ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
【Tae Mori】
The countryside where I had lived was a world without men. My world consisted only of farm work, school, and judo. Even counting the teachers and townsfolk, the gender ratio at school was 0/100.
I hadn’t been dissatisfied. I loved my mother, and the days I spent with friends and rivals were irreplaceable memories for me. But everything changed when I was in high school.
Once we reached that age, some of my friends somehow got their hands on lewd books. They were clippings from very old magazines, and in them appeared a beautiful, black-haired man, photographed nude from the waist up.
I had been too embarrassed to look at the lewd book my friend lent me, so I hid my face with my hands. Even so, I couldn’t stop thinking about the book sitting on my desk. I kept sneaking glances at it and then quickly closing it again for about a month, until at last, I worked up the courage to open it.
Inside, there was so much written about men that I hadn’t known.
『Men lose their hair.』
『Men’s chests don’t swell.』
『Men’s hands are hard and rugged.』
『Between men’s legs there is a 〇〇〇.』
『Men have hair on their shins.』
The more I read, the more I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I even forgot to return the magazine to my friend and kept rereading it for an entire year. I regretted it deeply when, one day, a friend who came to my house to hang out ended up taking it back.
But ever since I first read that magazine, I had started longing to meet a real man. I threw myself into judo as a way of releasing those feelings, and along the way, I became a high school champion. Before graduation, I consulted my teacher about what I wanted to do in the future.
“Sensei! I want to get a job where I can be of use to men!”
“I see. So you’re a woman after all, Tae. Then, listen, Tae. There’s a new line of work called Men’s Guard, where you protect men. You’ll need to pass the civil service exam and get a protector’s license. If you start studying now, you might be able to get a level-2 license. Do you want to give it a try?”
“I’ll do it!”
I had only focused on judo until then, so I wasn’t good at studying, and I failed the civil service exam. But I somehow managed to pass the level-2 protector’s exam, which meant I could work for a security company.
So I applied for an interview at a company in the city where men lived. I received an offer from Valkyrie Security Company, one of the big firms, and it was decided that I would go to the city. My only regret was leaving behind my mother and grandmother to go there.
“Do what you want to do.”
“That’s right, Tae-chan, you should live however you like.”
Their words of encouragement for my dream brought tears to my eyes.
“If you ever manage to find a husband in the city, make sure to bring him back home.”
“That’s right, Tae-chan, you absolutely must bring a man back with you.”
Seeing me off with those words, my mother and grandmother watched as I left the countryside. When I arrived in the city, I got lost at the big station. The crowd of people overwhelmed me, and it took me a long time to reach the company dorm where I was supposed to stay.
And that wasn’t the end of it—once I got there, I had to handle smartphone contracts, city gas, and electricity, asking the manager for help with everything. By the time the move was complete, I was exhausted. When I finally settled down, I grew homesick, so I went out in search of a big park nearby to take a walk.
The city park was overgrown with trees like a forest, and I was delighted to find a place like that even in the city. In the darkness, I saw a figure. Out of rural habit, I thought I’d greet them and approached.
As I got closer, the silhouette became clearer, and I was so shocked that I shouted loudly.
“Ah! A man!!!”
“Hm? Who’s there?”
The man who turned around at my voice was even more handsome and beautiful than the one I had seen in the magazine.
“S-such a… Such a mysterious, dreamy handsome man!”
He was so beautiful that I couldn’t even stop my dialect from slipping out.
“Um… Can I help you with something?”
Oh no, oh no, he was getting wary! I had to calm down.
“M-my name is Tae Mori. This is the first time in my life I’ve seen a man! So, I have a favor to ask!”
What on earth am I saying!!!??? To make a request from a man you’ve just met, how shameless!
“…What is it?”
Asked by the man, I couldn’t stop myself anymore.
“Y-you…”
“Me?”
“Hand! Please let me hold your hand!!!”
I said it. I actually said it. I couldn’t stop myself anymore. I had read it in the magazine—men’s hands were rugged! We did judo too, so ours were rough, but men’s hands were supposed to be even harder, even more rugged!
“…Huh?”
Uwahhh, uwahhh, he was flustered. But I had already said it, so there was no going back.
“I’ve always wanted to hold a man’s hand if I ever met one! I heard that men’s hands are rougher and harder than women’s, and I’ve always wanted to feel it for myself!”
I bowed my head deeply, pouring my whole heart into it.
Please, grant me this wish.
“…It’s fine, I guess.”
The mysterious ikemen stepped closer to me!!! When I saw his hand held out, my excitement shot to the max.
“Waaah, waaah, waaah, really? Thank you so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Mother, Grandma, thank you for sending me off to the city. My dream has come true. Thank you, thank you so much.
I took a deep breath, and with a hesitant motion, reached out my hand. At first, I poked his hand lightly with my finger.
“Waaah, waaah, waaah, it really is hard. And big, too.”
He didn’t pull his hand away! He was really letting me touch it! I gripped his hand tightly, testing its hardness. It really was hard. And more than that…This man felt incredibly strong. In fact, he seemed stronger than anyone I had ever faced in judo.
“So, uh… What’s your impression after touching it for the first time?”
When he asked me that, my head was filled only with thoughts of his hand.
“Well, um. Well, um. It was really good~ I guess this is what people mean when they say they’re happy.”
“I see. Well, I guess that’s enough, then?”
“Yeah. Thank you. Men really are kind~~ Alright, I think I can work hard at my job now.”
I had been homesick after coming to the city. But once I had experienced a man’s kindness, I felt like I could face tomorrow with my head up straight.
“Job?”
“That’s right. I came to the city for work. I’m still not used to how people talk here, so I’ve got to study a bit. But being able to meet a man on the very first day in the city… I guess I’ve got good luck, huh?”
Talking to a man was fun. He was easy to talk to, and a mysterious ikemen at that. This really was happiness.
“So, Mori-san, what brought you to the park?”
“Tomorrow is my first day at work. But I started getting nervous, and I felt homesick for the countryside nature. This park is so wide and nice, y’know.”
I spread my arms wide and took a deep breath. The man, caught up in the mood, did the same.
“Yeah. It smells a little weird, but… Nature really is nice, huh?”
It was the best!
