Lich reborn as a magic school student - 13: Class of Mages
Innate magic, Magical Affinity, Inherent Spells all refer to the same thing: the phenomenon that a person can use magic without needing to learn it. It is believed that the first magical traditions were founded by people with these Innate Magics. They explained how they cast magic to those who did not know and thus founded the first traditions.
An innate magic is not required to learn magic, but increases the chances of it. However, out of every 100 mages, only 2 or 3 would have an innate magic. Even having an innate magic, it would still not guarantee success, as many innate magics are useless, but with having an innate magic learning other traditions is easier, as you can feel how magic is supposed to feel.
In this new world where I have come to, magical traditions are not so well founded and the education of magic is subpar, so the only people who actually learn magic are those with innate magic. While this would point to there being very little mages in this world, that is not necessarily the case, as the awakening of innate magic in people is sometimes caused by changes to the ambient mana. For this world, that is apparent with the ‘Demon World Manifestation’.
Even among geniuses there are bound to be super geniuses, I was one such case. I had not one, not two, but three innate magics. The first of these is called the [Song of Magic]. My chants would flow to the next, each fireball would create another and, in casting, my pace would be unmatched. This one innate magic would already make me unparalleled in combat.
However, that was not all. I possessed [Magic Blood], allowing my body’s blood to absorb the residual mana of the surroundings, and to make matters worse for others. I had [Understanding], granting me an innate comprehension of any magic I encountered.
Innate magics have endless exceptions, but fall into two general categories. First is the system type of innate magics. These appear as a person being able to use a spell without effort or resources. The second is enhancement type innate magics. These somehow change how a person interacts with magic.
For both, you will need to research yourself to figure out the exact scope of your abilities. You cannot understand it without experimenting and pondering heavily. There is no shortcut to it. For spells like [Reincarnation] system type innate magics are not sustained, but enhancement types are. Thus, I still have access to all three of my innate type magics.
But additionally this body has a new system type innate magic, but I have not experimented with it so I have little idea of how it works. I only know that I can summon flames from my fingers. The reason for my thoughts is the sight that I’m currently witnessing. A classroom full of mages, each using their own innate magics as if breathing. This sight I already saw it before but glossed over it as I was not interested, but with new ambitions I look around.
My eyes first hover over to Kaede. She’s conversing with three other people. One of them is floating in the air, a girl with messy brown hair. She seems to have a lively personality. Next, I notice a girl with red hair and freckles next to the other two. I can’t instantly deduce what her magic is, so I look to her left where I see a black-haired girl with a blank expression eating away at an assortment of snacks. No identifiable magic from her either?
Next, my eyes float towards a man in a lab coat wearing a gas mask. Why the gas mask? Does he have poison related magic? He is talking to another dude who’s wearing a monocle and drinking tea, and next to these two very special-looking people is a person I can only describe as being ordinary. He is staring at me. Why? He is shaking. Why?
While looking at the generic dude, a black-haired girl walks past me. She walks towards two other people. One of them is a heavily muscled dude. The other is a really short girl glaring at everything. “Hey have you seen Alexander?” the first girl asks the other two. The dude with the muscles barely held by his shirt responds, “He’s in the hospital. Apparently, he messed up some magic.”
My eyes wander to the group next to them, four girls, each with unique colored hair. The first has hair that is a mix of purples and blues. The second has hair that is purple, and sharp yellow eyes. Third has grey hair and silver eyes, and the final one has orange hair.
There are also four people not in any groups, a dude that somehow looks even more generic than the other, but he feels like he’s acting that way rather than being ordinary. A blonde-haired dude is also sleeping? A black-haired priest reading through scriptures, and the last one is drawing a magic circle in the corner. Now that I look at it, it looks like one of the shaman rituals of the violent lands, but it’s messed up.
Eighteen mages with innate magics I should watch over all of them. With that thought, I turn the death energies of earth into tier three shadows. Each one sneaks into the shadows of a mage. One classmate, the first generic looking person, suddenly gets up and looks down with horror. Ah, magic detection is his innate magic. His friend with the teacup asks “Hey John, what’s wrong?” “Everything!” His voice quivers.
I decide to ignore him and walk towards Kaede. “Good morning.” I say. Her friends look a little baffled at me. One of them whispers to the other, “Wait, is this the first time Kashra has spoken?” but I pay no mind to it only looking at Kaede who responds with “Good morning.” Then I exit out of the situation by walking towards the corner of the classroom.
I look down at the magic circle. It looks like a shaman ritual for pleasant weather, but instead of the idols of hope, she’s using idols of the old gods. “The old gods are too aberrant for such a rite. I would suggest carving some heroes. Good weather rituals work better with idols of hope.” I speak. She looks up, her crimson eyes gaze into mine. A slight smile comes to me. She’s using fear magic without realizing it, but I am the master of such spells.
“Really.” She speaks and takes out a wooden doll from her bag and a carving knife. I sit next to her and ask, “Why are you performing a rite for pleasant weather?” “Something evil is coming. Pleasant weather brings hope to people.” She responds. “Do you dislike evil?” I ask. “Do you not?” She responds with another question. “I can’t say I like it, but all things exist for a reason.” I respond. “You’re weird.” She states. “Can’t say I’m not.” with that statement, I rise and walk towards my desk.

Sorry guys for not posting for the past week and Monday. I had a severe case of writer’s block, and also being sick meant I couldn’t power through it. Hopefully, I can get back on schedule now.
