ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
【Ran Souma】
When the three of us started walking with Yoru in the middle, he grinned with such a happy look on his face. His handsome face broke into a silly expression that looked funny.
“Nii-san. You’re grinning, you know.”
“Yoru. That look on your face…”
If he looked that happy, I wouldn’t be able to hold myself back.
“Oh well, can’t be helped with you, Nii-san.”
“That’s right.”
After exchanging a glance with Tsuki-chan, I clung onto Yoru’s arm.
“Eh?”
“You were thinking ‘flowers in both hands’ or something, weren’t you? It shows all over your face.”
“I told you before—Yoru, your thoughts show too easily on your face.”
Embarrassed and blushing, Yoru looked cute. Tsuki-chan seemed to understand that side of him too, and the two of us laughed together.
“Come on, Nii-san. Let’s go inside the shop.”
“Yoru, let’s go.”
We let go of his arms and each took one of his hands, pulling him along.
Spending time with both Tsuki-chan and Yoru was fun. Tsuki-chan clung to me like a real little sister, so I picked clothes for her seriously, and I even tried to appeal to Yoru in swimsuits. Yoru seemed embarrassed, but his own swimsuit look was too much.
When he came out shirtless on top, it was such a surprise attack that I had a nosebleed. If Tsuki-chan hadn’t hurriedly closed the curtain, it would’ve been a disaster.
“Nii-san, I’m hungry.”
“Me too. Shall we go eat somewhere?”
Since Tsuki-chan guided us, I never felt lost even while spending time as a group of three. The place we entered was a rather upscale-looking teppan restaurant. With only counter seats available, we sat in the order of Tsuki-chan, Yoru, and then me in the center of the restaurant.
“Thank you for keeping me company today.”
“No need to thank me. I had fun too.”
It really had been fun. Time spent with Yoru was always fun.
“Please, let me treat you today.”
“Oh~ Should I let you?”
Yoru had remembered the last time. That made me so happy I couldn’t help wanting to tease him.
“Nii-san~ Just because you wanted to show off how cool you are, are you sure it’s okay to pick a place like this?”
“Of course. Order whatever you like.”
“Yay~ I’m going to drain Nii-san’s wallet dry then.”
“Fufufu, you two really are close.”
Seeing her acting like a child like this, I could see that Tsuki-chan clearly loved Yoru. From her messages, I had thought she seemed more mature. Maybe she only played this role when she was with Yoru.
“No, no, usually we’re not like this.”
I felt like Yoru was looking at me, and it made me embarrassed.
“By the way, it’s already summer vacation, right?”
“Yes. I used to be in the student council, but I finished handing things over to the new student council before break, so I’m taking it easy this year.”
“Ehh, is it okay to say that? You’re in your third year, right? Don’t you have exams?”
“That’s no problem. I’ve already decided on Aoba High, and with my current grades, it won’t be an issue.”
Just as I thought, Tsuki-chan must be a smart girl. Not just smart, but really intelligent, and with a confident personality.
“What about you, Ran-san? What are your plans for summer vacation?”
“I’ll be a bit busy… There’s a training camp for the long-distance relay race, and modeling jobs have filled my schedule.”
“Long-distance relay race?”
“Yes. I run long-distance relay race at university. I’m promising enough to be trusted with a spot as a first-year.”
I wanted Tsuki-chan to know about me, to see me as a real family. I wanted her to accept me as Yoru’s future wife.
“And you Nii-san? What about your summer vacation?”
“Yoru, what have you been doing lately?”
The way he ate meat so happily looked cute.
“Me? I’ve got a training camp for club activities. And if I find some time, I’d like to go out and have some fun.”
“Training camp?”
“Club activities?”
Yoru in a club? I hadn’t heard anything about that. Our messages were mostly me reporting what I found, and Yoru replying. Now that I thought about it, I hadn’t really heard much about Yoru himself.
“I started a cheerleading club at my high school. My clubmates don’t have much stamina, so I’ve been telling them we should build endurance and practice.”
“Cheerleading?”
“Nii-san, is this it?”
Tsuki-chan showed us her phone screen.
“Yeah. This is what our cheering looks like. We cheer people on.”
After checking the address, I immediately looked it up on social media.
“Our dancing and singing still aren’t anywhere near where we want them to be, so this summer we’re planning to level up together.”
There, Yoru was singing and dancing in a rash guard and swimsuit, looking incredibly cool. I felt jealous of the girls being cheered on by Yoru.
“Yoru, you’re really working hard, aren’t you?”
After finishing our meal, we parted ways and headed home. I went into a café alone and waited for time to pass.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“No, it’s fine.”
My meeting partner, Tsuki-chan, seemed a little different in atmosphere than when she had been with Yoru.
“Thank you very much for coming today.”
“No, thank you for inviting me. I had fun.”
I thanked her with the same tone as before.
“Yes… Ran-san, you’re a good person. Ran-san, my brother is… Well, he’s kind of a natural airhead, or rather, a bit defenseless.”
I nodded at Tsuki-chan’s words.
“He has a way of making women happy without realizing it. From now on, many women will fall for my brother. I don’t think my brother will be satisfied with just one person. Even so, can you still love him, Ran-san?”
What Tsuki-chan was saying was something every woman who loved a man would wonder at least once.
I want to keep him all to myself. I want him to love only me.
I asked myself again and again inside. I would surely feel jealous. The thought of him meeting other women would make me sad.
“Even so, I still want Yoru.”
In the space of a single breath, I thought about many things. I didn’t think I could ever meet another man like Yoru again. Maybe decades ago, when there were as many men as women, I could have chosen otherwise.
“Even if Yoru chose another woman, I would wait for him. Besides, I’ll become the kind of woman Yoru chooses.”
I didn’t know if my answer was the one Tsuki-chan wanted. But I had found the answer I could hold in my own heart.
“I understand. Thank you for spending the day with me today. I think I’ve come to understand a little about what kind of person Ran-san is.”
Tsuki-chan bowed politely and smiled. That smile was so beautiful, to the point it left a deep impression on me.
