exceeded. Her face exploded.
Yuuto heard a hallucination of an explosion sound and immediately looked at Rina. But he knew that in this state, it was unlikely that she would give him a normal answer.
“What do you want to eat today?”
“Shuki.”
“…”
“Let’s go home.”
“Kay.”
It was really suspicious.
Yuuto decided to hold Rina’s hand to make sure she didn’t fall.
“Hey, Yuuto-kun.”
“What is it?”
“I’m happy right now.”
“I see.”
Yuuto stroked Rina’s head with his free hand.
This continued until Reina called them.
