Is it okay for a loner like me to have a yandere? - Chapter 7- Engagement?
My grandparents live in Kyoto and because it takes more than two hours to travel, they barely come here to visit us. It’s mostly us who go there during summer breaks.
That’s why upon seeing the old man sitting on the couch, I was surprised, “Jiichan?” I called out as I rested the half-drank iced tea on the table
“Oh, Akito. Come here, my child.” He offered the seat beside him.
I took a chair instead, telling him that I was sweaty, before turning toward Mom, “Where is Dad?” He went to meet Grandpa yesterday, guess he brought him along
“Sleeping. Thankfully, today is the weekend.” Dad is a workaholic, so even when tired, he must have gone to work, explaining why she was relieved.
I nodded before requesting her to give me something to drink. The iced tea was too sweet.
Smilingly, she went to the kitchen, and I turned back to Jiichan, “Are you well? How is your knee, now?” I talked to him last week. His knee was barely working, so he stopped going on morning walks.
He massaged his knee and said, “It’s better, but still, the doctor said not to walk around much.”
I narrowed my eyes, “Did he really say that or are you making things up?” He doesn’t like to go for morning walks. If not for Baachan, he might never wake up early in the morning.
“Ah, ahem, let’s not talk about it anymore.” He shifted the topic, coughing into his fist, “Tell me, Akito, do you have any plans today?”
I blinked in confusion, “No…are we going somewhere?” I wasn’t told by my parents. Although I didn’t have any plans, I wanted to finish my homework and read a light novel.
Jiichan said, “I came here because my dear friend Masaru invited me to his house for dinner. I was thinking of taking you along.”
That name got me by surprise, “So you are still close to the Takahashi family?”
He huffed, “Of course, I am. I have saved his life back in the day.”
Oh, yes. I cannot forget the story he told me more than ten times.
Jiichan was a lawyer, one of the best, and back in the day, the patriarch of the Takashi family got framed for sexually assaulting his secretary.
Jiichan saved him from the false blame and after that, they became good friends.
The Takahashi family also lives in Kyoto, so whenever I visited my grandparents, they took me to their family house.
However, now things are different. I haven’t seen them for more than five years. That’s why, I said, “I won’t come. I have things to do.”
I do want to spend time with Jiichan but going there would be awkward. So, I would rather spend my time reading some fluffy romance or something.
Jiichan’s lips parted, “Y-You won’t come…are you abandoning your Jiichan now?”
“…” I was speechless. What’s with this drama?
“It’s not important for me to come. Not like they have invited you to meet me specifically.” I told him, trying to calm him down.
I might be seeing things but I saw Jiichan flinching momentarily.
Hmm?
Soon, Mom arrived and gave me some fresh orange juice, “Go with him, Akito. Masaru-san seemed quite eager to have you there.”
I tilted my head, “How do you know? Did you talk to him?”
*Flinch*
Hmm? Again? Am I seeing things?
“A-Ah, yes. He said he wants to see you. It’s been a long time after all.” She said while stuttering. Something is fishy.
Narrowing my eyes at the old man, I asked, “Something is not right, old man. Tell me what is the true reason you want to bring me there.”
He couldn’t have traveled for so long to just meet Takahashi-san. He is a very lazy old man.
And now, they are insisting me to go along with him…yup, definitely something not right.
“Why don’t you tell him directly?” A familiar voice broke the silence as we all turned to look at my father.
He was wearing yesterday’s clothes and was barely awake with his eyes half closed and hair disheveled. He seemed really tired.
Sitting down beside his father, Dad turned to look at me dead in the eye.
I stiffened.
W-What is it?
A-Am I getting sold or something?
“Akito,” he began and I nervously straightened my back, “…your grandfather made a promise to his old friend a few years ago.”
I nodded, “Uh-huh.”
He heaved a long sigh and glanced at Mom before he finally revealed, “The promise was, when the children of the two families turn eighteen, they would be engaged.”
“…” I felt silent.
My mind turned numb.
All I did for a few seconds was stare at my Dad and hope that he would just laugh and say it was one of his Dad’s jokes.
But he didn’t.
And the way my Mom glanced between us and Jiichan lowered his eyes, I knew it was the truth.
Dad continued, “You are not forced to do accept anything but before taking any decision, I will request you to meet her once.” He said in a soft tone.
My shock receded. If my parents are suggesting it then there must be a reason.
I calmed down slightly and asked in a nervous tone, “…just to be sure…my potential fiancèe is…Takahashi Suzune?”
“Yes.”
“…” I again fell silent.
My childhood bully and someone who hates me with passion.
Why…I must get involved with her again?!
