Chapter 56 – The Truth About Ibuse Reo’s Relationships
Renewing my resolve, I left the student council room with Shiori’s support. I truly can’t thank her enough. She’s far more reliable than someone like me.
“Ah… Good morning.”
As I was walking to the classroom, I happened to bump into Noa, who was walking to school alone, in the hallway. Until now, she would have gone to school with Kaede, but… She said she’d cut ties with him, so it was only natural.
“Good morning… Um, are you okay?”
It must be tough for her. Her childhood friend, who had been by her side since they were little, had attacked his own sister… Moreover, Sakura was also Noa’s childhood friend. What happened yesterday must have hurt Noa many times more than I did.
I was worried, but Noa answered my question as if nothing had happened.
“I’m fine. Actually, I’m relieved to have cut ties with someone like him.”
“I-I see…”
Noa said this with a more dignified face than I’d ever seen, even in the game. With Shiori and Noa, my pathetic worries from earlier started to seem foolish. It was all a complete waste of time.
While I was thinking about this, Noa bowed deeply to me.
“Thank you for your help with Sakura. I really appreciate you talking to President Fujita.”
“I really didn’t do anything. It was all thanks to Mizukami acting when she did.”
“What if I said it was because of Ibuse-kun that I was able to take action?”
“Eh, me?”
“That’s right. You.”
Noa smiled gently as she walked next to me. Even so, I don’t remember doing anything special for Noa. If anything, I’ve received a lot more from her, such as being taught how to do my job.
While we were talking like this, we suddenly arrived in front of the classroom. The two of us entered the classroom, but…
“Wha…?”
The moment we entered the classroom, my eyes met Kaede’s. Then Kaede stood up vigorously and came towards us.
“You… Why are you with Noa…!?”
“That’s——”
“Does it matter to you?”
I was about to answer Kaede’s question, but Noa cut him off before I could. Kaede was completely taken aback and upset.
“…Does it… really… matter…?!?!!”
Kaede had supposedly ended things with Noa, but seeing him react like this made me wonder if he still had feelings for her. If so, Noa could be in danger. Thinking this, I reflexively moved, stood in front of Noa and glared at Kaede.
I didn’t know what kind of past Kaede had, nor could I fathom what led him to commit the acts he did. But at the very least, Kaede had crossed a line that should never be crossed. He’s no longer the protagonist of a game, but merely a criminal.
“…Ah, right! Kinoshita-san!!”
“Eehh?! Y-yes!!”
As if unable to say anything to us, Kaede suddenly turned the conversation to Nanami. Nanami, who had been talking happily with Yoshimoto, replied in a startled voice.
In response to Nanami, Kaede shouted in a voice that reverberated throughout the classroom.
“That guy!! He’s dating Kinoshita-san, but he’s also dating a first-year!!”
“Eh?! Well… That’s…”
Hearing Kaede’s outburst, Nanami turned bright red and looked visibly flustered. But it didn’t seem like it was because of my two-timing…
“Oh man, everyone was just ignoring it…”
“Yeah, I mean, we all kinda knew already…”
“And judging from Nanamin’s reaction, it looks like it’s actually true…”
“What!? Did everyone know already!?”
“You thought they were actually hiding it?”
“Yeah, yeah. Those two were showing off by coming to school together.”
“Aaahhhh!!!”
Nanami was relentlessly teased by the girls in the class and was completely overwhelmed. The other classmates were like “we already knew” and “You didn’t have to say it,” completely ignoring my two-timing that Kaede wanted to tell them the most.
“Wha… why…? Wait, guys! That guy’s two-timing, you know!? He’s cheating!! Shouldn’t you be more…shocked or something!?”
I have to admit, Kaede had a point. It should’ve been a pretty significant revelation, so why was everyone so calm about it?
“Well… I mean, you know?”
“Yeah… It’s Ibuse-kun after all… It’s not like it’s surprising or anything… More like, it’s shocking he even got a girlfriend…”
“Huh?”
In response to Kaede’s question, the two girls who seemed to be relatively close to Kaede looked at each other and answered. Kaede didn’t understand their response and just stood there completely still.
“So, is the first-year girl the one who’s always clinging to Ibuse-kun like a puppy from the track and field club?”
“Oh, it’s definitely her, don’t you think?”
“…So, what do you think, Nanamin? Did you know about this?”
“…I’m… the one who’s been forgiven… and… right now, I’m happy…”
“Ahhh…!!!”
“Huh…? Seriously!? Wow, Kinoshita-san, you’re bold!”
“So you did that, wow! Tell us more!!”
“Ahh… So embarrassing…”
Before we knew it, the classmates had forgotten about Kaede and were getting excited about Nanami (although Yoshimoto, who was next to her, looked like he had been killed by a stray bullet). It seemed like the general attitude of our classmates was something like, “Well, it’s Ibuse, so a little two-timing isn’t surprising,” though it was hard to tell if that was a good thing or not.
…But is this really okay?
“…Strange… How can Ibuse…get away with this…”
Kaede muttered in a daze, but no one heard him. Everyone was already back to their normal daily activities.
Noa and I looked at each other and were wondering what to do about this situation, when the gal, Himezaki, showed up.
“Hey, you two. Got a minute?”
“Y-yeah…”
When Himezaki took us out to the hallway, she asked Noa in a low voice.
“Did you break up with Miyano?”
“…I didn’t just break up with him. I dumped him.”
“Way to go! Noa-chan, you’re so strong!”
Himezaki seemed to have guessed the relationship between Noa and Kaede from their behavior, and was happily poking Noa.
“He’s not even a childhood friend to me anymore. Honestly, I don’t even want to see his face.”
“I see. So Noa-chan dumped him too… In that case, it’s fine…”
Himezaki showed an unusually thoughtful expression at Noa’s dismissive words, and then she made a suggestion to us, saying, “Then~”
“Can I do whatever I want with him?”
“…What do you mean?”
I didn’t really understand what she meant, so I asked her again. Himezaki then began to tell me the details with an evil smile I’d never seen on her face before.
“I’ve been waiting for this, you know? Waiting for him to be completely abandoned by Noa-chan. Now, finally, everything I’ve done up until now will be worth it. And honestly, things are turning out even more interesting than I imagined.”
The more I listened, the more complicated things seemed. I had thought Himezaki was a straightforward gal, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Himezaki then looked me in the eye and asked me.
“Right, Ibuse-kun, don’t you just want to punch him in the face?”
