ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“Festival! Yui wants to go too!”
When I gave Yui a souvenir from the festival, her eyes sparkled and she said she wanted to go to the festival as well.
“You should. There were lots of food stalls and it was really fun.”
“Yeah! I’ll try asking Sanae-chan!”
While munching on a candied apple, Yui quickly opened her messaging app.
“Everyone says they can’t go because they have the certification exam.”
But just as quickly, she looked dejected and wilted. Apparently, there was an external English certification exam starting tomorrow afternoon, and nearly all of Yui’s classmates would be attending that exam.
…Hello?
I couldn’t help but ask why Yui hadn’t signed up for such an important-looking exam.
“I thought it might still be a bit early for me.”
Hmm. Yui seemed like the type who had a poor grasp of her current situation. In other words, she was the same as me. Well, it wasn’t something to joke about, really.
Unlike me, who benefited from male-favoring policies, Yui would soon be exposed to the harsh reality of competitive entrance exams. No, she was already in the thick of it. As her big brother, I figured I should at least give her a heads-up.
“Now that you’re in high school, Yui, you need to keep track of what everyone around you is doing and start preparing for entrance exams yourself.”
“Okay. I’ll be more careful from now on.”
Seeing Yui looking genuinely remorseful and totally deflated, I couldn’t help but soften toward her.
I mean, we’re siblings after all.
“Then how about I guide you around the festival tomorrow?”
“Really?”
“But in return, you need to make sure to prepare yourself properly for the next certification exam.”
“Got it! Yui will do her best!”

“Ehehe. It’s a date with Onii-chan~!”
The next morning. Dressed in a lemon-yellow hoodie and white shorts, Yui was her usual cheerful, energetic self. As for me, I had apparently attracted quite a bit of attention yesterday by showing my face, so today I tried to blend in a little by wearing a cap.
“Looks like it’ll be even more crowded than yesterday. Be extra careful so you don’t get lost.”
“Okay. I’ll hold on tight.”
As she said that, Yui hugged my arm tightly. Yeah. The feeling was definitely different from yesterday. Yui’s growth spurt was still ahead of her!
“Alright, shall we go check out the food stalls?”
“I’ve got so many things I want to eat. Chocolate bananas, takoyaki, and I want some candied apricots too. So let’s share and try lots of different stuff, one by one.”
Just as she said, we loaded up on goodies and started eating in a relatively quiet eat-in space. A late breakfast, I guess. Gotta fuel up first.
“Mmm. This super big surprise takoyaki is definitely a winner.”
The takoyaki, bigger than usual, had a crispy, fragrant outside and a melty, soft inside. The savory flavor of the octopus, enhanced by mayonnaise and sauce, burst in my mouth.
“This is good. Maybe we should buy some for Mom on the way back.”
“Yeah. We need to remember where the stall is.”
Once we were done eating, we planned to try some of the game stalls like shooting, darts, and balloon scooping. I had brought a fairly generous budget with me. Splurging once in a while like this really felt nice, huh?
“Onii-chan, how about that for dessert? Asian-style shaved ice.”
Even though we were still eating, Yui had already locked onto the shaved ice stand near the eat-in area. But I had to admit, it did look good.
“Sounds good. It’s getting hot, so that might be perfect. I’ll go buy it. You stay right here, Yui.”
“Okay!”
As I was walking toward the shaved ice stall, I heard a familiar voice calling my name.
“Pri— I mean, Takeda-kun!”
When I turned around, I saw three familiar faces. They were my classmates, Akizuki and Fukami and in between them stood Uesugi. And with that, I also realized the cap offered no disguise effect at all.
“Morning. The three of you on a cute little date?”
I didn’t really need to ask, but I did anyway.
“Yeah. When we talked about the festival, they said they wanted to come.”
“Isn’t this a date for you too, Takeda-kun?”
“That was yesterday. Today I’m here with my little sister. See?”
I turned around, and sure enough, there was Yui, waving both hands energetically in our direction.
“Oh, you’re right. It’s Yui-chan.”
“Yui-chaaan!”
“So that means Takeda-kun is on a two-day streak too, huh.”
Takeda-kun too? Does that mean someone else has been coming here every day?
“We’re heading to the shrine now. How was it? The legendary Uchide no Kozuchi?”
“Oh, that. It was bigger and heavier than I expected. I don’t think a girl could lift it on her own. There was even a note saying to hold and swing it together with two people.”
“Really? That makes me even more excited. Let’s make our wish together, okay, Kento-kun?”
“Yeah.”
“You swung it yesterday too, right, Kento-kun?”
“I did. It was definitely big, but more than that, the handle was short and the balance was awkward to navigate, so the four of us had a hard time holding it.”
The four of them? Ah, I see. So he came yesterday with other girls. But still…
“Didn’t you take turns swinging it?”
“I suggested that, but we couldn’t settle on the order, so we ended up all holding it together.”
Yikes. That must had been hard.
“I see. But we’ll be fine, right, Ran-chan?”
“Yep. We already decided the order in advance. First, Kento-kun will swing it with Chika, and then he’ll make a wish with me.”
I see. Just like my girlfriends, they’d worked things out ahead of time. Akizuki and Fukami always seemed close, so it made sense that they could coordinate well. Hearing stories like this really made me think—when choosing a marriage partner, the teamwork and compatibility between the girls involved was probably super important too.
Yeah, I knew it… A fun and easygoing harem? That’s not something you can just casually make on a whim..
