Let me be a mob! - Chapter 126- Story behind Fenrir
[Jin’s POV:]
I was terrified.
I was warned by someone who claimed to be my daughter, that in the future, blinded by my powers I might end up hurting someone I wish to protect.
There is a future where Dia has to sacrifice herself to stop me from erasing everything I hold dear. Truth be told, even though I did not have much of a connection with Dia at that time, I felt shocked and slightly terrified.
That’s why I have been thinking about countering what was to come. The Runestone given by that blond girl was something I have been investing my time researching since I couldn’t believe something given to me by a stranger(?). However, now I think that girl was correct.
I…can become a lunatic who can kill those people who are close to me.
In that moment when I overloaded myself with Spiritual Energy, the only thing I could think of was to utilize my newfound strength and demolish anything and everything in my surroundings.
And because of that greed of blood, I ended up nearly killing Fiona. If not for the timely cooperation of Time Spirits, I might have…l-lost…
“Jin.”
“Ah…” I looked towards my left from where the person shook me.
Aiden stood there with concern on his face. I noticed that everyone in the room was looking with similar expressions.
“What’s with you, brat? Isn’t she safe now?” Master Elena nudged me with her finger and her brows elevated. It’s been a while since I met her.
I corrected my expression before assuring them, “I am fine now. It’s just….it would take some time to get over what I did back then.” The exact scene of witnessing a bloodied Fiona who had several ice spikes plunged inside her body, and that smile she flashed once she gazed at me…I just couldn’t forget about it.
And to be honest, I don’t want to either. That memory would keep reminding me how my powers can blind me easily.
“Jin…it was an accident. We all know that you can never hurt Fiona out of your free will.” Dia rested her hand on mine and consoled me. She looked more hurt than me before and her loud wailing was heart-wrenching. But now she seems a lot calmer, thankfully.
Fiona was still inside the room and Silvie was with her along with the healers Alzeith provides. Thankfully she didn’t bring her personal feelings between Fiona’s injuries and my request to help her.
Currently, she was with her Generals—attending a meeting regarding the upcoming war.
“Thanks, Dia.” I smiled at her. Not a fake one, but a genuine smile that was backed by gratitude.
I turned toward Professor Lisa and Master before asking them, “How did you guys cross the realms? Don’t tell me you are now criminals back there?”
The Seven Sages wouldn’t just sit idly and let the residents of Light easily trespass the Veil. The only outcome I could land upon is a confrontation between a Sage and these few people.
Given Professor Lisa and Master were in the group, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that a Sage or two might have been beaten to a pulp so they could arrive in the Demon realm.
“Silvie helped us track a hole in the veil. Thanks to the massive Spiritual energy you were using, it became easy tracking you.”
The brows elevated in admiration. Who knew Silvie could become so fluent with her Special Eyes and could tolerate witnessing that many Spirits without turning ecstatically insane?
“But do tell me, brat, why have you not released Fenrir yet? If you had, then you might not had to go berserk and all back then.” Master crossed her thick arms on her chest and narrowed her eyes on me.
“What is Fenrir? Wait…isn’t that the name of the axes you gave to him?” Rena asked, pacing her eyes between me and her mother.
“I have heard him saying, ‘Come forth, Glepnir’. Are those any different?” Dia tilted her head in confusion. Adorable.
“If I am not wrong then, Glepnir is the restraint that was used to bind Fenrir, mentioned in some sort of mythology?” Professor Lisa spoke in an uncertain voice.
I nodded to that, “Indeed. Glepnir is the outer shell of what those axes are truly capable of. Although those two axes are called ‘Fenrir’ I have yet to actually unbind them.”
Master followed, “Fenrir has a huge ego—to the point where even I couldn’t tame it.” A mutual gasp was shared by Professor Lisa and Rena. It seems they admire Master. Well, who doesn’t?
Regardless, Master continued, “That’s why when I handed that being to Jin, I told him to build a connection with Fenrir through Glepnir before untying the binds.” Turning her focus toward me, she complained, “Given your current strength, I think it would be just pure foolishness to keep it restrained.”
“But Mom, Jin is still not as strong as you, right?” Rena asked, more like she hoped.
I see. She has a mother complex. According to her, no one can be stronger than Master huh? Well, Rena, as much as it hurts to say this, there are many people in the Castle who can stand on equal, or most likely higher ground than Master.
Master scoffed at that before she responded with a shrug, “I don’t know how strong you guys deem me, but truth be told, the ferocity Jin showed back then, I doubt I could have dodged or worse, come out alive from that attack.”
I smiled wryly. Why do you have to keep reminding me, Master?
Rena looked stunned for a moment, with her already big eyes going completely round, before she narrowed them at me.
What? Am I the villain now?
“By the way Jin, why were you fighting that Demon back in the arena when the Succubus Queen is your ally?” Aiden’s question drew everyone’s attention. And on every face, I could see pure curiosity.
I leaned on the wall behind my back and sighed. This wasn’t the circumstances under which I wanted to tell them this, but whatever.
“Actually, there is a ritual which can be only performed by a single person. We were fighting to decide who could be the one to take the role.”
“What is this ritual anyway?” Rena asked.
“It’s called Blood-ritual. A method through which one could enhance someone’s life expectancy.”
“And in return for what?” Aiden asked; a frown marring his face already.
I knew he wouldn’t like it, but I didn’t hesitate to answer,
“In exchange for sacrifices.”
********
“My lady, I have no objection to letting Master Jin take the role.”
“No objection from me, as well.”
“I have always believed in Your Majesty’s decision, so no objection from me as well.”
The three remaining Generals of Alzieth’s court shared their thoughts on Jin taking the role of Blood Ritual.
Previously they were against the decision since they deem Jin not up to the mark to shoulder such a heavy burden. However, now, they believed no one else to be as capable as Jin to fulfill the duty.
Quite quickly their views changed on the matter.
Well, Alzieth wouldn’t say that she was much different. Although she trusted Jin, she inwardly wished for him to lose the battle against Merex so he wouldn’t get involved in the war. However, after witnessing his prowess, she lost her hopes of stopping him.
Alzeith leaned back in her chair with a heavy sigh sleeping through her lips—troubling the heart of the others, in the conference hall.
“Then it’s decided…from our side, Jin would carry the responsibility of Blood Ritual.”
