【Ran Souma】
Modeling and training everyday had made me stronger. But no matter how determined I felt, there was no avoiding the exhaustion and the mental strain that pressed down on me. When I thought my days were too painful, the one thing that supported me was my exchanges with Yoru. Every day I reported little, casual things to Yoru. Even if it was late, Yoru always replied, encouraging me after practice or after work.
“Hm?”
A message arrived from an unknown sender, and I thought it might be a scam site. But when I saw the opening lines, I immediately opened it.
『Please excuse me from sending you a message out of the blue. I am Yoru Kurose’s younger sister, and my name is Tsuki Kurose. As my brother’s family, I noticed an unfamiliar woman’s name registered in his phone, so I wanted to reach out to you. I have no intention of making you uncomfortable. I simply wanted to know what kind of person my brother was seeing.』
After reading the message, I immediately understood how his little sister felt. Having a man in the family, she must have worried whether he was involved with some suspicious person and wanted to protect him.
Of course, we weren’t dating yet, but being mistaken as Yoru’s girlfriend made me feel my body grow a little warm.
『Nice to meet you. I understand how you feel about protecting a male family member. My name is Ran Souma. At present, I am not dating your brother. We are only close friends. I’m a university student, and your brother is my morning running partner.』
I decided to keep my reply concise, so she could understand what kind of person I was.
『Thank you for your reply. So, you’re Ran Souma-san. Then from now on, may I call you Ran-san? Please call me Tsuki. To be straightforward, Ran-san—how do you feel about my brother? And what do you hope for between you and him in the future?』
From her writing, I thought his little sister was an approachable girl. It also showed how much she cared about her brother. So, I decided to put my honest feelings into words.
『Then I’ll call you Tsuki-chan. And since polite speech feels strange between us, let’s keep things casual. About Yoru, your older brother… I like him. I want him to be… My husband someday if possible.』
I had always wished I could date Yoru. If we could promise a future together, how happy that would be. But we hadn’t grown that close yet. This was still only my own fantasy.
『I see. Then I have one request. I’d like to meet you in person to know what kind of person Ran-san is. I’ll take my brother out, and we can pretend we meet by chance. How is it? Would you like to join us? If you accept, please tell me your availability, and I’ll take my brother out accordingly.』
Going out with the Kurose siblings? That was something I would have wished for myself. We went to different schools. Our schedules didn’t align. For someone like me, who had so few chances to see Yoru, this was too good an opportunity to pass up.
『Of course. That’s fine. I’ll let you know my availability right away.』
I immediately contacted my manager to check my schedule. I learned I could take a day off on the very first day of Yoru’s summer vacation.
『My schedule is open on ○月×日. How about then?』“”
My message showed as read. Heart pounding, I waited for Tsuki-chan’s reply.
『My brother agreed. Then, as planned, tomorrow please take care of us.』“”
She messaged me the day before the arranged date! Excited, I picked out what clothes I would wear tomorrow, thought about what kind of girl Tsuki-chan might be, and rejoiced at the thought of seeing Yoru again after so long. I was so thrilled I could barely sleep.

I ended up arriving an hour before the meeting time. I checked the mirror again and again to make sure nothing looked strange. I glanced at the clock countless times, starting to feel anxious about whether they’d really come. That was when people on the street began to stir.
“Hey, hey, did you see?”
“I saw, I saw! They’ve gotta be siblings, right? They look so much alike, and both are gorgeous!”
“I want to take them both home.”
“But no way could we even approach them.”
The ones causing all the chatter among the passersby were approaching me.
“Eh?”
The first voice I heard was Yoru’s. I had noticed him, but I couldn’t bring myself to speak. It had been so long since I last saw him—he was tanned, and his build had grown even stronger than before. I felt my body heat up and couldn’t breathe properly.
“H-hey, Yoru. Long time no see.”
I had planned to greet him naturally, with composure, but ended up stammering.
“Ran-san! What are you doing here?”
“Oh, just something.”
Unable to lie in response to Yoru’s question, I averted my gaze toward Tsuki-chan. She was a beautiful black-haired girl with the same mysterious air as Yoru. The slightly sharp look in her eyes only made it clearer she was destined to be a beauty.
“And you, Yoru? What brings you here today?”
Being struck by Tsuki-chan’s looks actually helped me calm down a bit.
“Me? Today I’m being dragged along as my little sister’s bag carrier.”
They showed off their handholding, as if to flaunt how tight their bond was.
“I see, it’s nice to see siblings so close.”
“Nii-san, who is this person?”
“This is my friend, Ran Souma-san. Ran-san, this is my little sister, Tsuki Kurose.”
“I’m Tsuki. Thank you for always looking after my brother.”
“I’m Ran Souma. Pleased to meet you.”
Even though Tsuki-chan had arranged for us to meet, she played the role of someone who knew nothing at all. The introductions were complete. I couldn’t get in the way of their closeness.
“Well then, I’ll just—”
“Say, Nii-san, is Ran-san a model or something?”
“That’s right. You can tell, huh?”
“Mm. She’s so beautiful. Ran-san, if you don’t mind, would you join us today and help me pick out clothes?”
Although we had agreed beforehand to go out, I thought it was amazing how naturally Tsuki-chan carried the conversation. Yoru looked a little bewildered, but to be fair, if I hadn’t exchanged messages with Tsuki-chan beforehand, I would have been the same.
“H-hey now. Ran-san came here with her own plans. Don’t bother her.”
“No, it’s my day off and I was just wondering what to do. Sure, I’ll join you if you don’t mind.”
I decided to take the lifeline Tsuki-chan had thrown for me.
“Eh, are you sure?”
“Then please do. I was going to rely on Nii-san to carry bags, but I wasn’t sure if he had the sense to pick out women’s clothes.”
“Hey now, that’s harsh. I can choose decent clothes at least.”
“Oh? At least decent clothes, you say? Is that a challenge to me, a professional model?”
“N-no, that’s not what I meant—”
I had started to grow accustomed to the atmosphere between Tsuki-chan and Yoru, enough to crack a light joke.
“In that case, you two pick out clothes for me. I’m looking forward to it.”
Seeing how genuinely delighted Tsuki-chan was, I couldn’t help but feel a little nervous and uneasy.
