Let me be a mob! - Chapter 61- Pouting Fiona...?
Early in the morning when the sun has yet to rise in its full glory, a small battalion of youngsters and a total of seven adults looking people could be seen facing each other as one of the seven took the lead and dictated some of the rules all the students need to be aware of.
The one in charge of relaying the rules was a young man in his twenties with Burgundy shade long hair, responsible for teaching Political Affairs to the students and the temporary homeroom professor of the first section in the third year.
“City Mongrove or better known as the Dungeon City is two days away through the forest trail where students would be advancing in the joint carriage with a group of four from the first year occupying the front carriage and four students from the third year would be in the secondary one.”
Since this was the first time that freshmen would be venturing into dungeons, for safety they would be assigned a team of their seniors alongside for both emotional support and safety purposes.
There were things that the first years could learn from the upperclassmen and seeing how a trained warrior works would allow the freshmen to widen their scope and ignite the flame of motivation in them.
For the purpose of getting both of the groups to get to know each other better, dual carriage was assigned as the transportation. The carriage had six small stumps connecting each other with four wheels adjusted respectively. There was no way of walking to and fro between carriages when stationary but having upperclassmen nearby would provide them a sense of security en route.
A pair of Alpha twin-horned horses would be responsible for the mobility so there was no reason to fret about slowing down.
“No teachers would intervene until you all do not reach the Dungeon City within three days. If not, a search team would be sent for investigation but I must warn you, the Agrarian jungle is not somewhere you would like to get lost so keep track of your path and remain along with your team.”
That certainly…was a lie.
Well, it was given that to fortify the base of a future hero it was required for them to let go and venture independently in an uncertain environment but carefreely leaving the students without any proper backup was a little too daring on the faculty’s part.
It was just to let the students know how high the bars have been set and retaining cautiousness during this whole trip is the key factor to remaining alive.
“You may use your skill but to obtain points you have to bring your transportation along.”
Many grumbles and sighs traveled among the students hearing the condition since many of them already had begun to formulate some plans of using magic as a shortcut and obtain the mega prize by arriving first at the venue.
“Be aware students. Not everything you see in the jungle would tend to show its natural appearance and the singularities you might recognize as just your delusion might bite your back once you turn yourself away. Minor or major injuries are not something to fret about in today’s generation, but risking your life to gain cookie points is not something even God would forgive, so be safe out there.”
With those words, the seven professors and instructors responsible for this exploration disappeared from sight. Left were the remaining forty-eight students and six sets of carriages tied with huge carriers.
Soon all the students began to swarm around to form their groups, unlike the third years who already have their separate teams as they made their way to sit in random carriages and wait until all the younglings get done with their discussions.
At a different corner, the group of six stood amongst other freshmen. Jin along with Aiden, Rena, and Silvie stood at one side and Dia along with Fiona stood facing the four.
“Aiden…you guys go ahead. I will come in a second. ” Early in the morning when all the students had yet to arrive, these six already were planning their sitting arrangements when Jin broke all the discussions by offering Aiden, Rena, and Silvie to sit with him. And right now they were just implying with his words due to certain reasons.
Naturally, Dia and Fiona did not know the reason.
Well the prior one had no issue sitting with her other friends she has made in the brief time, Fiona surely looked quite hurt for Jin to choose Silvie over her. Despite she didn’t say anything the look of sorrow and the aura of depression was so intense that the nearby students were feeling sympathetic toward the girl.
“Can I borrow your friend for a bit, your highness?”
Jin asked in a whispering tone with his gaze never leaving Fiona’s profile. The mentioned princess grinned slightly before responding in affirmation.
“Sure, go ahead.” The blond noble went to meet up with her friends who have been looking for Dia all over. Meanwhile, Jin took Fiona’s hand and pulled her away from the other’s view behind the nearby tree.
Thankfully most of them were getting seated in their carriage which left Jin and his companion go unnoticed when they fled from the scene.
Behind the tree, Jin turned to look at Fiona who had her back pressed on the trunk and her head leaning to avoid his gaze. Their hand was still connected or to be precise, Fiona was now holding him in a tight grasp like letting him go was the biggest taboo she could commit.
“Fiona, look at me.”
She didn’t.
With a sigh, Jin utilized his other hand to lift her small pale chin to make her see at him before Jin could say anything further.
“What value do you have for my life?”
“More than anything.” The answer came spontaneously. No hidden malice. No mixed feelings. The words she used to voice her reply were something she felt from her heart.
Jin couldn’t help but smile at the girl who has become such a lovestruck just because he saved her from something Jin himself involuntarily caused.
Well, it was true that he didn’t love her right now but after what happened some days back, he could no longer ignore Fiona just as a mere fleeting girl who comes and goes without influencing Jin at all.
He was now very well aware of her presence and the change in her temperament which generally tends to be e based on how Jin acts around.
Realizing that making up any lie here would hurt Fiona when she gets to know the truth, Jin exposed the reason for choosing his carriage mates.
“My life might be in danger on this trip that is why I chose those three as my companion.”
There was a brief silence that traveled between them after Jin confessed. Fiona’s expression dangerously shifted from shock to caution and then it settled on resignation.
“Am I no good to protect Jin?”
That face…stop! That’s too cute!
Jin inwardly screamed and barely held himself from hugging this cute little thing who was bout to break all his reasoning and carry her to his carriage. The most dangerous weapon someone could utilize against Jin is gap moe and Fiona is the very example of it.
His amusement aside, Jin knew he had to give her an answer but this time he was not going to tell her the complete truth.
“I don’t want you to get hurt Fiona and besides if something really happens we would be on the same path so you can come and help me, right?”
Fiona knew he was not telling something important here. He just averted his gaze and his facial expression also got a little more animated than usual to show how he was forcing himself to hide something crucial under her observative gaze.
But she didn’t pry. As he said, they would be nearby so it goes without saying Fiona would look out for Jin as he has done twice now in the past.
Even though he doesn’t trust her completely to tell her everything, this much development was something Fiona never expected in such a short period which helped the silver-haired maiden to cheer up.
Slowly yet surely they are getting close and this is all that Fiona could ask for…
